Fanny Packs

TO be fair though, I've used fanny packs in the past and quite love them, especially if you're on an outing that doesn't require snacks.

I would wear it exclusively to the amusement park close by. I brought some friends once and the one friend gave me such grief for wearing it at the beginning of the day, but halfway through the day while he was having to drop his bag off at the communal boxes and I was picking out my seat on the ride, he finally relented and admitted that my fanny pack was a lot more useful, even if it was a fashion faux-pas.

I no longer us my fanny pack. After a couple of days I found it uncomfortable. I hated feeling it wrapped around my waist for days on end. I think a cross body bag is much more comfortable.

What do you mean these aren't cool! :p

The term "Fanny pack" always makes me snigger... the word "fanny" is actually quite rude in British English!

Interesting.... I've never called them fanny packs. They were always called belt packs around here. That's what I've always called them.

I still have my '90s Disney and Pokemon belt packs and I still use them on a regular basis. I'll be wearing one on Sat when I go to the annul book sale. It's a warehouse sale where you have to dig through pallets of books. You do NOT want to carry a purse in there.

String back pack. So light I barely feel it, my hands are free, and nothing around my waist.

I have a high waist and so would never wrap something around my waist nor do I tuck shirts in.

Same here.

I think I still have a Disneyland fanny pack circa 1987. But I can't wear it because people will point and laugh and post photos here. :o

DW told me years ago "If you ever see me even thinking of wearing a fanny pack just shoot me.":rotfl: I've never had one, but I guess if you really need something it's no big deal to wear one at WDW. DW carries a purse, and I wear cargo shorts that'll hold my stuff --which is only wallet, sunscreen & phone. I would encourage anyone going to WDW to carry as little as possible to the parks, it's a much better experience. Having said that, if you have small kids, you pretty much are going to have to carry supplies.

What doesn't fit in my cargo shorts pockets stays behind. I don't do fanny packs. Never have.

According to some self-proclaimed fashionistas, you guys are hopelessly out of date.

I never understood the stigma surrounding fanny packs. I don't know why people think they're so horrible. Not saying you have to be wearing the same one you bought in 1987, but the overall concept of a fanny pack/belt bag is solid and practical. What's wrong with that?

Me, I don't actually own one, but I would seriously consider it. Sometimes I get tired of the small backpack I wear (gets hot on my back and armpits, tired of taking it on and off when getting on and off rides), and I've had various cross body bags that I wear on 'long day' outings, but they start to get heavy on one shoulder and the strap rubs up against my hip as I walk making the fabric of my shirt in that spot start to pill.

I love fanny packs. I think they are the most convenient because I'm not slinging them around to get access to things. Having said that, I have a light backpack that I take, but more often than not, I have a little Tinkerbell case that I wear with my phone, annual pass, and credit cards/cash. I use a little drawstring knapsack to carry my bottled water, external battery, aspirin & stuff. All of that, except the bottled water would fit in a fanny pack. I hate carrying anything, and a purse is so inconvenient.

My little Tink case is like this one, and the drawstring is similar to the one below, though it's one of those giveaway types.

Fanny packs are actually making a come back!! And you can wear one on almost every ride in universal so that's a plus. You need a locker for cross bodies and wristlets. Almost everyone in my touring group last trip wore one and we are all in our 20s.

No and never will. Small draw string bag for me.

Sometimes I have worn my Disney pin fanny pack that holds ask the essentials. Most of the time I wear the fanny pack like a crossbody bag. It's useful and doesn't make my shoulders and back hurt at the end of the day.

I proudly wear one every trip. My kids hoot and laugh but I ignore them. When they need something it is a different story as whatever they need is always in my fanny pack. I do not use one in every day life but in the parks it is wonderful!

Yes, I use one. I thought it would be super dorky, but it was so convenient during our first trip years ago. (Two strollers, everyone's tickets, paper FPs, camera-- just so much easier to have everything where I could just grab it while walking)

Now I don't need it as much. If I'm not wearing it, some days my teen DD will take it to use in the parks if the kids go off on their own. So it can't be that nerdy if my teenager asks to use it.

We got a new puppy, and I actually wear it sometimes when I walk her in my neighborhood. If I'm wearing something with no pockets, it's the easiest way to carry treats and my phone.

It looks like this (but a neutral green)

I am not a purse person. I carry basically a wallet that has a crossbody strap (if I have no pockets). There is no way I would be comfortable carrying a purse around Disney. I just find a crossbody strap to be annoying (large breasts) and I know I would be super grumpy in the heat. I'm worried about losing things, so a regular purse that I had to carry would be a source of constant stress in the parks.
What brand is this bag?? I like it!!

Besides taking mine to the laundromat with a crap load of quarters, this is the only time I've ever worn a fanny pack.

Some people have brought up the point that you need to use a locker for some rides, this is something I never thought of, but what rides at Disney World would you need a locker for? Ok, roller coasters, I guess. Another good point for bringing something small.

It would make my day if I was behind someone in a bag shop and they asked for a 'fanny bag' I think I would choke with laughter :rotfl2:

I used to wear a fanny pack that was a freebie from AmEx years ago. It was a Mickey themed one. With young kids, you are pretty much stuck wearing something bigger, so I use a small backpack for keys/phone/sunblock/rain ponchos/wallet/water bottle/sunglasses.

Oh there's no question about that. I stick with styles so long they eventually become fashionable again. Just give the cargo shorts some time, its too good of an idea to stay gone for long. :)
