Flames anyone?

My only flame that I remember was this Halloween. I had posted that I had lots of teens coming to my house without costumes, and just expect me to hand them candy.

I buy cheap yicky candy that no one else would eat to give them - teenagers in my neighbourhood just might "retaliate" with a TP'ing if they walk away empty-handed! I save the good stuff for the little kids!

Even if I ever do get seriously flamed, I don't think I'd change my "style." I always think before I send my reply, & if the flame comes from a misunderstanding about what I've posted (as has happened), I try to explain that they misunderstood. So far, it works.

I was flamed my very first post on the DIS. It was a couple years ago. DH & I had just returned from a WDW onsite hotel and had some really serious issues involving the room (and previous guests' urine-soaked, still-wet sheets and mattresses that hadn't been changed -- among a few other things).

I posted on the Resorts board under that hotel's thread. There were thousands of posts, with mine right there in the middle, but I was trashed and called all sorts of names. I'm a Floridian, go to WDW anywhere from six to 20 times a year, have done so since it opened, but because that was my first and only post on the DIS, everyone thought I was a liar and a troll. Believe it or not, there are many, many regular WDW visitors who've never heard of the DIS. My mother goes to WDW twice as much as me, and she'd never heard of The DIS until I mentioned it to her a few months ago.

Live and learn, you know? I didn't return to the DIS for a couple years, and I learned not to post anything negative. Here it's not like most other message boards where you really only gripe

I see that happen all the time. Some people just don't believe that there can be anything wrong with a Disney hotel. And if it's a poster's first post? Forget about it! I've been lucky, I've never had a bad experience at a Disney hotel, but I'm not surprised to read that they happen.

It's funny, but on our last trip we had something wrong with our room and we weren't totally satisfied about the way they handled it (basically, they did finally take care of it, but they were so slow in responding that we lost a few hours trying to deal with it). One of the first things I thought while it was happening was, "Gee, I'm sure not going to share this with the DISboards!" I knew it would end up that I was lying or exaggerating or that I expected too much.

Yeah. I expect that a room that costs over $300 a night isn't going to smell like cat pee and if it does, it'll be taken care of post haste.

That brings another random thought to my overactive brain. I've read quite a few dining reviews where people complained about poor service in a high-end Disney restaurant, wheras others defend it to the death. Other posters complain that people come in to a high-end restaurant completely ignoring the dress code - could the dress code violators be the ones getting poor service?? Just something that popped into my head - sorry, not really about flaming. I'll go find a random thoughts thread. :rolleyes1 :upsidedow

Exactly! And you did what you should have done: tried to get them to fix the problem when you were still there. Because that is the one problem I do have with some of the posts. They wait until they go home to complain. What good will that do? But you're right, it's not worth sharing here. And since they couldn't call you a troll, they would accuse you of wanting something for free--even if you didn't say that!

So, has anyone classified the various levels of flaming? If the worst would require flame retardant bloomers, my first would be more like sitting in a parked car on a hot day without the windows cracked. Apparently there are people in the world, other than on TV, who call their sons "Son." I stood corrected.

There was also an attempted flaming when I dared to ask who had the highest number of posts without a tag. The first poster wondered what I was trying to prove. My response was that I wasn't trying to prove anything, I was just curious.

Flamee here.

I was asking on a post about whether people bake in the winter to keep the house warm and if it was better for your gas bill than running the furnace. NOT that I would keep my oven on all day just for this purpose. Someone wrote that they didn't think I would be around much longer (meaning I would die!!) if used this method as my heat.

Duh!! I'll just leave it at that. Duh!!

my first flame was from MushyMushy when she was Marseeya:rotfl: I called one of the teenage girls that hangs all over my son a "skank" and Mushy got mad at me:lmao: Do you remember that, Mush?:rotfl2: I think we kissed and made up that same night.:)

I was reading a thread just now and it went "poof" so I instantly thought about this thread!!! I haven't been flamed too bad, yet!!!!

Thank you for the great laugh.:lmao: :lmao:

I got flamed when I first joined and it went on forever. Any thread I posted on became another round of "lets gang up on Irish". I considered not posting here on this thread because it has been over for quite awhile now (a truce of was garnered thru pm's) and didn't want it to start up again but since others have been brave enough to post about their flamings I will tell of mine.

