Fake Tiffany VENT

Thanks to the PP for posting the Sean Connery picture. Hubba hubba! Made my morning. :D

As far as the original post..

It is such a slippery slope when it comes to arguing things that people will spend money on. Example. My family things its crazy to spend 3k on a 6 day vacation inside the US, but me? Uh, I don't agree especially if the 6 days is in disney world..

As far as the original post, it is both peoples bad. The shop owner should have had it authenticated before selling, but as well the poster should have made sure that it was the real deal before purchase. Mistakes happen and in these things when you are talking about high end consignment sales tend to be final.
It pays to cover all your bases.

So OP, I'd try again to have a nice calm discussion with the store owner. I would ask her nicely to meet you at Tiffanys so that they could confirm if it is real or fake, and suggest maybe she might want to bring her other tiffanys pieces to be on the safe side so there will not be anymore question of authenticity. I would also bring up nicely again that you and she have had a good business relationship and it would be benefit both of you if you can work it out.

If she refuses, you can always re-sell the knock off on craigslist as a knock off. There are other people who would be more than happy to purchase it for that reason. :)

What irritates me is that the argument is only slightly related to the question.

You buy something at a pawn shop. It's a fake. What do you do? :confused3

I found a thread by OP where the boyfriend bought her a used mink from the Consignment store and she was too broke to store/care for it.

OK-I really think High end designer clothes to the OP are like a compulsion, maybe?
Who nowadays even wears fur?:confused3

I like designer clothes, but buy them at TJMaxx and Marshalls.

But I think the OP is desiring the really, really expensive clothes and wears used stuff because its the only way she can afford them-which completely creeps me out.(Wearing used clothes)

As far as jewelry-no way I'd buy that used-unless it was from an antique store that specializes in it.

I am COMPLETELY creeped out. You just spent a LOT of time reading my posts. I got that fur for Christmas and that was 8 months ago. Were you just stalking me or looking for something else you did not like? You are that interested in my life...:rotfl2:

The fur was an amazing gift for me. I am AWAYS cold, My house can be 80 degrees and I have a sweater on. It is how I am built. The fur is the warmest thing I have ever worn. I could care less who wears fur, I do when it's cold out and it keeps me warm.

So you are creeped out by anyone that goes to a consignment store or a thrift store? Guess all the stuff I donate to my Hope Line Thrift store (who runs a halfway house for battered women) I should just throw away?

Because for people who buy it NEW it is a status symbol.

So if you buy something new it's because you want to show off but if you buy it used it means you just really like it? A new LV has that tacky logo all over it the same as a used one does. There is no difference. Matter of fact, every single one of the brands OP listed are easily recognizable from a mile away or are tagged with their logo/brand/signature style in very obvious ways. Those don't go away when you buy them used.

And unless you're buying a leather bag Coach is no where near one of the "finer things in life."

This sounds like a difficult situation. OP, I am sorry you are upset. I think I would be, too, if I bought something "special" and found out that I didn't get what I thought I was buying.

However, I also agree with the PP that it's a common "scam" to buy something designer, then return a fake. My aunt is a manager at Marshalls and sees it with the nicer handbags they sell there.

If the store owner is convinced that her stuff is authentic, then I'm sure she thinks you're a scam artist. I would bet that her store return policy prevents returns to avoid a scam situation. Even though I don't think you're trying to scam the store owner, you might be out of luck.

This might be an expensive "lesson learned." I am sorry. Perhaps in the future, you could ask (any) consignment owner to put an item on hold for you so you could research the authenticity a little bit more before you buy.

It is impossible that I could be scamming her this was a used bracelet it would have be nearly impossible for me to take a new fake and get it worn in such a way that could be returning a fake.

I think she is worried that now she is stuck with a bracelet she can't sell. She takes consignments, trades and flat out buys stuff so she could be stuck.

I have said it before it's a good fake. I did not have a magnifying glass with me, I went in there to bring her some things and saw it, it was an impulse buy.

In the whole world of high end consignment their reputation is in the merchandise is verified to be what they say it is.

I am not going to stop consigning, i will just go back to the store I have used for years.

