feb 3-11 sell out

Just a thought..... We were there a few years ago and all the resorts were filled up. So as we got closer to our trip we began to worry about the crowds. Come to find out there was an INTERNATIONAL homebuilders convention going on and the resorts were full. However the parks were great. The homebuilders even had their own buses so they didn't take any seats on disneys buses. Just because the resorts are full doesn't always mean the parks will be.

Absolutely correct! You also have to factor in the fact that just because Disney hotels are full, doesn't mean the hotels off property are full too. The Disney resorts are just a drop in the bucket when it comes to overall occupancy in the area. I've been at Disney when the resorts were sold out (supposedly) but the parks weren't bad at all.

Also, there is a lot of resort work going on right now, so it wouldn't surprise me if there are some rooms out of service, which would make it look like the resorts are all fully booked, but maybe they are only renting out 80% of their total rooms.

I book in January/February because I like the weather that time of year. I know that there's a pretty good chance that somewhere along the line there will be a sporting event, or a competition of some sort, but so far, it hasn't been a huge impact for me (knocking on wood). I'm hoping my trip this month will be the same.

Thanks momof2intx. Appreciate the info.

I also noticed the POFQ food court was busier than normal the week in Dec 2007 I was there.

I hate to say, and cheerleaders and parents please don't take this the wrong way.....but I almost feel Disney should let people know when they book several hundred cheerleaders at a certain resort ? But I'm sure there are reasons for not devulging that info. But I think alot of people would appreciate this info before planning their vacations.

Trust me, at one time or another there is almost always some type of large group at WDW. There are marching bands, dance groups, all kinds of athletic groups, school trips, etc. The calendar would have to list every group and it would be almost impossible not to have your trip overlap with one of the groups. Nothing personal, but honestly, the cheerleaders were nothing compared to the bands that were there when we were a few years ago! Then in the summer, you have all of the schools from abroad bring teenagers that are not accomapanied as they are in the parks all day long.

We were also there during that time, and felt the same way. It was a HUGE convention, however it did not impact the parks. There were lots of convention people at our resort, which I think was POFQ that year. But, they did not bother us and everything was fine. The National Cheerleading comps were also not that bad. I did notice them in the parks, but it wasn't anything major. The worst part was having them cheering on the buses and in the parks...but don't worry, the park attandence should not be that bad at all due to that.

Well I do trust you Alexander.....I've logged in over 30+ trips to WDW. It's just that consistantly we have had/seen trouble connected with the cheerleaders and POP Warner groups. Sorry. I can cite AT LEAST 3 different trips with incidence :
1)POR : cheerleaders were VERY obnoxious in the main pool. Piling up on eachother and forming large pyramids in the pool. The lifeguard almost kicked them out when they tumbled down off of one pyramid and almost landed on someone's head. They also totally dominated the hot tubs for the entire 3-4 hours we were at the pool one night. They piled like 20 of them in the tubs and never left the entire night.
2)Pizza Planet : the fighting in line while waiting for food. I didn't get into it earlier, but let's say there was some foul language and mild pushing and shoving. My husband had to say something to them as my dd's were with us and like ages 10 and 12 at the time. Let's just say it was turning into a big cat fight as more girls were getting involved.
3)POFQ : being loud and boisterous at 8:30 am. Doing cheers outside people's windows (we were asleep as I had a very bad cold and had taken some medicine) and throwing balls back and forth from the courtyard to the upper level room areas. You could hear the balls cracking against the side of the building. Just rude.

So yes...I am well aware of other groups Alexander......it's just the cheerleaders stick out in our mind as some of the more noticeable groups. I guess because of the first-hand experiences we've had. There are times when I'm sure other groups are there, but I honestly can tell you we didn't notice them because they were more low-key. I understand large groups visit all the time at the parks.....I just always know when it's the cheerleaders or Pop Warner though. And I was on one of the planes with a band group in Feb 2006. They were loud on the plane but never noticed them in the parks (we stayed at POP that trip too).

So I am glad the cheerleaders will not be at POP this visit. And I'm sure the majority are well-bahaved. It's those few bad apples that make people feel like they want to avoid them. Sorry. ;) :rolleyes1
