February 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch

Firefly  oh dear....I hope you find something else!

Exactly! I will pay a bit more to get with another company other than Firefly...but not $100 more. My rental with Firefly is $105 for 8 days for a mid-size, and based on other rates out there, it's worth it to stick with it. I will put it on my Discover card and I know they will back me if there are any problems. Discover is awesome about that type of stuff!

I just got an email for a great special from Dollar! Use code 5CO6E for a mid-size SUV for $189.99 per week good thru March 15th. I checked it for my Feb dates and it worked for Orlando--for my 8 nights it was $303 with taxes/fees. I didn't book it because it's still $100+ more than the deal I scored with Firefly, but hopefully this code will help someone else. It's significations lower than a lot of the rates I've been seeing lately.

Sure hope other discounts start coming out now because I really want to book with someone other than Firefly. :(

Thanks for the code. With this code $320 total for a week plus a day plus an hour for the midsize SUV. Currently also have an Alamo minivan res for $420 same timeframe. Really would prefer the minivan. Keeping both reservations for now.

Just thought I'd post. I finally made a reservation. I'm still hoping for a better rate with Alamo, National or Budget. I'm not use to traveling a peak week.

Anyway, with Alamo insiders for Feb. 22-March 1st it was $384 for a minivan.

Fingers crossed it drops!

Is Feb 22-March 1 a peak week? That's when we're going and I thought it would be on the slow side...

According to Disney, it's low to average attendance. However, the price for a minivan is double what I pay for the last week in April so it must be a somewhat popular week.

It is New Hampshire school vacation so you'll see a lot of us! LOL.

This will be our 3rd trip using this week b/c of NH school vacation, prices have never been this high. And it is usually a pretty quiet week.

We are going the exact same dates (2/22-3/1). It is not listed as a peak week, it's rated like a 3-4 out of 10 for attendance. I'm just chalking it up to prices being higher all across the board this year. When I was pricing out hotels it didn't even seem to make much difference what week in February I was pricing--they were ALL high!!! Same with car rentals. And March was higher.

The last few years we have gone at very busy times and we got a better deal by booking our pickup at the Dolphin rather than the airport. I know it seems strange but there was a huge price difference. We just took the Magical Express from the airport to our resort and then got a $8 cab to the Dolphin. We saved several hundred dollars by simply changing the pickup location. May be worth checking!

Same here -- we're picking up at CCC. No matter which way I price it, or which dates I choose, it's more expensive to pick up or drop off at the airport. Our starting point is $147 per week for a compact with Alamo, no coupons yet, picking up feb 10 and dropping off feb 25

Has anyone ever tried to call to get a good rate? Or is it useless? I know I have played with a tone of codes and so far my total is $231 for a standard size picking up at Dolphin on 2/22-3/1. It is such a pain to keep plugging in different codes! But, I was hoping to get my rate under $200. :surfweb:

Dang. Just realized that I haven't rented a car for my Feb. trip (2/7 - 2/13). Prices are pretty high! National discounts are only out through 1/26. What are they waiting for?

I rented an intermediate SUV for a week in October through Budget for $173 (total). Best rate I found for my week in Feb was National using my corporate Emerald Aisle account. $239 for a full size. Hopefully, I will be able to add a coupon when they become available.

True, it's usually great. But Disney has a free dining offer going through all of February -- we found that put prices up a couple of years ago. But they did come down quite a bit just before our trip.

I am having luck for a mini van with 5000491. It might just be my dates but it is not outrageous like other codes.

I got it off flyertalk, I phoned national about it and they said if I have ever been to or know anyone who has been to Ohio University then I can use it.

You can use it, or not, it is your choice. I was just passing on a great rate that I got. I am going on Feb 6 so I can report when I get back.

Do you know someone who has been to Ohio university?
