February 2021 W.I.S.H. - Being your own Fabulous Self

My friend Maureen is part of my group of work friends that are like family. She has raised four great kids, is the amazing math teacher that every parent wishes their child had, is thoughtful, kind and fun to be around. She volunteers her time teaching in our prison and helping to get good people elected in our community-from the local to national level. And even with her busy life she swims several times a week and walks 10-15 miles a week. She’s a healthy eater but always orders dessert when we go out for lunch and doesn’t regret the calories!

Sue is a retired second grade teacher. I remember when I first started teaching saying I want to be like her. She was a fun, high energy teacher who always kept the kids as first priority. She’s the one I would go to for parenting advice. She was always active. Since retiring, she moved to Florida. Still a dream of mine (depending on where my children end up). I often think of her and feel like I did follow in her footsteps.

I'm home today...beginning to feel better. The headache is still there, but my arm is improving. If I had a less demanding job, I may have been able to work...but with this rambunctious and challenging group, there's no way I could handle them with my head pounding like this.

My motivation is last week's 2.5 pound weight loss. If I could lose that much weekly, I will be on track to reach my goal more quickly.
I hope you are feeling better today!

My mom. She was very young when she had my sister and I. She married my dad and he was abusive. She stood her ground. My dad told her (when she was very pregnant with me) that she would never be able to leave him. The next day she served him herself with divorce papers. She was 20 with 2 kids. She struggled. When I was 4 she had my brother and married my step dad. My brother was born with a heart condition and she has handled that great. Never stopped him from doing the things that he wanted. She went back to school when I was in 3rd grade and got her teaching degree. She got straight A's while raising 3 kids and managing the house. She went from having nothing to having what she wants. She has taught me to be a strong women and stand for the things I believe in. She has taught me to work hard for what I want and that my learning disabilities were not something to hold me back. I am where I am today because of her.

Your mother’s story is so inspiring! What determination she must have had!

I am inspired by all of you! The conversations we have here so supportive and checking in is such an important part of my day - you are all awesome!

First day truly back to work... I made a lot of progress on the office, it really feels calmer and much more open but there is still a lot to do. I should be ready to start painting in a day or two, but I've promised myself I'll get thru the last pockets of clutter before I do so.

I got going in my ADHD workbook again yesterday, after a couple days of not doing it which I think contributed to the feeling of questioning if it was real. This week is going to be a lot of thinking about how I do work and what changes I can put in to place to do better. I haven't gotten my whiteboard yet, but I'm starting by putting stickies for to-dos on one of the windows until I do.

I'm going to go ahead and make myself a weight loss goal... as several of you have mentioned WDW trips are great motivators to aim at, so my goal will be to drop a pound a week and then I'll be feeling really good for my trip in September.

My friend and colleague Mary. She is a talented Artist and extraordinary Teacher who inspires both students and teachers alike. She designs and creates all of the costumes and sets for her daughter's school plays and volunteers for everything. She takes care of her extended and immediate family while battling M.S. Her flare ups put her in the hospital too often, and yet her only concern is everyone else. She is a wonderful person...a true role model for all women.

My mother-in-law, who amazes me with how much she does for everyone, and how calm she still manages to be! She's one of those tireless volunteers who became busier after she retired than she ever was when she was working. :rotfl: (They actually named a food pantry after her.) She has a strong faith, a love of family, a green thumb (that I'm slightly jealous of) and a youthful spirit that I hope to emulate when I'm her age.

We’ve been at the beach since last Friday and it’s been sunny every day!
And since yesterday it’s been warmer.
Getting a lot of little projects done.

Been sticking to my meal plan and walking twice a day. Will get on the scale when we get home (no scales at the beach!)

Woohoo...
... I'm also going to say woohoo I've been sticking to my eating plan. I haven't gotten on the scale in over a week but I feel like I might be down a pound or two.
... I did the laundry last night, this coming weekend's laundry not last weekend's laundry.
... I got a 10% raise! Partly merit partly parity adjustment to make sure we're competitive in the market area. That means I can take on a car payment and add to what I'm trying to save for a house downpayment. It gets me a bit more motivated to go car shopping.
