I went out and bought the shirts and paints tonight, so we can make ours this weekend. I can't wait... ...I sound silly getting excited over something like this. I just have to get a small infant t-shirt or onesie for my daughters. I will be taking pictures too, including the progress, so I'll post them when we are done.

OK, we did them and they turned out great. I still have to take a picture of DH's shirt. He decided to spray the back of his too, then the boy's and then the baby's, so I went ahead and did mine too. I think they turned out great! Here are our pictures from start to finish.

I am so glad you posted step by step instructions. Now that its hotter here I don't think the shirts will have any problems drying.

P.S. The glitter fabric spray works wonderful. No rubbing off.

And I agree that the most difficult part is peeling off the flour mixture. Tedious!

Well, my boys and I made these shirts over the past two days, and learned an important lesson, that I will now pass on.

In order to save money, I didn't buy spray on paint. We were making the mickey tie dyed shirts too, so, I used the extra dye, and we just squirted it on.

I *think* this was too much dye. we didn't get white, when we peeled away. It was a brighter color of what we died it. You have to sort of squint to see the mickey. The kids are still happy though, so, not a total loss.

So, for everyone else, pay the extra couple of bucks to get spray on paint.

I made these shirts for the family (except dh who now regrets now having one) for our last trip in Dec.

They have washed well and we've worn them again.

I can't wait till our next trip when I can make more

I used Tulip Glitter Fabric Paint. I sqeezed on the flour/water mixture in the shape of Mickey like everyone else and then instead of spray painting I took a cheap paintbrush and some fabric paint and painted around the design. I washed it after 72 hours and none of the glitter came off.

Well, last night, while laying in bed, I came up with a brilliant idea to fix the mistake I had caused by using tie dye, rather than spray paint.

Again, rather than using spray on paint, I just squirted, out of squeeze bottles, dye. I think it was just too much dye, and it basically ran under the flour/water hard design. What was there when we peeled off the swirls, was just a slightly different shade of our main color.

Last night, I went over the swirls with a clorox bleach pen. Now, they look like they should! I let it dry over night.

The kids were thrilled when they wolk up and they saw them.

DS and I were going to make these solar shirts last year after I saw them in FamilyFun magazine, but we never got around to doing them. Has anyone ever made any design other than a Mickey head? I know they had a sun in the magazine, which looked kinda cool. DS wants to make one, but he's not sure what design to do. Anyone have any ideas?

I bet you could make a silouette of any favorite character. Draw it on paper to see if a swirly inside makes a Pooh still look like a Pooh, or whoever you want it to be. The color of paint could help with the identity also.
