Five in a 1BR

I know most of the DVC resorts only allow 4 people in a 1BR, but I think a few allow 5. My grandson is graduating in June 2020, and he and four friends want to celebrate at Disney! We own at BWV, SSR, and VWL.

My son graduates in 2020 as well. We are thinking of booking a celebration trip for him and his friends at BWV too! He has some other trip ideas he's considering though. So we will see.

You are allowed 5 in a 1 bedroom at BWV. They will only provide bedding for 4. We just bring an aerobed. You still get all 5 magic bands.

OKW, AKV (except value rooms), and BLT sleep 5 in a 1 bedroom--king bed, queen sleeper sofa, and twin sleeper chair. AKV Kidani and BLT have 2 full bathrooms in the 1 bedroom. VGF also sleeps 5, but the 5th bed is the small twin that pulls out from under the TV...not optimal for teen boys!

And all the one bedrooms (except perhaps the VAKL value rooms) will allow you to sleep five, but they don't provide bedding for a fifth. An air mattress fits easily and young people who are graduating can usually tolerate an air mattress - or even just a sleeping bag on the floor). So if they want to be at BWV, someone just has to camp on the floor.

You need to bring a bed and the bedding for the bed. Plus purchase a towel pack or bring a towel from home to get a towel for the fifth person. All three of the resorts you own only supply beds and towels for four.

Actually if you ask for bedding, the front desk will bring up an air matress with bedding for a fifth person. This isn’t commonly known knowledge yet. We just found out a couple weeks ago on a DVC tour and our guide told us they’re trying to make more 1BRs sleep 5.

The guide either had no idea what s/he was talking about or deliberately lied.

That’s nice.

I didn't know that. We leave Friday, and I may rethink packing the air mattress.

Then why is it posted on the DVC website that no bedding will be provided for the fifth person? Thst guide is a typical guide. All they know is selling the product, not the oroduct.

Ok now I'm wondering. I think I'll still pack my air mattress, but maybe they changed the policy recently.

I'd pack it. Even if the front desk brings one up, my guess is the one you pack will get used anyway. All of the teen boys I know would very much rather NOT share a bed with one of their friends - especially anything smaller than a king. the ones I know would sleep on the floor to avoid it, LOL.

The policy is that DVC doesn't provide bed or bedding. The guide wants you to buy.

I wouldn't NOT bring an air mattress if one were needed. Imagine the fun if they looked at you like you had 4 heads when you asked for one at the desk and you didn't have a backup?

I think AKV Value and CCV are the only 2 that do not allow 5 in a 1 bedroom.

To confirm what @LittleFishy101 was told, I was at BCV a couple of months ago and there was an air mattress sitting out in the hall as a room was being cleaned. I chatted with a CM about it and they confirmed it's "as part of Membership Magic [not available to resale?], there is no longer a charge." It's first come, first served. This was specific to the 1BRs with only 4 sleeping surfaces but allows for 5 guests. Not available at VGF because of the trundle bed. No charge. Change was made in 2017.

Can you imagine *that* conversation?
- I’ve heard that I can get an air mattress for the 5th person..?
- Absolutely... oh... no... sorry... you purchased resale, no air matress for you.
-........
- Yes, I understand you pay hundreds/thousands in yearly dues, but the right to sleep comfortably on the floor is reserved for retail only.

You could always get a studio to sleep 5, or a 2 BR and bring a friend or 3. Or just get a 1 BR that has beds for 5 to start with.

Teenage/early 20s boys don’t need a kitchen or washing machine. They’ll never do laundry, and while they eat a ton, they probably won’t bother cooking or buying enough groceries for a full refrigerator. I’d just get them a studio that sleeps 5. Or 2 studios for for same points as a one bedroom (if they can’t share a bed)

Teenage boys in HS or College will not fit on the Murphy bed.

I respectfully disagree. I think it’s not ideal, but my nephew who is 20 and 6 feet sleeps in it. My mother (granted she is only 5 foot 6) slept it in. I mean, When I was that age we’d crowd like 8 in a hotel room and sleep 3 to a bed and on the floor. (Granted that was probably against hotel policy).

Just giving the OP some options. She technically could get 5 in a studio.