It was about a year ago and I had posted how my ex has custody of my 2 oldest and I was trying to get him to let me take them to WDW--I got reamed on that thread and another I had posted that was similar and made fun of because I was going to be camping at Fort Wilderness and using an air conditioner-(a year later and people still pm me asking how they can do the same thing and that they are glad I posted about it because it is something that will work for them)

I received many nasty, nasty pms in regards to those threads but I received many wonderful pms also and it is because of the good pms that I stayed.

To be on the DIS is to be EVENTUALLY flaaaaamed....

If not you're just not posting enough!!:lmao:

Flames have been AIMED at me more times than I can imagine since 1998... most of which when I was a moderator, a job I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy btw... you're treated like target practive and you work your natural butt off!

That explains it! I'm not posting enough! I don't think I've been flamed here yet but I try to avoid things that I know can cause problems. Then again, I do live under a rock & might have been flamed but wasn't paying attention. :rotfl:

Although I don't envy you having done moderator. I'm a community leader on another board, I could have applied for moderator but thought they had lost their minds with that suggestion. CL's pass the buck when it gets too hot to the moderators. I HAVE gotten flamed on that board before, no way did I want to take the heat with the buck being passed on that one.

I think my biggest flame came from a thread regarding taking newborns and infants to WDW.....the posters also acted like you can't come out of your house most months of the year if you live in FL due to the heat, etc.

Also, celebrating your (or family member's) birthday at WDW when it isn't the ACTUAL day.

OK, I guess eventually I might be flamed for something like that. I probably shouldn't mention that I got out of the hospital with our 4th on Saturday and had him at his big sister's gymnastics meet on Sunday. :lmao: I did get people asking me if it was OK with my doctor to do that. Umm...I didn't ask & would have ignored them anyway since he didn't have any extra problems to be cautious about.

As for the birthday, I plan on celebrating my 50th there with an actual event party but it won't be ON my birthday. I wouldn't want to make people have to pull their kids out of school, so it will probably be in the summertime. My birthday is May.

Oh well...at that point they can't say anything because I plan on paying the big bucks to have a private party (and winning the lotto would help a great deal toward that!). :goodvibes

OMG!   I guess it was too much to hope that you'd forgotten it was me? Can you say PMS???

But I love ya now.

My flames on the DIS:
- Someone told me I was going to be the worst mother ever known in the universe, and that I didn't even deserve to have children, because on some "WWYD" thread, I said I wasn't going to take my kids to Disney until they were of an age they could walk, etc. I was depriving my future kids of all joys in life. Yeah, I went to Disney for the first time when I was 19, I guess that's why I turned completely wrong and shouldn't have kids  :rotfl:

- I got flamed on a thread about things that had shocked us while being at Disney. I replied that I had been "shocked" at DLP when a mother was BFing her child just like that, in the middle of the park. Although here in Europe, we don't have problems with nudity on television and on beaches, THAT is something that you just don't do. Man, did I get flamed!

- On a thread about "prayer pillows" or something like that. I said that religion was about believing and make-believing (people believed those pillows were Jesus or something like that). I got flamed, when I tried to explain myself (because I was afraid I had worded it wrong), I got flamed even more.

On another Disney message board: I got "slapped" by the mods because of things someone else said. He was in the clique, I wasn't, so I was the bad huy. I don't go on that site anymore, I don't like those hypocrites anymore. It's not because they can go every week to DL and know all the others from the board IRL, that I should be treated different than them.

During a rather long time, I was active on a message board from a dating site. On the boards, there were the eternal same discussions:
- How it doesn't matter what you look like, it's the inside that counts. (if you looked at the pics of those people, they were all as ugly as possible. Sorry, but it was like that)
- How that it doesn't matter that they didn't finish high school, and that they should be able to get a job as managing director because college degrees were just useless. (no they are not)
- How it shouldn't matter when they met someone that they have kids. Well, I can understand that one doesn't want to start a relationship with someone who is 25 yo and has 3 kids from 3 different fathers.

Everyone was of course always agreeing (you know, like here on the Dis, everyone is the same perfect parent with the same very intelligent kids, yada yada yada), and I loved to express my own opinion. Sorry, but whining about the same BS over and over again won't change a thing.

I'm feeling feisty today, maybe I should start a thread and ask if it's ok to not pay admission to WDW for my 7 year old since she's small for her age and could get away with being 3!

Ooh! Make sure you add that you don't want to pay admission for your DD because you need the money to rent a stroller for her. That one will get hot, believe me.

OMG, I just saw this thread on the Budget Board. I had to come back and check your user name. I thought for sure you started this:

:lmao:

BethR already issued a warning, otherwise that OP would definitely be eligible to post on this thread by the end of the day.
