Flames anyone?

I only got flamed once and they did apologize after they realized. We were waiting in a line at WDW and the kid behind me (about 5 or 6) kept playing with the back pocket on my shorts. He kept picking and picking at it. I finally asked the mother if there was some reason her son couldn't keep his hands off my a**. The kid didn't even hear me. The mother was at least apologetic. I posted about it on a pet peeves thread and got flamed for saying anything. I was supposed to distact him or chat with him or give him a toy. At least most everyone else agreed I should not just let the kid play with my a**. They did come back and say they shouldn't have flamed me but I shouldn't have said a**.:rolleyes1 If that is the worst that kid ever hears he will be doing good.

Thanks dreamcometrue and "Got Disney" for your answers. I've never been on a cruise, so I could see myself asking the same question, lol!

After reading some people's responses saying that they are more careful with what they post now, I have question...

Have you changed your posting style since being flamed, or do you continue posting the same way and not worry about those who might flame you?

This must really bother you, since you brought it up so many times just in this thread. I didn't think it was the flaming of you, so much as it was that many of us just didn't share your opinion (and some people did). I didn't feel I was flaming you..however, since I had been in the predictament of using food stamps for someone else, I just didn't agree with you (and you didn't agree with me..no biggy). I've seen some real flames on these board..that couldn't be misunderstood at all that they were real flames. Really snotty stuff. This was just people not agreeing with each other, IMO.

Hmmm...I think flaming is in the eye of the one left to smolder. ;) What you may perceive as a difference of opinion, another may feel was a flame. If she felt flamed, it was a flaming to her.

FTR, she was making jokes about it on here. That's pretty much what this thread is about. She wasn't coming on here saying disparaging things about people who did not share her opinion.

No, I didn't change the way I post. I just developed a thicker skin.

I'm usually not one to sugar coat things. If anything, I live more in fear of points than flames!

A couple of people have mentioned the debate boards - may I assume that the reason they no longer exist is that they got too contentious?

Believe it or not, the debate board was not nearly as contentious as some debates on the CB get. We were all pretty much civil to one another over there, even when we didn't agree with them. There were very few flamings or personal attacks.

It was shut down because it was one more board to moderate and it was felt it wasn't adding anything to the site. I miss it, but I can see their perspective on that (admittedly, it was a rather small group, and newbies didn't venture there much to make it more interactive with the rest of the boards).

As to the OP, I have been minorly flamed twice but nothing like some of the flamings I've seen!

I haven't been flamed specifically, but one thread I started last summer got ugly. I work part-time on a school schedule so I was home with my kids. I started a thread about how I had to hand it to SAHMs and it wsa very pleasant for a long time and I got some good advice. Then someone started the mommy wars and it went down fast.

I don't think I've ever been DIS-flamed. However, I've been flamed on another message board years ago on an abortion debate thread. I tend to stay FAR AWAY from those threads now. :teeth:

I think I posted something on the Theme Park board once, as a response to a legitimate question (I think it was something about hair and makeup while in the parks), and it came out that I'm into the whole "goth" thing. Well...that set off a slew of posts making fun of goths and how stupid they look, especially "moping around Disney World." Hey, I've never moped while at Disney!

I've had some that I don't even remember now.

Just today, I read a post from someone asking if I couldn't tell my kids "no" so I lie instead. Umm, yeah that's it.

I wish my kids could answer that. Sometimes, I get tired of being the mean one to say "no" so I have to get creative.:teeth:

I have learned from the CB, that there are several perfect people in the world and apparently, I'm not one of them.:)

I once posted about a librarian being mean to my then 3 year old son, and you woulda thunk I was talking about some of the disers mothers. Geesh, like my 3 year old deserved how she treated him.

Me too. They finally caught up with me yesterday also when not one but THREE of the threads I was posting on (two of which I started) went *poof*.

I agree, if anything the ones being flamed were the ones who said that people should not be so quick to judge others just because they are using a food stamps card. But hey if this a thread to vindicate oneself and make fun of past flamings then maybe you and I should share some :rotfl: :rotfl: about being flamed for daring to suggest that buying junk food on foodstamps was not welfare fraud.

Awwww. I think goths at Disney are so cute.

Don't tell the goths that, though. Ya'll probably wouldn't like it coming from a middle aged mother, would you? ;)

I think most of the goths I know would appreciate it! They're some of the nicest people I've ever met - they'd all smile and talk to you. I honestly don't know any stereotypical "mopey" goths - they all say they're just being true to themselves and are very happy, despite the looks and comments they get from others.

And we're not above wearing Mickey ears. As long as they're black! :thumbsup2

I was flamed my very first post on the DIS. It was a couple years ago. DH & I had just returned from a WDW onsite hotel and had some really serious issues involving the room (and previous guests' urine-soaked, still-wet sheets and mattresses that hadn't been changed -- among a few other things).

I posted on the Resorts board under that hotel's thread. There were thousands of posts, with mine right there in the middle, but I was trashed and called all sorts of names. I'm a Floridian, go to WDW anywhere from six to 20 times a year, have done so since it opened, but because that was my first and only post on the DIS, everyone thought I was a liar and a troll. Believe it or not, there are many, many regular WDW visitors who've never heard of the DIS. My mother goes to WDW twice as much as me, and she'd never heard of The DIS until I mentioned it to her a few months ago.

Live and learn, you know? I didn't return to the DIS for a couple years, and I learned not to post anything negative. Here it's not like most other message boards where you really only gripe

My only flame that I remember was this Halloween. I had posted that I had lots of teens coming to my house without costumes, and just expect me to hand them candy.

Many people were of the opinion that anyone who comes to your house on Halloween deserves candy and I was a cheapskate for not handing it out.

They've got a right to their opinion, but I still won't let my teenagers trick or treat this year.

Probably the worst flames I've gotten have been over my views on gays and gay marriage. I've been called ignorant, idiot, etc. just because my opinion differed from theirs. :confused3

Minor flames from someone upset that I occasionally vented about my work, or one thread I started about a couple taking up a large (8 seats) table in a restaurant. I thought the couple should choose a smaller table, but many gave me grief for that.

There are probably others, since I've been hanging around a few years, but I'm developing a thicker skin and really don't give a hoot so much anymore. ;)

But you came up with one of the classiest apologies I've ever seen after that. I was impressed! :thumbsup2
