Fellow DVCers....need help

anyone know of any nice communities to raise a family?

Hi LovemyDVC-

We just moved to Cocoa- bought the house last October and finally got settled here- dh came down beginning of Feb, I just came down for good two weeks ago.

Brevard County is worth exploring. It's on the coast, so you won't be landlocked- cooler in the summer. We are 50 minutes from Disney. Not sure about the schools, but I think the ones in Melbourne are good. If you have specific questions, I'd be happy to answer whatever I can.

We just looked at Celebration on our last trip. Looks like a really nice place to raise a family. Schools, playgrounds, healthcare right in the community. My dream home is there. Someday!!!

I would like to move to Florida also, but I am past the stage where I need to worry about schools! I would not choose Orlando Schools, however, which make use of "portables" and are dealing with a huge influx of students. I wandered into an Orlando neighborhood by mistake last week. You have seen it from the toll road that goes to the airport(417, I think). About a million houses were built in that subdivision, with only one access road into the subdivision. They were very nice houses, but one access road onto the John Young Parkway?? I got claustrophobia in there! It was scary when I considered all the problems if evacuation became necessary.

anniet-- What things made you choose Brevard County? How close are you to the shore?

DH and I just got married here last year at his cousins' home in Melbourne. His cousin's DW is a buyer's agent in Brevard County, so she was able to show us houses here and we liked the area for the following reasons-

1)We are close to both Orlando and Melbourne so we have 2 decent cities within commuting distance for job opportunities

2) We chose Cocoa, specifically, because it's on the mainland, but we are only 12 miles from Cocoa Beach

3) I grew up on the shore of MA and wanted to live relatively close to the shore

4) I wanted to be a "doable" drive away from Disney but not live right on top of it.

I've been here for 2 weeks now and while I do drive about 100 miles round trip to work every day (found a job in Heathrow-Lake Mary area-to make the pay I was making in Boston) I have to pinch myself each morning when I wake up!!!! :goodvibes

justloveit- I hear the schools in Celebration have been experiencing problems. Not sure they've got all the kinks out yet....
