First Look inside "new" Space Mountain

Personally, I don't care if it's a computer game or just neat stuff to look at (like in EE). I like having interesting lines. There's plenty enough time to talk to the people I'm with - if you'd rather talk, you don't have to play the games or look around. Or hey, sit it out all together. Standing in line at R'n'R in the outside queue - with nothing to do and nothing to look at - is torture for this ADD girl. And I wouldn't mind so much if there weren't so many bored, whiny kids (and adults) around. Not to mention rough-housing teens. And too many adults have an idea of "talk" as being picking at each other. I say "Yay" for distractions and entertainment.

If you think about it, if you're very lucky, you might spend 45 minutes to 1 hour TOTAL physically on rides during the day. And if you're persistant, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 hours watching shows or parades (if you're a planner). Meaning on a busy day you're spending another 6 to 12 hours standing (or walking) around. Is it REALLY so much to ask to be entertained during a little of that? I personally don't think so.

I was not only talking about the attraction but like you having something to do going through the queue. I also like the distractions and entertainment waiting on line. Only I prefer to see "real" things, not on a computor screen. My example was TOT. I love all the twilight zone pieces placed along the way. And same with EE and POTC. That is what I prefer. But as I said to the poster I would bet many disagree. Just sharing my opinion.

i'll skip past them if they do that..

According to the article the games are short - about 90 seconds. It's not like finishing a 90 second game is going to increase your wait time because your PLACE in line is preserved. That is, as long as people don't start getting impatient and cutting in lines as you are proclaiming you will do.

I know in Soarin' you can't cut line, you either stand back and don't play, or you play. Presumably they won't let people cut in SM either.

If the line is moving ahead, and people chose to stay and finish a game, then I don't think walking past them is cutting. They made the choice to stay and play, I make the choice to not play. If people are walking ahead of you down Main Street and choose to look in a store window, do you wait behind them until they are done?

But what if the queue ahead of them is empty? I'd move ahead if I could get by without interfering with the game. I've never done the standby queue at Soarin', but the Space Mountain one looks like the games are mounted to one side, and there is space to move beside the people standing there playing.

If you are very close to the boarding area and people stop to play games, thereby causing empty seats, I would move past them. If, however, they are holding up a line that is only going to catch up with the crowd once they finish their 90-second turn then I think it is rude to move past them. You're not going to get anywhere by doing so...you'll either wait behind them or wait on the other side of them. I doubt that the games are located within the last section of the queue so I think that moving past the game-players would be rude.

exactly.... like the commercials for CiCi's pizza... you get one slow person hogging up the line. If they stop and do soemthing else, its not cutting.

If the games are 90 seconds, and the line has moved WAAAAYYYY down.. then I might politely say the line moved. if they still don't do anything, i'm going past, and I BET everyoen behind me would do the same.. including all of you.

This reminds me of when my wife and I were on our honeymoon. We were in line at MGM for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and just as the doors opened the parade was passing by. A guy in front of us stopped to watch what he could see of it. His family started telling him to go, and he told them no. My wife and I politely went past them.

And I'm reminded of being in line at Cedar Point and Kings Island when the line moved up ahead of us while we were talking among ourselves and didn't notice. There was a gap of about 10 feet when people in the queue behind us jumped through the queue rails to get around us and fill the gap. That's line cutting and what's been described above is as well.

Look I'm not being absolutist about this. I'm pretty reasonable here. If the space ahead of the people playing is so big you can't even see the line (as in the queue is pretty empty) or as inthe case described above where you can see that seats are going unfilled because people are holdin the line up, then by all means move forward.

It's the same attitude I take of people taking pictures in line or stopping to look at the scenery. If there's no discernable line ahead of them, by all means bypass them. If you can see the line just ahead and that little gap will be filled just as soon as they are done leaving no impact on how long you wait, then hang back and wait your turn in line.

Actually, in your case it was a quick, inadvertent pause. In the other cases, it's people intentionally holding up the line. I don't believe that going around people intentionally holding up the line - especially so they can play video games - is in any way line cutting.

