FLL airport - Shooting today at 1 pm - 9 wounded

That's true. I take it to mean different cultures have different behaviors that are considered socially acceptable and some may even be in opposition to the majority culture. Racism has nothing to do with it as the differing cultures could contain people of the same race.

I believe it's true that there's a pretty significant cultural clash in progress in this country that has nothing to do with race, religion, or even outside culture.

Is intolerance a more inclusive word?

I look at so many people who say they're furious and I think, "what have you really got to be so angry about?" I mean to the point of irrationality. Can't get into politics/religion so I won't comment further. I also agree this really enters into mental health territory. Not talking about Santiago which is obvious, but the level of fury/hate/anger on those who supposedly are "normal".

To be fair, it would seem that most people on Dis make above average income. Many here are going to Disney World at least once, sometimes multiple times per year. So yes, many of our fellow posters probably don't have a lot to be angry about. But that certainly isn't the majority of the population. If you're working 2 jobs just to make ends meet, and a weekend in the Dells is what you look forward to every year, I could see why someone might be fed up.

Vehicles can be used for mass murder too. Bastille Day in Nice or Christmas Matket in Berlin...both incidents in the last six months (to name a couple) Not sure, if they we're licensed drivers.

Point..where there is a will, there's a way.

The original post simply cited car accidents as being more dangerous than mass shootings. It's apples to oranges. They are called "car accidents" for a reason, they are accidental. Mass shootings is someone waking up one morning and deciding to kill. Completely different elements. By that poster's same logic, heart attacks are also more dangerous than mass shootings.

What would you have them do? Do you know how many whacks show up at police departments every day? If they locked everyone who needs aluminum foil on their heads up there would be no room for actual criminals.

Yeah he turned out to be an actual shooter but short of being psychic, law enforcement can only actually follow real laws.

Aluminum foil crazy is "I just saw 3 UFO's flying over head. Hide the women, save the children, NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW."

Crazy and Dangerous is "ISIS is forcing me to fight for them." Making this type of claim should be treated the same way that phoning in a bomb threat to an airline is treated. In other words, very seriously.

Exactly! You see and read about this very thing all the time. This country is split and I'm not sure how it comes back together. Their is simply to many issues that people have dug their heels in on and decided this is the hill they will die on.
I'm guilty of this myself, I know it, I admit it, and I'm not changing my mind about these issues either. But honestly this is where we are.

People not blending well with other cultures doesn't mean racism. People throw out the word "racism" way too much.

The person I quoted said cultural mixing was a problem. Racism and/or intolerance are fair examples of people not blending well with other cultures.

Sometimes one needs to take a hard look in the mirror. I never, ever advocate for violence or criminal activity.

Problem is everyone thinks it's everyone else that needs to look in the mirror.

I guess I don't view the actions of the shooter much different than a drunk driver who kills someone. Their intentions might be different but the results are the same. I don't view either as accidents and both are preventable.

Seems like the shooter was mentally unstable. Maybe as a society we will start to realize that many of the mentally unstable people need serious help.

I realize that came out different than I intended! Certain people have issues with learning and coping with other cultures....things have never blended as well for some people as they should.

I believe the term is racism and yes, it's a huge problem.

The person I quoted said cultural mixing was a problem. Racism and/or intolerance are fair examples of people not blending well with other cultures.

The OP simply stated that certain people have issues with learning and coping with other cultures. And you defined that as "racism." Please see the quotes above.

That's not racism.

Agree. Too often we just blow it off. Not sure about other places but in Washington State there has been plenty of news stories where the police realize someone is deranged and a danger to themselves and others. All of the mental health facilities have huge waiting lists so they just leave them at the emergency room.

Again, you made no mention of drunk driving or using vehicles to mass murder. You simply said "car accidents." You keep moving the goalposts.

Anyone who is intolerant of another's race, religion, culture, lifestyle needs to look in the mirror. There are tons of lifestyles, religions, cultures I wouldn't want to live but it doesn't mean I get to choose for others. To each his own. Tolerance is the key. Peace.

Not necessarily. I'll throw out an example that women are mistreated in the Middle East and I won't stand for that sort of behavior in the U.S., even if one's religion says it's acceptable. Not in this life or the next.

Agreed, there's too much anger all around in the U.S....I think it's just a lack of proper upbringing, what used to be called the rat race, everyone wants to be rich/famous or at least look like it, reality TV shows making everyone look like it's ok to be loud, angry and upset over every little thing, people who feel entitled, the cultural mixing, lack of moral education in the home, etc.

The OP simply stated that certain people have issues with learning and coping with other cultures. And you defined that as "racism." Please see the quotes above.

You are wrong. The person said "cultural mixing" was a problem. Go back and reread.

Personally, I'm much more concerned with the treatment of women on this side of the pond by many of our own homegrown men. Nothing new here.

Then I assume you sided with the bakery that claimed it was against their religion/beliefs to bake a cake for a same sex wedding.
We're so divided that people are still protesting the election.
Six people died due to their actions protesting it
