I haven't posted much on these boards, but I've done a lot of reading. One thing that seemed sparse was trip reports from young couples without kids....so here goes:
Cast: Me and my husband (NJ), 27 and 25, no kids.
Day 1:
Our flight did not arrive at Orlando until after 11 pm. The flight was good, so no trouble there. We had arranged for Tiffany to pick us up at the airport...can't remember our driver's name, but he was right on time and did everything just right. Got our luggage and headed to Goodings for our grocery stop. I don't know if it's an Orlando thing or an east coast thing or just a Goodings thing, but there were no Little Debbie snacks to be found!! I know they're not healthy, but I wanted Little Debbie! We looked at all the candy, all the cookies, all the donuts, and I just didn't care...I wanted nutty bars, oatmeal cream pies, you get the idea.....
Anyway, I got over the lack of Little Debbie (kind of) and we picked up some pop (yes, that's what we say out west...it's not soda, it's not coke...unless it really is coke, and even then it's still pop), beer, chips, pop tarts, probably some other munchies I'm forgetting, and a styrofoam cooler to keep it all cold in our room (no way am I spending $10 a night for a dorm fridge that I can buy for $75).
We got back to the car and had our Tiffany driver take us directly to All Star Music, our home until 4/29. I had requested a non-smoking, king bed, in the Jazz buildings....again, no way am I paying $10 a night for the Calypso so I can save myself 20 steps twice a day! Anyway, first thing she tells me is that the only request I got for the first night was the nonsmoking and that we would have a room change after the first night. Now, had NJ and I not specifically decided not to change to another resort halfway through or stay at a hotel by the airport the first night specifically to avoid a room change, I might have taken the news better. Regardless, it was late and we were tired, and there really wasn't anything I could do at that point. I did however make darn sure that I got every one of my requests from the second night on and that there would be no more room changes!
During this whole checkin process, NJ was paying for Tiffany and bringing our luggage in, so he was privy to none of this. He also was much more absent during the whole planning process, so he didn't know what I'd requested, and he didn't know that you had to make a special request to be in a room that would fit two people to a bed. Well, we get to the room, he complains about the small beds, complains about the room change, and just generally was unhappy about the whole thing. I, of course, didn't take his reaction for what it was, which was just that he was tired and was mildly unhappy at the inconvenience but would be just fine. I blew it up and yelled at him for not being happy in this magical place...we're at Disney and all he can think about is the stupid bed...and he better start being happy right now! Seems he wasn't the only one who was tired and cranky and just needed a good night sleep.
I called one last time before we hit the sheets to confirm that we would get our room requests from there on out, and we settled in to the nightlong struggle for space on a bed that really can't even be considered a double can it? Is it like a twin plus? Anyway, we survived, and we were there, and we were just sure the magic would hit us tomorrow!!