I personally like video games so I'd be OK with this. I wonder if there is a way around it though? Maybe you miss it if you have Fastpasses like in Soarin'. I've never played a thing in Soarin'.

As for the queue, it is pretty. And BLUE. They sure do like blue.

The new queue looks really good! I cant wait to go check it out on my next trip.
Along with the new changes to the line did they also change the track of the ride or did is that going to be the same?

If you are person 50 in line and the kid in front of you is playing a game when the line moves leaving a small space for 60 seconds and you wait til they are done you are still person 50 in line. You still have to wait for 49 people in front of you to get on first regardless of whether they continued to finish the game after the line moved. This does not affect your wait time in line. You were not "held up" in the line.

If, however, you move past the kid, and likely a mom and dad and a sibling, you have now moved up to person 46. You filled a gap in line that would have been filled shortly without delaying ANYONE behind them from getting on any sooner. In doing so you delay the family from getting on when they should have in spots 46-49. How is this NOT cutting line?

I feel that they have taken themselves out of the line to play the game - what if little Billy wants to play the game again - should we have to wait for him to get his fill? What about the people way out in the sun, I'm sure they'd appreciate everyone filling in the space so they could get in and get some AC too.

I'd motion to the players that the queue had advanced at a certain point, and if they chose not to respond, then I'd go around them.

Most of the line is in the picture posted - that blue room - I dont think they will have interactive games there - SM has a long line up area outside of that winding queue -

now they have computer games etc after you get off the SpaceShip Earth ride that are fun - but you have to wait to try those games out -

90 seconds can seem like a long time - esp if you dont see a line - I'd go around people playing IFF I didnt see a line - IF I saw a line - I'd respect the players...

I guess we'll just have to wait till it opens up and we see pictures and hear the experiences!!

I really don't think it is going to be a problem. Deep breaths everyone. If it is set up the way Soarin is, there are I think 4 or 5 huge screens and so a large part of the line can be involved in the "games." We usually FP Soarin, but one time we stood in line and I thought the games were a nice touch and made the time go by pretty fast.
If going around a few people is that important, then whatever. It will get you on the ride maybe one cycle ahead? Not worth getting annoyed or upset over really. I don't think Disney would set up a situation that would lead to mass cutting and upset. Enjoy the new line and revamped ride. You are at Disney afterall, it could be a lot worse!

Also, the story states that the games accomodate up to 86 guests; you're going to have a heck of a time trying to get around a crowd that size in that not-very-wide queue (it looks wide, but that is the standby and fastpass lines).

I don't care, I am just happy that I can finally ride Space Mountain! Both times I was there it was under rehab. The queue looks cool.

The way I understand it is that a lot of people will be playing the game (86) and they are all on the same timer of 90 sec. So everyone plays and at the end of the game all 86 people move up to the next spot in line.

Your not going to be able to cut in front of 86 people without getting a bunch of poeple upset and most likely getting yourself in trouble. How about you play the game, or watch people play the game and just enjoy the line?

it worked

I guess I am the only one bummed by having to be entertained by video games everywhere we go.

Toy story ride is nothing more than a glorified video game
Nemos ride is basically watching a video. I wished they had done more with the seeing the fish in the real fish tank..like they did at the end, that was cute and clever

I like the animatronic stuff. I like stuff that uses my brain to imagine.

when you put computer stuff in like they have been doing, it stops having you talk with your friends, you stop interacting as much with people. you miss out on some of what life is about

I will bet alot of people disagree but I totally feel as you do. Even though I won't go on the actual TOT ride anymore, I love to see everything in the beginning. I just want to reach out and touch everything. I think they frown upon that though. Same with HM and POTC. And EVERYTHING at WDW!!!!
I wished they had not changed the end of Space ship earth but I DID get a kick out of the new one. And I LOVE Soarin.

But overall I also hope they do not keep going in that direction of computer games.

I agree with you guys. My first thought was, "Why is this a big deal? To me, it's just blue LED lighting - :confused3 - and more video games." Whatever. I'm just super excited to ride it again! I hope everyone has fun as they start testing it out for the rest of us! :thumbsup2
