My friend and I are going to WDW for the first time in May and we both LOVE food with a passion. We're poor college students, so we're only going to make 3 or 4 PSs for our 5-day stay, and eat the rest of our meals at counter service places. There are soooo many choices that we haven't even begun to narrow it down :earseek: It would be really helpful if everyone could list 2 favorite sit down restaurants and 2 favorite counter service restaurants. Also, feel free to list any snacks that you love; I'm sure we'll want plenty of those too.

If I have to pick only two, I would say Le Cellier and Ohanas. Depending on your appetites you may be able to share an appetizer, main course and dessert, (WDW portions are usually fairly large) saving a little money and being able to try more food. If you like large quantities of food my suggestions would be Cape May buffets for both breakfast and dinner.
Counter service would be UK's fish and chips and Mexico's La Cantina in EPCOT and Cosmic Rays in MK.
Snacks include anything from the Main Street bakery in MK, Dole Whips from MK, Mickey ice cream bars, popcorn from the vendors and Mickey rice krispy treats.
If you are staying onsite most of the hotels have food courts with decent prices and food.
There is also the Earl of Sandwich at DTD with reasonable prices.

Ahh - college days, I remember :)

Do a buffet with your favorite characters.

Like Mikey ? Do Chef Mickeys for dinner.

Pooh & Friends ? Do Crystal Place for breakfast (late time around 10:30 am - I know you may not wake up early)

Goofy and buddies ? Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner - nice platterof food to share.

Just my 2 cents.
Enjoy yourselves and please party with care and respect.

2 Favorite Sit-downs--Chef Mickey's (mashed potatoes are famous) and Ohana (although my family didn't care for it)

2 Favorite Counter Service--Pizzafari (grilled chicken Caesar salad and pressed Italian sandwiches) and Cosmic Ray's (just b/c of all of the choices)

:flower:

I second the notion of sharing meals at WDW. My husband and I are huge eaters and end up sharing quite a bit. This doesn't work at the buffets however since no sharing is allowed! I do think however the buffets are sensational deal. That way you can really fill up and save the rest of the day. My favorite sit downs are: Liberty Tree Tavern in MK and Sci Fi Dine In at MGM. I know a lot people don't like Sci Fi, but we love it and it is pretty cheap. We also have two kids so our choices might be a bit different than yours! For counter service our two favorites are Columbia Harbour House and Pizzafari (love those Italian sandwiches). Our favorite snacks are Mickey ice cream bars, popcorn and the crepes in France. I know you asked for only two restaurant categories but my favorite buffets (I know technically a sit down but I can never narrow down my favorite food) are Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's. One thing is certain, you will not go hungry while at WDW! Also, you can pig out without guilt, all that walking helps burn it all off!

My favorite soft serve anywhere is at the Animal Kingdom in Asia from the stand. It's so good...tastes like it has sweetened condensed milk in it. :mickeybar

I don't know where you are staying but the grilled cheese sandwiches at Gasparilla's Grill at the GF are only about 3 bucks and as good as grilled cheese gets. My son had one everyday we stayed there (gave him something to do while I watched the fireworks on the dock...he was 3).

I think Le Cellier is awesome for sit-down restaurant. I would also go to the Brown Derby in a sec. I liked my barbeque chicken sandwich w/ apple walnut cake at CRT for lunch quite a bit (I order that everytime!) but my friend did not like her shepherd's pie.... I am also a big fan of the dole whip floats and the tiger striped orange/ vanilla soft serves at the MK near the carpets.

Sorry I can't be of much help...I'm always on a diet it seems at WDW. Sometime I'll have to try more restaurants.... have fun eating for me :flower:

Have fun!

For sit down and Casey's at MK and FlameTree BBQ at AK for counter service. ::yes:: :goodvibes

I went with my best friend while we were in University too. We were on a budget but we did have a character breakfast at Cindy's which wasnt too expensive and it was all you can eat so we didnt really need lunch later.

We got some carmel corn at Icabod Cranes in the MK in Liberty Sqaure and you can buy the big bucket and then you can get re-fills for less. We did that a lot.

Also we would sometimes go back to our resort and eat there since it was less $$.

Have fun.. Go to PI its lots of fun.

For sit down Primetime cafe was fun and not that expensive. We love Artist Point but that can be pricey if you're on a budget.
For buffet or family style definately Ohana's, Boma, and LTT.
For counter service we always do Columbia Harbor house, Flame Tree BBQ, and Peco's Bill's.
Snacks or a lite lunch we go to Casey's for a hot dog or grab popcorn.

For sitdowns I would do:

*Le Cellier: We LOVE this place. Service is great and the food is AMAZING! I had the herb crusted prime rib w/ a veal demi glace (a sauce) and it was the best in the world! The pretzel bread is delicious and the desserts looked really good.

*Crystal Palace Breakfast: If you make an early priority seating such as 8:05 am (which is the earliest) you'll be able to enter the Magic Kingdom before it's open to the public. The food is really great, lots to chose from and the Winnie the Pooh characters are a lot of fun.

For counter service: I have no idea since all of my counter service experiences have been awful. :(

Snacks:
*The Italy pavilion has a store where they sell chocolate. It's the best chocolate I have ever tasted. :flower:
*Gelato from the Italy pavilion (it's sort of like ice cream, but better)
*Egg rolls from the China pavilion
*Frozen chocolate covered bananas
*Dole Whip from the Magic Kingdom
*Pastries from the bakery in Norway..I love the school bread(which is a pastry filled with a sweet pastry cream), the sweet pretzels, and just about everything there!
*Pastries from the bakery in France. I love the strawberry mousse

Have fun! :flower:

Our absolute favorites:
Jiko- Animal Kingdom Lodge (and after dinner you can walk and look at the animals)
Artist's Point- Wilderness Lodge (and after dinner you can see the geyser!)

