I'll be using the DDP the first time in May, and have a few questions:

Does anyone know why the Basic Dining Plan does not include a resort refillable mug?

What is a "non-Disney" restaurant?

Are there any entrees at the restaurants on the plan that are not included on the DDP?

Thanks!

I'll be using the DDP the first time in May, and have a few questions:

Does anyone know why the Basic Dining Plan does not include a resort refillable mug?

It never did. The Basic Plan is the original Dining Plan from back when Disney only offered one (the deluxe plan was added in 2008 and the quick service plan in 2009). There was no mug included with it then either. When Disney added new plans that either 1) cost a lot more or 2) didn't include any table service credits, they threw in the mug as extra incentive for those looking at those plans. The basic dining plan is still by far the most popular dining plan at WDW. Even in informal surveys on this board, more guests select the basic dining plan than select the other two plans combined. They don't need to offer a refillable mug with it.

What is a "non-Disney" restaurant?

Refers to a restaurant on WDW property that is not owned or operated by Disney itself, but by a third party that contracts with Disney. Most of the restaurants in Epcot World Showcase and Downtown Disney fit this category.

Are there any entrees at the restaurants on the plan that are not included on the DDP?

Thanks!

No, there are not. All entrees on the menu are included. I do know that Marrakesh has a surcharge for ordering their multi-course "feasts" on the dining plan, and if you choose a fixed-price menu at certain restaurants you are limited to the entrees on that menu, but that is the only exception of which I am aware.

What is a "non-Disney" restaurant?!

I know the rain forrest Cafe is not included in the dining program. Although located in Animal Kingdom is is not a disney restaurant.

from what I am reading-- if the place is a participating place you get the choice from the menu. The menu is not a limited one for people on the dining plan

I know the rain forrest Cafe is not included in the dining program. Although located in Animal Kingdom is is not a disney restaurant.

Rainforest Cafe is owned and operated by Landry's Restaurant Group. It is not inside AK. It's located outside the park gates. You don't need park admission to go there, and they don't accept the Disney Dining Plan.

Inside the park gates, Landry's also owns and operates Yak & Yeti, which does accept the Disney Dining Plan.

Although not all restaurants operated by third parties accept the Disney Dining Plan, some of them do. All the ones at Epcot World Showcase except Bistro de Paris do, as do several at Downtown Disney.

Can anybody tell me the cost of the DxDP during peak season? I thought it stayed at $71.99 but when I priced adding it on for 5 extra days in June, Disney's numbers are way off from mine. :confused3 Only thing I can think of is the cost must have gone up for summer???

I dunno maybe I'm missin somethin. :rotfl:

Anyway TIA.

The deluxe dining plan does not change prices in peak season. Only the basic plan does. Make sure they are not adding extras like trip insurance to your quote.

When I called Disney about the QS they said it was $33.99 in July. Did they raise the price or is it because it is the summer (July)?

Just experienced this myself ... Was quoted on the Disney online chat a price of $34 per adult and $12 per kid under 10. (for late May 2010) I asked if this included tax ... and the answer was no.

I know I paid $32 per adult and $10 per kid under 10 in March ...

I've been browsing the menus at AllEars and I'm pretty disappointed in the kids meal choices. My DD is an adventurous eater and would prefer to eat things other than chicken nuggets, macaroni & cheese, pizza, and burgers. I know she can share off our adult meals but since I'm paying for the Dining Plan for her that seems silly. Can anyone recommend some good CS places she can get a kids meal that is not of the usual variety?

To counter this, I am doing a lot of buffet for my TS. Then the kids can eat off the entire buffet. My kids would much rather eat salmon than a hot dog. Neither will touch mac n cheese. I feel your pain. CS is going to be a huge issue for us. We will probably be splitting adult meals with them and letting them and using kids CS credits for breakfast a lot of the time. DH and I are not breakfast eaters.

we have the same issue with my 6 y/o granddaughter. she'd much rather have a steak, salad, veggies, or pasta (and no i don't mean mac n cheese) for example over chicken nuggets any day (but she's been raised to eat dinner with the family not get fast food while everyone else has a meal). i get that they play to the crowd but it's a shame that so many kids will grow up thinking pb&j, pizza, and chicken nuggets are fine dining if they're served on a plate rather than in a fast food container. :scared1: when we go we try to do dinners at places like narcoossee's or coral reef that have a steak or fish option for kids.

We are eating at Le Cellier (steak for DD), Les Chefs de France (fish for DD), Flying Fish Cafe (fish for DD), Whispering Canyon Cafe (the skillet maybe? looks like the best choice for her), Ohanas and Akershus. The best CS kids meal I've found so far is at Wolfgang Puck's where she can have a California Roll IF it's included on the dining plan!

Children's Meals and Character Meals Questions

Do character meals require two TS credits per person?
Only Cinderella's Royal Table is a 2 TS meal. All other character meals are 1 TS. (Mickey's Backyard Barbecue features characters and costs 2 TS credits,
but is considered a dinner show.)

