For years I've been reading this website and jealously noticing when other people get pins. Today I finally got one and I'm shaking my head - it is a promotion that is nothing like any Disney vacation I've ever taken, and I would never use it. How do they determine how to distribute pins? I would think they'd try to match promotions with something in your history to try to entice you to use it.

The pin is for 5 nights/6 days at a value resort, non-hopper tickets, kids stay free for 800$ per adult. We always stay deluxe, get park hoppers, and my one DS is 10, the other 8 months old. Except for DS8 mos, they must have our "demographic" on file. :confused3 :confused3

Do others find that pins match pretty accurately vacations they would like to take, or are they totally random?

Random.

I got about 7 different PINs for WDW last year, and I haven't even been there.

But read the fine print, or as someone else mentioned, the print in an orange section on your email. Seems that it DOES apply to non-Value resorts, it just costs more.

Oh but I guess since your kids are too young and too old it doesn't really apply. Drat.

The price quoted is just for value, you can upgrade tickets, hotels, etc. Of course, this doesn't seem to fit you at all since you have no *kids* to pay for. I have only ever gotten 1 pin and it was for 40% off so not much to match up with there.

Way OT, but you have over 11,616 posts and you've never been to WDW? I'm dumbfounded. Are you at least planning a trip? If not, why are you here? Not trying to sound snotty, just confused.

OP-- I agree with you. It is the strangest pin. I got it last Nov/Dec. My kids will be 8, 5, & 3 on our next trip. Prime age right? That trip would have cost us more at a value than our normal yearly trip costs us at a deluxe. We're AP holders and they know that. At that time people who didn't have kids were reporting getting that pin too. Totally supports the theory that pin codes are completely random.

I don't recall ever getting a PIN code until about 10 days ago. We've been going every year since 2003. Back over the holidays I ordered the new planning DVD which I've done pretty much every year, I even found some of the older tapes while cleaning over the holidays. Well we wanted to go in Oct, Nov or Dec and was hoping they would extend the 4/3 deal. While I was on this website or one of the others someone sugested ordering the DVD and Disney Travel may send you a code, I was thinking well maybe that might happen to me. The next day I got one, it was for the Value resorts 40% off in the fine print it said call them or your TA to ask about Moderate or Deluxe. Well I emailed my TA and they got me a great deal for the GF, now they only had a couple of dates throughout the year but the dates for Nov 15-22 fit into our schedule and we booked our trip.

Can't wait!

I'm not bumbershoot, but I wanted to point out there is another Disney park. It's in California, perhaps you've heard of it? :upsidedow

I've gotten pins for WDW, and the name on it is a little odd, and that's how I know the pins I've been getting are from shipping things from Disneyland to friends in other places. I put their name in the to: ______ space and put their name and my address in the from:__________ so that I can send gifts 'anonymously'. My pins are always to my address with someone elses name, someone I've shipped a gift to from the Disneyland resort.

I wasn't thinking of Disneyland since these boards are focused on WDW, except for a couple of the subboards. Yes, that does make sense. Again, I wasn't trying to be mean or rotten--I was just surprised and curious. It got the better of me. My apologies if it came across wrong and anyone was offended.

LOL, thanks Califgirl.

There is no Disneyland-focused board. If there were, I would be there. :)

Well, except for the fact that we DO plan on going to WDW someday soonish b/c I have family in Orlando and Port Orange, and it would be a reunion too.

I can learn quite a bit, and in fact know quite a bit, about WDW just by reading, so often if no one has replied to someone I can pop in and give a solid answer based on what I've read and help them quicker than if they had to wait for a WDW-visitor.

My cousin, who has vision issues, but who worked for Disney Stores in the Daytona area before the Childrens Place thing, who had passes b/c of being a CM, and who spent much of her entire one year courting period with her husband visiting WDW and who now has season passes with her family....*did not know* about GACs, and has just sat wherever she was put for shows and such. Her children have the same vision problems (congenital cataracts) and now they know that they can ask for special seating areas so that they can see better...don't know if they do, but at least they know now. And who gave her that info? The one who has never been there. :)

I subscribing...going on my first trip in 18 years Jan 31-Feb 8. I want to get a pin for our next trip though!:hyper:

Hi - OP here!

To those who have started watching this thread for ideas on how to get pins - heck if I know!:confused3

As I said, I just got my first pin after travelling to Disney every year for 5 years, and always taking the same "type" of vacation, and none of the characteristics of the pin match anything we have ever done on a vacation!

I hope others have constructuve ideas for you - good luck!

Jane

We've been going to Disney every year since 1989, and we have never gotten a pin....maybe they send them to the people who don't go in order to get them there :confused3

We got the same pin. It does not work for us either (dates and DS is now 12). This was the first pin we ever received. I am hoping that it means we are now in the system to continue getting them.