We really dislike Tony's Italian in MK... expensive and not very good.

For informal options:
-Restaurantosaurus (sp?) in AK... big fixins' bar
-have heard great things about Cosmic Ray's in MK

Happy eating! :goodvibes

50's prime time do a LATE lunch like 3:30 still lunch prices but you can get by with a snack until you get back to your resort

LTT for a character dinner

CS: Pinnochios Village Haus
Cosmic Ray's

Snacks: KETTLE CORN!!!
Mc D's Fries lol

My two favorite restaurants, from a *the food is amazing and definitely something I can't get at home* perspective are Boma and Marrakesh (similar menu, but cheaper at lunch). My favorite counter service is Pecos Bill's.

Check out the menus (http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm) to see if anything strikes you as *must try*.

Have a fantastic trip!

OK, seeing that you are on a budget I would suggest that you make your sit down meals lunches, unless you do the dinner buffets. That being said, I will give you my favorite moderately priced sit down meals.

Cape May Cafe--- all you can eat buffet... costs about $25 per person, but you can eat yourself silly!
Prime Time Cafe--- at Disney MGM--- great "mom's" cooking type food, great fun!

Counter Service:
Pecos Bill's at MK--- love the fixin's bar
Tusker House at DAK--- actually our favorite counter service. Large portions and good food!

Here are some of my favorite places in Disneyworld

Magic Kingdom:

Snacks

- IF you like frozen drinks, you must go to the Enchanted Grove. Its a small stand across from Cosmic Ray's and its right in between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. IT has frozen lemonade and frozen rasberry lemonade. The frozen lemonade is beyond words.

- The main street confectionary: If you like fudge, you'll be in heaven. My favorite happens to be the peanut butter/chocolate fudge cause its so soft. They also have a lot of variety with fudge, chocolate and candy!

-There are plenty of soft serve ice cream areas around the MK, i like the one in Tomorrowland,i think its "Auntie Gravity".

Counter Service

- Cosmic Ray's: Standard hamburger/chicken finger fare but I happen to really like what they have. Also, entertainment by Sonny Eclipse, an audio-animatronic robot who sings in the main room.

- Columbia Harbor House: Fried chicken, fish, and some more variety from the other hamburger places. They used to have soup in a bread bowl but dont any more, but still they do have soup. Nice North Eastern US atmosphere and if its busy downstairs, its always empty upstairs to find seats.

Sit-down

-Liberty Tree Tavern: Probably my favorite sit down restaurant or restaurant in genreal in Disneyworld. Their stuffing, turkey, and mashed potatoes have me looking forward to it every day of my life! Great desserts and if you do the cahracter dinner, the characters will keep you company. I always get great interaction there from them.

- Cinderella's Royal Table: You're dining IN the castle, so you're starting off with an original dining experience right off the bat. They have a lot of meat and chicken on the menu with great side dishes and desserts. ANd if you hapen to be there at night, you can watch Wishes from inside the castle!

Epcot

Snacks

- Cool zone: This is half attraction, half free beverages. Its in one of the Innovations (i think Innovations West) and its a big igloo taht youw alk through to get to an area where you get Coca Cola drinks from around the world. For FREE. Try out as much as you want, but be warned, some of the beverages arent loved by everyone! Still, if you're thirsty, give it a try!

- Kaki Gori snowcones. In the Japan pavilion, they have a stand with snowcones. Very finely cut ice and flavors that one doesnt usually find in the US. I havent gone there yet but have heard great things.

- French patisserie: The french bakery has some amazing baked goods that you should try! I enjoy the napoleons. Norway also has a bakery but i havent tried it yet, hopefully next time!

-Fountainview Bakery: A bakery in one of the Innoventions plazas. Friends of mine have tried it and really enjoy it.

Counter service

Unfortunately my favorite place to sit down is now being renovated. THe sunshine food fair at the Land had so much variety and great food. It was a food court with a lot of differnet stands, my favorite being the italian stand. Great dessert place too. I dont really know what will become of it after the place gets a facelift for Soarin. I dont really know any other sitdown places cause I always went to the Land. Though before that there was "Pasta Piazza" but thats also gone :(

Sitdown

I already posted a bit about Epcot sit down restaurants so I'll just copy and paste that here.

Le Celier: I just tried it for the first time last year and loved it. The pretzel bread was out of this world and even competes with Olive Garden breadsticks! (which coming from me is a great honor!) Le Celier steaks are great and the desserts were amazing if you have room for them!

- Alfredo's: The atmosphere was very festive with numerous songs breaking out! At one point, a song broke out and everyone started swinging their napkins! It was one of the highlights of the vacation! The food was also really good and a lot of variety

- The Japanese sit down place. I think its called Teppanyaki Dining room. Went there a few trips ago and was very impressed. Sitting in front of the grill as the chef prepared everything was a unique experience and the food itself was excellent. Very fresh and filling while not having a heavy feel to it.

- The Coral Reef restaurant in the Living Seas. Though not in World Showcase, this was a very classy sitdown restaurant. The entertainment is a huge fish tank which my party was lucky enough to sit right next to. And the food was very good too. Also, if you arent a big fan of seafood, there are plenty of other dishes to get. The desserts in this place are among the best I've had: both in taste and presentation.

i think ive answered this question at least a few times on here.

my favorite is definitely Biergarten (epcot germany). buffet - german food - live entertainment - $20-ish, but youll leave stuffed and happy and the food is GREAT. meats and cheeses and pretzels and sausages and lots of other awesome stuff.

surprised nobody else usually mentions it!