Are you only allowed to do one character meal per stay?
You can attend as many character meals as you like.

What if I want to attend a character breakfast and have a sit-down meal the same day?
You can use the credits whenever you wish, including more than one TS meal on the same day, as long as you have enough credits in your account to pay for the meals.

Everything I've seen references ages 3-9 for children. What if there is a child under 3 on the reservation? Do you just pay OOP for them?

Children under 3 years old may share from any other party members’ plates as desired. In the case of buffets and other all-you-can-eat options, this is like getting an infant or toddler’s meals for free, and you can prepare a separate plate for them. At other restaurants and eateries, you can still, of course, share your food with your infant, but if you want anything else for your infant, you would have to pay for it separately.

Some guests have reported that they were able to purchase the children’s Dining Plan (normally for children 3-9 years old) for their infant or toddler (under age 3). However, in turn, they had to purchase the infant a park ticket as well. This is because the dining plan is available only for persons age 3 and over. In order to get dining credits, you’d have to register an infant under age 3 on your room or package reservation as being 3 years old, and 3-year-olds are required to have park tickets. The same problem arises when a guest wishes to “upgrade” a child age 9 or under to the adult dining plan – it would be necessary to register the child as being 10 years old, and to purchase an adult park ticket for the child on a package reservation that includes tickets. This approach would work better on an annual passholder or DVC reservation, where a ticket purchase is not required to get the dining plan.

Which CS locations do not have a separate children’s menu?
I understand that where there is no children’s menu, children can order off the regular menu.
• Toluca Turkey Legs
• Casey's
• Pete's Doggone Good Dogs
• Sommerfest
• Yorkshire County Fish Shop
• Main Street Bakery
• Golden Oak Outpost
Boulangerie Patisserie

Can I pay for my child's meal in cash, and use their credit for a meal for me?
If your child is 9 or younger, sorry, child meal entitlements cannot be used for adult meals. If you don’t mind eating a meal from the children’s menu, you can use the child’s credit to purchase one, then eat it yourself. If the child is 10 years old or older, they get adult credits, so the answer is yes.

Can I pay for my child’s meal in cash, and save his/her TS/CS credits to use for them on another day?

Yes.

Can my ten or eleven-year-old order a child meal and "pay" for it with their adult Dining Plan credit?

Generally, yes. Let your server or cashier know what type of credit you are using to pay for the meal.

My child doesn’t like the children’s meal choices. Can I order an adult meal for my child?

Children’s credits must be used to purchase meals from the children’s menus, where a children’s menu is available. The best you could probably do is have an adult trade meals with the child once the meals are ordered and delivered. The following quotes a message from a Disney Dining castmember, regarding changes to the Dining Plan as of 2007, relevant to the issues discussed in the several questions above:

You will not be allowed to buy dinners for a neighboring table because you have credits left. ... You get that as part of a package and package entitlements are non-transferable. Just like you can't give extra days off of your ticket to your sister. You got them at a huge discount and you can't give them away.

Per this policy, as an example, if your Key to the World card shows that you have two adults and two children on your reservation, you will be able to order on your dining plan in one transaction a maximum of two adult and two child meals. While you can order fewer meals than you are entitled to according to the number of persons on your reservation, you will not be permitted to order more. (While the party in the above example could order one adult and two child meals on the dining plan, they would not be permitted to order meals for three adults and one child and pay for the third adult meal with the dining plan.)

The above is taken from the FAQ (found in post 5 of this thread), and it explains what Disney's policy is for kids meal credits.

The Disney Dining Plan Brochures also have the kids meal policy printed in them, and you can find links to those brochures in the first few posts of this thread.

Good CS for kids' meals:

Flame Tree BBQ was OK - there was roasted chicken leg with 2 sides for the kids (we got grapes and carrots, I think).

Sunshine Seasons - had some good choices for kids. We got a stir fry chicken with rice. Pretty good. We also got a kid's breakfast meal here that was the same stuff as the adults - only smaller.

My best advice is to read the allears' menus and plan your meals according to the kids' menus, instead of what most appeals to the adults.

Can you confirm, perhaps a recent visitor, if QS credits are just lumped on the room acct., or are adult and child credits distinguished?

I was under the impression that there was only a # of credits and that adult/child credits could not be distinguished from each other. Has this been changed?

The credits are separate. On your KTTW card it will say for an example, 2AD/2CH, meaning 2 adults and 2 children. So you would not be able to order 2 adults meals and 1 child.

We have the QS plan for our trip in late April. What is included with this at EoS? Thanks.

Guess I need to clarify. Trying not to be a pest in line by not knowing what is included on the QS plan. Ex...sandwich, side such as soup, dessert, drink. Especially, choice of sides plus dessert or just one or the other. Thanks.

Basically everything on the menu is included in the dining plan. You can get a combo meal (burger and fries) with a dessert and drink. I don't believe you could get the burger & fries w/ soup. You can't substitute soup for dessert or anything like that.
