Fast Pass changing?

We do not have AP.... We do have time-share, thru my in-laws (as do hundreds of thousands of others) This is what allows us to plan a trip to WDW. What about others who have free-stays and perks through other hotel/accomodations... Relatives or friends within driving distance... etc.... etc...

To be quite frank, Without being able to use FastPass, we would simply not be able to enjoy a trip to the MK... THAT IS SAD... But, the bottom line is we would simply not pay the high ticket prices to just stand around all day and watch others enjoy the attractions....

I agree with others who say that this goes beyond 'Perks' for resort guests... This is basicly saying, Stay here, on our property, pay completely exhorbitant and ridiculous prices for a little two-by-four hotel room with no room or kitchen facilities to take care of your family... Or, just don't come.

I hope Disney NEVER does this.

Didn't the fast-pass system start out this way, and there were almost riots and fist-fights as paying guest were effectively denied access to the attractions that they had payed for when purchasing their tickets???

To me, that is the bottom line. It is BAD BUSINESS, bait and switch, misleading the product, etc... If I pay to get in, I want fair access to the products and services that I paid for.

If they institute this idea, Disney won’t stop at issuing FP’s only for onsite guests. They will also make distinctions depending on where you are staying onsite...... (list of categories followed by....)

Lastly you would have the concierge guests – anybody staying at a Deluxe Resort in a Concierge room. These exalted few wouldn’t even need a FastPass.
OMG...hahahahaha... I have become one of the "exalted few"

Attraction CM’s would be trained to recognize them on sight.
But will they be forced to memorize my name and use it in conjunction with the words "lord" "sir" or "mister"?

Concierge guests will be escorted into their own private line, well away from the teeming masses pathetically waiting their turns.

Sounds great if you like the sound of a Disney caste system. I really don't believe this is what Walt would do. He must be turning over in his grave.

Why just stop at FastPasses. Disney could be doing a lot more for their onsite guests.

How about a new policy where CM’s are only polite to onsite guests. Not that they need to be rude to those staying offsite (though that would OK too), but CM’s would be under no obligation to actually be helpful to those staying offsite.

How about a policy where some Characters only interact with onsite guests. This would be pretty easy to coordinate. Everyday all guests would get a list of what characters will be active in the park and which characters will be reserved for onsite guests. You have to figure that Mickey, Minnie and all the Princesses would only cater to onsite folks. Offsite guests would be relegated to looking for the likes of Chip (no Dale). If an offsite staying child approached an onsite reserved character, that child and their entire family would be banished from the park for the rest of they day. Multiple infractions would result in more severe penalties.

I also think that Disney would be following sound business practices if it would restrict which guests would be allowed to take pictures while in the parks. Onsite guests would obviously be given a carte blanche to take photo’s anywhere they pleased. Offsite folks would be restricted to a few smoking areas for their shots. If an offsite guest wanted to take a picture of the Castle, they would have to go to a special location on Main Street and buy a ticket that would give them special permission to take one (and only one) photograph in front of the castle. Of course if any onsite guests was also trying to take a picture at the same time, offsite guests would have to step respectfully aside and wait until the area was clear before they could take their photo.

Oddly enough, perhaps people don't realize why WDW is where it is, and a good part of why it came into existance... because Walt did not have enough money to buy the land required in California to build all the surrounding hotels when he built Disneyland. That is a big reason why WDW is situated where it is... land at the time was cheap in Orlando and surrounding areas so they could build their own little fiefdom...with all their own accomodations. Don't think for a second that Disney would walk away from the opportunity to ensure that they were capturing every last dollar they could by acquiring all the hotel properties they could get, and then requiring a stay at them as part and parcel of going to WDW.

Fast Pass was always for everyone. It was never for onsite guests only.

I think it is a great idea and would love to see it happen. There is nothing wrong with giving more perks to onsite guests. Sounds like the only ones to have a problem with it are the offsite guests. No one is making them stay offsite so there isn't any kind of favorism here. You all are more then welcome to stay onsite and receive the perks too. This has inspired me to write my first letter to Disney and tell them what a great idea is it!

Universal Studios currently does this. I just see it as an extra perk for spending ALL my money at DW

I disagree. Walt was looking for a place to build his EPCOT - the city of tomorrow - and there wasn't enough land in Anahiem to do everything that he envisioned.

ROTF LOL!!!!!!! Love the latest humorous posts!!!!!

This is NOT about offering 'perks' to resort guests... The way the crowds and the parks are, this is effectively DENYing a person who paid for a ticket access to what they paid a ticket for.

This would most definately be a 'class' system... Of course, only those who have deemed themselves as official Royalty are the ones who do not see that.

It would guarantee that I NEVER paid for tickets to the Disney Parks.

Ohhhh Yes... This would most definately be another example of 'Eisnerism'.... Everybody knows that Walt has been turning over in his grave for a lonnnnnng time now.

>>> only one at a time and it could be hours out...
If the come back time is way out, you can get another fast pass about 2 hours after you got this one.

>>> never for on site guests only ...
I was told that on site guests were the guinea pigs.

Disney hints:

The underlying problem is that, for certain days and those days seem to be getting more and more proliferous, WDW is just plain too crowded.

Horrible, horrible idea. First off, the reason it works at Universal is because Universal only has three hotels (with maybe 2,500 rooms total..IF that) which means probably 70% (at least) are not staying at their hotels. Disney has 30,000 hotel rooms so this kind of method just wouldn't work. Not to mention, Disney has been advertising Fastpass as a "free guest service for everyone" since it began and considering a large percentage of a rides hourly capacity is given out to FP, it is simply absurd that Disney would cater to only their hotel guests and make everyone else wait in long line during regular operating hours- where every guest should be treated equal no matter what hotel they're staying at.

Folks, many of you are getting the wrong idea. These suggestions represent good business. It's in Disney's best interests to ensure that those spending the most (onsite guests) have every incentive to keep staying onsite. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

I just happen to think there is so much more Disney could be doing to guarantee that us onsite guests are treated correctly – with a level of respect that mirrors our place in the Disney hierarchy.

Something else that Disney could do for us onsite guests is provide special and separate water fountains. I envision a system where there would be two water fountains side by side. One would be labeled “Onsite” and the other “Offsite”. The onsite fountain would have chilled filtered water. The offsite fountain would only get cleaned periodically.

Or how about special seating on the Buses that run between all the resorts. I think Disney should continue to provide this service to offsite guests. But onsite guests should have the first pick of the seats. Maybe the offsite guests could move to the back of the bus. If a bus was full, offsite guests would then be required to stand and give up their seats to onsite guests.

Just a couple of ideas. Maybe some of you can come up with more.

Boy, I can't wait to bring my refillable mug from Dixie Landings and go pool hopping.......ahh, those onsite perks

Rrrrarrrr, hisssssss.......

Why stop there? We might as well just make Thursday: offsite day, and the rest of the week (Fri-Weds) only for on-site guests.

You can disagree all you want - but what is creating your own "city of tomorrow"? The land pacts and abatements obtained from the State of Florida were and still are unheard of... certainly not some egalitarian system where all are equal. Other municipalities would love to strike the deal that Disney got. It is not all just some altruistic project.

I doubt they would do it because they would be taking away something for offsite guests that has been advertised for everyone (see the planning DVD). If they wanted to do it, they should have done it onsite only from the beginning.
