Maybe I caught a castmember having a bad day, but these things do have expirations now. I've always heard they are good beyond, kind of an unwritten rule. And in The Unnofficial Guide to Walt Disney World by Bob Sehlinger&Len Testa on pg 79 "At both WDW and Disneyland in California, the return window expiration time is ingnored as a matter of policy, though Disney keeps this something of a secret."

Wasn't a huge deal, but I took my daughter (6yrs old) on Splash Mountain on 11/1 3hrs after the fast pass window expired, and we were denied entrance. Stand by was marked 45 min, but only lasted about 30.

Didn't really want to make a scene, but has anyone else experienced this crackdown? Earlier last week when the MK was empty, we were a little late on a few but had no issues whatsoever.

Thoughts??

This started back in March, so yes, we have definitely heard of it. :)

Tons of threads about how the DIS "dislikes" it. ;)

You must not have looked at the tickets closely because they actually now say on them that they're not able to accommodate late returns.

As stated, return times have been strictly enforced since March.

It says right on the fastpasses they don't allow late arrivals. They started enforcing return times months ago.

I don't understand why. The whole point of Fastpass is to come back and ride it at a specific time. If you don't come back within that time you don't get to ride, it's very simple. You don't get to just stroll back 3 hours later and expect to be able to ride.

Coming back when you want to kinda defeats the purpose of the FP - I can understand why they decided to enforce it.

Yes, it is very simple, but for YEARS you could just "stroll back". No need to be snarky about it to OP.

I wasn't being snarky. People abused it the "grace period" and now you can't do it anymore. It wasn't a privilege being taken away, it was reinforcing the point of Fastpass.

In OP's defense I can see how most of the general public wouldn't know these things. I'm sure there are a lot of people who still don't know about the change, especially when the guide books that were published prior to, say it's ok. I can see how it would be frustrating. :goodvibes But now you know OP, so pass it on please. :thumbsup2

Some people don't like Disney enforcing the time limit. Some people do like Disney enforcing the time limit. The point of Fastpass was originally to let us walk the shops and grab a snack instead of waiting in line for an hour or two. Some of us ride other rides which is okay as long as we can do those things sticking with that one hour time period.

Folks the purpose of this board is to assist with trip planning.
The new FP regime has been discussed to death. However there will be travellers who have not been for a while and may not know of the change.

If posters wish to pass judgement on like or dislike of the current system please take it to another board.

Telling posters how to now use FP would be most helpful :)

and Passporter both provide online updates to their books. These guides are usually sent to the printers in the Aug/Sep time frame the year before their cover year, ie the 2012 edition went to press in August 2011. Disney changes things on their own schedules.

The fastpass change is covered on the Touring plans site.

Page 79 - Walt Disney World began enforcing FASTPASS return time windows in March 2012. Now you must return within the actual window printed on the FASTPASS. You have a 15 minute grace period after the end of the window to return to experience the attraction. Disneyland in California still allows for returns any time in the day after the beginning of the return window.

The 15-minute grace period cannot be counted on. Also, someone posted recently that DL was about to begin the same policy later this month, though I don't know how accurate that is.

That's interesting about DLR. I must say DLR's FP system works much differently than WDW's system. At DLR, you insert your park tickets into the machine upside down because it the scanner is in a different place. Also, (pretty much common knowledge though), several FPs are disconnected from the system. Still being able to use late FP is another difference between the systems.
