Flames anyone?

Since we all seem to be pretty open-minded people here, I'm going to ask a question I've asked on more controversial threads (that no one would answer BTW).

If certain topics offend you, why would you even read them??

COVERING MY REAR NOTE: By "you" I do not mean YOU personally (you know who you are), just the "you" as in the same vein as the ubiquitous "they"

I usually get flamed for the same things.
1. I refuse to hate gay people just because they're gay.
2. I don't take kindly to those who answer questions with questions.

Oh my tushie got toasted about piercing my DDs ears....not just the piercing but because I did it after she cut off ALL of her hair. (I mean basic training - ALL of her hair)

Apparently I was "rewarding" her "terrible behaviour." My take was that she had no idea that she was doing anything wrong and she was REALLY upset when I picked her up to look in the mirror (she was 4 at the time) and that being bald was really more "punishment" than she deserved. So - a little jewelry so that she'd still look a little female.....

wow - I'm still shaking my head over that one.

LOL, when Day after Tomorrow movie came out I admitted I took Remy with me to see it..you would not believe how many people flamed me for daring to take a child to see such a "scary" movie LOL. They acted like I took her to see Saw or something..btw I haven't even seen Saw so don't think dd has either LOL.

Ooo, and there were so many times I got into an argument on the old debate board which I admit I miss LOL.

This must really bother you, since you brought it up so many times just in this thread. I didn't think it was the flaming of you, so much as it was that many of us just didn't share your opinion (and some people did). I didn't feel I was flaming you..however, since I had been in the predictament of using food stamps for someone else, I just didn't agree with you (and you didn't agree with me..no biggy). I've seen some real flames on these board..that couldn't be misunderstood at all that they were real flames. Really snotty stuff. This was just people not agreeing with each other, IMO.

A couple of people have mentioned the debate boards - may I assume that the reason they no longer exist is that they got too contentious?

Because really, a few of the threads I've seen (& participated in) SHOULD have their own forum (ie - political).

I have wondered about that too. I open threads and think "boy is this stupid" but I don't say that. I just shake my head and back out.

This must really bother you, since you brought it up so many times just in this thread. It was brought up so many times in this thread because she and a few other people were talking back and forth about it and joking about it...as have other people here regarding their own situations. Let's not get the "argument" back up, this thread was for just laughing and joking about perceived flames.

My worst one to date, one that even went as far as carrying over to another board....

I dared to question doctors and drug companies by admitting I wonder if vaccines may have contributed to the extent of my daughters autism. Apparently, I am so shamelessly ignorant and a hysterical martyr to boot!

Though, I'll admit, I did let some posters get under my skin, as I saw some things written as needlessly poking developmetally disabled kids, though they may not have been meant that way.

you really shouldn't bring an iron onto a cruise ship. It could be left plugged in, and knocked over somehow and cause a fire! Which would NOT be a good thing in the middle of the Atlantic! They do have irons on the ships in the laundry room from what I understand!

I hear they don't really want you to leave anything plugged in (camera, laptop, ipod, etc.) if you're not in the cabin!

Let's see I have had a few...

There was the time I kind of lol'ed a childless Diser for saying something snotty to another Diser(a mom to a young child, whom she didn't let watch that "Sweet Sixteen" show on MTV)...I said something to the effect of never say never when you don't have kids because it always seems to come back to bite you... Well she let me have it and then commented on how I was stupid because my son was conceived before we got married and by accident...lol whatever...

I was flamed on another board and accused of making up my post Katrina status.

People were very kind and generous to me after Katrina, and this was thrown in my face by a Diser after I disagreed with them on a topic.

Can't think of any more, but I am more cautious as to what I post lately...

I remember that thread since I am on the cruise boards all the time! It was an innocent question and what people forget is that's what this board is for...for people to ask questions. What may be a stupid question to some is not stupid at all for first time cruisers (like me!)

I only recall two times. But it was enough. The first one I was brandy-spanky-new on the boards (six yrs ago) and ready to take my first WDW-Cruise combo trip. I "FOOLISHLY" asked if it would be ok to take my very mature, only child (who was 14 at the time) to dinner with us at Palo's. Man oh Man...did I get flamed on that one. Kind of freaked me out, you know, just the THOUGHT of doing such a thing was going to RUIN the entire cruise for everyone else. That was a tough lesson learned. The second time I responded to a thread questioning the real value and validity of a college education for todays youth. It was late at night, I had had a couple glasses of wine and I responded with a "you must be kidding, right? Not that college is for ALL kids mind you, but to question if it is worth it?" Well the next thing I know, the poster and his/her friends are quoting all my posts, pointing out teeny grammar mistakes and whatnot, like I am a complete idiot. The debate boards had just been shut down and I think it was someone just looking for mischeif. Anyway, I try to steer clear of controversial topics, but sometimes it is hard.

I remember that thread since I am on the cruise boards all the time! It was an innocent question and what people forget is that's what this board is for...for people to ask questions. What may be a stupid question to some is not stupid at all for first time cruisers (like me!)

made me just want to tell the ones that were having a heart attach that I was going to bring one anyway no matter what they said..just to get them more crazy...even though I hade decided not to since my question was answered in the first few posts....there were like 10 pages of posters that could not let it go and kept going and going....guess they woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day....

I believe there were some people that said they have been on x amount of cruises and have *always* brought their iron and will continue to do so, no matter what anyone has to say! Not sure if that was on your thread or another one just like it. They pop up every now and then
