* Whatever movie you're watching
* Whatever game you're playing

Seems it used to be a status symbol to use your phone in public as a way of bragging about how trendy you were but now that virtually everyone has one..............ummmm not so much............LOL. I often wonder what people did 30 yrs ago before we had cell phones and somehow managed to live their lives, go shopping or out in public and not have to constantly be on their phone. My life still doesn't revolve around the use of my cell phone, but sure see a lot of people out in public who constantly have their nose in theirs. What all is so urgent/important to constantly be looking at I have NO idea !!!

The number of people I see having video calls in public is shocking to me. I had a layover at O'Hare on my way to MCO a couple weeks ago, probably 20% of the people waiting at the gate area were having video calls at full volume including some discussions I'd be embarrassed to be having in private, let alone public.

Have you noticed too that it's just as bad when it's super early morning flights? Who are all these people chatting on the phone at 5:30 AM???? I can't think of anyone other than my Dad who might be up for a chat at 5:30 AM, yet the airport is always full of them.

LOL, often wonder the same thing. Who are they calling at that hour? If I was at home, I would still be sleeping @ 5:30 am.

Airports are by their very nature filled with people from other places in other time zones.

I was *that person* when flying home this summer. I was in the lounge before my flight and streaming something on my iPad. I did have my headphones in my ears, but, apparently, didn’t have the other end plugged properly into the iPad. And it took a bit for me to notice and then figure out why I was having so much trouble hearing the show.

I did apologise profusely to those sitting near me, but I felt very bad about it.

I prefer to hear both sides of the conversation, instead of one. One side is definitely more annoying.

I can't forget the time I was waiting for my son at Super Cuts and this woman was having a loud conversation on a speakerphone. At least I got to hear both sides for added entertainment. Apparently Diane's kitchen contractor was such a flake! He never showed up on time, the job was way behind schedule and she was tired of buying take-out every night. On top of that, Diane's husband Gary's gout was acting up! He could barely get to work and back so, of course, he wasn't helping out around the house. He didn't have the energy to get involved in the kitchen project. It was all on her! Poor Diane! Poor Gary! It was all quite tragic.

Yup. I was at Charlotte airport when I wrote that this morning (but have seen it elsewhere also).

I seldom use my cell phone in public. I likely would be guilty of being loud if I did, because I am told by people in the room with me when I am on the phone that I am loud. And I am told by people on the other end of the phone that I am one of the few people whose voice mails they can understand because I speak slowly and my voice "projects".

I'm not referring to loud talkers. Heck, I am one. Its the folks who think everyone else wants to hear their game/video. Actually, they don't think of others... thats the problem.

Seems to me sound quality on cell phones is generally not as clear/good as a house phone so there is a natural tendency to speak louder. There is also the issue of background noise when trying to use a cell phone in a public place. It tends to be the self-absorbed people who don't grasp others are NOT interested in their apparently fascinating discussion about trivial topics. Much like if I am out to dinner with friends, I leave my phone in the car. I find it rude when someone has their nose stuck in their phone when eating out with others. I really doubt that all of the people I see in airports on phones at early hours have friends/relatives in international locations.

No question. And voip phones are just as bad as cell phones.
