First floor Boardwalk View rooms

...are now being used! We just got back from a 9 day trip to the villas, and while we were negotiating a room change, I asked about the first floor boardwalk view rooms and he said they just started booking them that week (we checked in on the 28th of May.) So, I took a stroll to the end of the Boardwalk to have a look. They seem nice, slightly elevated from the boardwalk with a little lawn area in the front, and patios instead of balconies. There is also a white picket fence that separates the rooms from the boardwalk, but a patway at one end allows guests in those rooms to walk out their back doors right on to the boardwalk. I don't think those rooms would be my first choice, with Jellyrolls right next door, and everyone on the boardwalk would be able to look right in your room if the curtains are open, but it's a nice option for people who don't like dealing with the elevators!

Is that view a preferred with more points? I have felt that I would save the points and not worry about the view, now especially that it is so close to the boardwalk.

Yes, it is considered a Preferred Boardwalk View. More points than standard, harder to get then just "preferred," at least right now. I don't know how popular the rooms will be, the folks who want to have a short swerve home from Jellyrolls will probably love those rooms

someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you come out those 1st fl BWV rooms to get to the BW, I don't think you can lock the patio doors from outside. You would need to lock the door from inside and go around or leave someone in the room.

if your at jellyrolls you still need to go around to get in those rooms.

Gee...I love Boardwalk view (tho I've yet to get it).
But then, I need those drapes OPEN all the time, don't tend to lock my patio doors and go to sleep without....well, all things considered, I guess I better ask for a HIGHER FLOOR.

Would be fun for people watching tho! (as long as they weren't watching back)

What size are the rooms (studio, 1 bedroom etc)? Besides the privacy and noise concerns, I wouldn't want one because you wouldn't really have a lake view, my guess is all you could really see is the boardwalk itself.

Does anyone know if these are handicapped accessible and how many rooms there are. We have a 2BR booked for November and are going with my wifes grandparents who have mobility issues. I thought they might love sitting out there and watching the action. (I called MS last week and they said they didn't know anything about these rooms) but it seems like they are open.

You probably can't lock the doors from the outside! I've never stayed in a ground floor room, but that makes sense. I guess you would have to hope that someone else was in the room and you could pound on the door after returning from Jellyrolls!

As far as how many rooms, I only asked about the studios since that is what we usually reserve, and I believe he said there were 3 studios...so my guess is they are lock-offs, connected to one bedrooms which can then be converted to two bedroom units. That seems to give them the most flexibility.

As far as the view, the rooms are slightly elevated above the boardwalk, probably about four feet or so, and they are set back about the width of a room, with a lawn in front. Wish I had taken a picture!!! But anyway, I think you would still have a pretty good view of the lake. I was curious to try one of the studios out, being that they would be brand spanking new, but the potential lack of privacy kind of turned me off.

I just returned from staying in one of these rooms #1005. There is no access to the BW--and believe me--I looked and looked. The fence goes all the way around.

I was in a studio--lockoff--right next to the remnants of the Sales Center. It appears they have retained a 1-bedroom model. My room connected to a 1-bedroom, and it looked like there was another studio by Jellyrolls, and that's it.

I had a view of Illuminations and the lake. While the views were good, there was no privacy at all. Whenever the drapes were open, people were looking in the room. Since it's next to the DVC sign, I think there is some curiousity about the rooms. (Not everyone knows about DVC!)

The room was in good shape, but had no clock-radio, no picture on the wall, and no floor lamp. (The room is "on a list" for these items.) The dining table was a new version--cream color with blue trim and a different design and was attractive.

It was noisy, as expected, bit it was kind of neat to sit out on the boardwalk on the patio, and good for people watching. The noise was primarily from people yelling or laughing, and from those games on the boardwalk--especiallly that bell that rings when someone wins. The hallways were very quiet, though.

I did enjoy the location, but will stick with the standard view in the future.

We would not be happy with one of those rooms. We do not like 1st floor rooms that have patios instead of balconies at any of the resorts. Our reservation for our upcoming trip is a 1 BR boardwalk view. We have only 1 request on this reservation. Which is no Handicapped rooms--need the tub with young kids. I wonder if they would accept no 1st floor villas as a request? We make very few requests especially when we have guaranteed boardwalk view. We will take smoking or non smoking, close to the elevators or a hike away it does not matter to us. The boardwalk view villas are our favorite but I know we would not like one located right on the boardwalk. We spend a lot of time on our balcony looking at the people, looking at Spaceship Earth and WS, looking across the lake at YC/BC, watching the boats and watching Illuminations. The higher the floor the better for us. We even like the enclosed balconies that many dislike. But a villa right on the boardwalk, no way. DW & I said we could not imagine how these rooms were going to be when they first started construction on them. After reading this I know they are not for us.

I would call and ask if your reservation is for a dedicated or lockoff 1 bedroom. If it's a dedicated, you would not have to worry since the only 1 bedroom there is a lockoff according to MdmMim. They have many dedicated 1 bedrooms, all 6 times I've stayed at BWV it was a dedicated 1 bedroom.

With a 1 bedroom, you don't have to worry about the tub. Even the handicapped rooms have the jacuzzi tub, it's just the walk-in shower that is different.

Thanks for the reply. I will be callling MS on Monday to add this request It can't hurt. We would rather have a non handicapped villa. But if it was between a handicapped villa or a villa located on the boardwalk. We would choose the handicapped boardwalk view villa.

I'm thinking I REALLY wouldn't like this w/ my 3 yo dd. The activity outside the room could be very distracting if she was trying to nap?
