Flames anyone?

Tell me about a flaming you received on the DIS.

My first (and worst) flaming was when I--in my newbie naiveté--asked for advice on whether I should pull DS out of school for a cruise. LOL! That was a fun thread. Now, whenever I see someone post a school vs. vacation thread, I wince in anticipation of their impending doom.

So, why did you get flamed? Pool hopping? Breastfeeding your 5-year-old? Cramming 7 people in your 4-person hotel room? Unusual attachment to a stuffed animal?

Do tell.

No flaming yet but I am a newbie here. I have been flamed before though- good thing I always have on flame retardant undies.


And FWIW, I have taken my kids out of school for vacations!

I've been around message boards for a while, so I tend to lurk while I'm still learning the rules at a new place. Therefore, I know what the major hot topics are. Like many people, I sometimes read threads and have opinions that I know that I'd get flamed for, so I keep them to myself. Unless I'm feeling really reckless, I'm usually not in the mood for a whole group of people to attack me.

I haven't really gotten flamed for anything, I don't think. I have been around message boards long enough to not start threads that I know will end up in a debate.

btw, I am pulling my kids out of school for our cruise! First time EVER! And you know, I was one of those parents that said "I would never EVER take my kids out to go on vacation. If we can't go during school break, we won't go". Well, there you have it...never say never!

Oh, I think I'm gonna like this thread!!

A few months after joining the Dis, I started a thread because my mom's neighbour was getting married. She was going to charge the guests for dinner at the reception.

Well, that turned into a 200+ thread, with many people saying that the OP (me) was making up this ridiculous story to get a rise out of people
I tried posting that real life is much more facinating than fiction but it didn't work and I had to abandon the thread altogether.

I started a thread about food stamps and how a lady who was using them in front of me was abusing them . That was the jest of it .
The thread turned really ugly and it was on the front page of the DIS for days LOL
I was fine after the toasting of my tush though

I'd rather not revisit the only real flaming I got (I've been made fun of a couple of times - about a post here, but the talk was on another board), but it was deserved because I "spoke" before I thought.

I've been flamed lots of times.

I think my favorite one though, was the thread where I posted about how I hadn't been able to get candy for the neighborhood kids for Halloween. Instead, I stopped in a park and picked up a bunch of egg-sized rocks, which I gave out instead.

I thought it was funny (as did several others) but my oh my. There were enough flames for a 4 alarm fire.

Numerous times, but the one that stands out the most is the time I started a therad about a person I was interviewing who showed up in a bright pink, skin tight business suit, with a bright pink bow in her hair. People were furious that I judged this woman based on how she was dressed (when in reality I was not the only one, she was applying for an ultra conservative accounting job and the accounting director took one look at her and said no way). That said, I probably should not have dished about it on the DIS. Learned my lesson and now keep my mouth shut about such things on the DIS. I hate the idea of hurting people's feelings, its just not in my nature to do so, and I guess I probably hurt some people's feelings that day. It wasn't my intention, but I learned my lesson for future DIS posting.

What is flaming exactly. I see it written all the time "don't flame me" I not sure in that context, what it means. Do not disagree with me?

I was thinking the same thing. You won't find my school vs. vacation thread, though. The flames got so hot it went *poof*.