I think it's none of anyone's business what I wear or why I want to wear it or who bought it for me.

I have a Disney fund because my hard and fast rule is no salary money goes there. It's usually extra earned money, saved somehow or from outside sources like the consignment store or ebay. If I did not do that we would be like half of America in debt up to our ears because we LOVE Disney and go as often as we can!

Quick, somebody needs to tell Dame Helen Mirren that she's skeevy! :rotfl2:

(She's a noted thrift store shopper and quite open about it.)

Honestly, do you think that those clothes from Marshalls and TJMaxx haven't already been next to the skin of 20 other women before you buy them? The only way 'round it is to hire a dressmaker.

Nothing skeevy about the thrifts; they're green, and I don't worry about checking the lists to see if that store or label uses slave labor to make their clothes (in fact, a lot of thrifts train folks who really, really need some job experience).

And then, when I want something I want to last 3 or more years, like a high end purse (or even the latest trend like both pairs of Tom's I bought, thanks to the DIS:rolleyes:) I feel no guilt about my splurge.

:lmao:
Katespade-HOW did you do that?

To the OP-I went to your username and profile and looked at threads you started-was just wondering what othere consignment threads you had.
Maybe you can get the DIS to eliminate that feature-since it creeps you out

Just to clarify, I don't think anyone was accusing YOU of trying to scam her. Just that people do scam store owners like that which is why she may have a policy regarding returns/be hesitant about it.

Nothing is secret once it's said online.

it was not a secret and I am aware of that but that someone would put that kind of time into reading my back posts.

I see people do that a lot and I just think it's a little stalker like to go back read through everything they have said looking for something else about them you do not like!

If that is how she spent her Saturday night well, I hope she enjoyed it!

I just don't buy something second hand if I am only buying it because it is a certain brand. Actually I don't buy anything anyway just because its a certain brand.

I think lesson learned.....if you want to be sure you are displaying a certain label, buy it directly from the designer.

found a new store on Craigslist that specializes in Louis Vuitton.
You found out about the store by its advertising on Craig's list.

enough said

I would be suspect of any store claiming to sell authentic, high end, verified designer items that advertises on Craigs List.

Caveat Emptor

But I do feel for you, what with the Doctor, the neighbor stealing your daughter's Itouch, fake jewelry, being accused of the purple Ralph Lauren shirt in your siggie not fitting well, you do seem to encounter a larger share of drama. A little retail therapy is always a bit fun. (didn't stalk you - it was all right there in the first lines of each post on that search page.)

FWIW - I have purchased new, but second hand Manolos off of e-bay before. However, I acknowledge that by paying a huge reduced price, I also run the risk of inadvertently purchasing a knock-off. It goes with the territory of purchasing second hand items. You are the buyer, you need to make sure you are comfortable with the purchase and accept the risks before you give over the money.

I don't think its the feature that creeps her out, its the fact that someone actually felt the need to use it that does ;)

Generally no, but for certain things, totally worth it. For example, I have a purse that I adore; I got it three years ago. It has a little corner of wear on it. I think I can go to the store and they will ship it to the manufacturer for repair. But I can also buy the purse on e-bay for X amount of dollars. If it costs me more to have the purse fixed than it would be to buy a new purse with tags attached, I'll buy it off ebay. (The store no longer carries this particular purse and other similar purses just don't have the look I want.)

Or Tom's. Tom's apparently gave the Sanford Food Bank several pairs of their shoes to sell. I heard about it and went online. They sold them via' E-bay for about $10 less than I would've paid retail. I got my shoes for a little bit less money; the Sanford Food Bank gets extra income. There are several charities who've had auctions this way that I've been notified about; if they've had something I want for a reasonable price, I've snatched it up. Everybody wins!

That's just the DIS!

Not impossible to her as she doesn't know you at all. It is entirely possible to her that you run a scam of returning fakes often and well within reason to her that you would have a used fake on hand to return. It is a common scam.

2 questions..how do you know with complete certainty that it is not authentic? Unless you took it to Tiffany or had it appraised by a professional I can also see her disregard for your personal word that it is a fake as you might like the brand and buy it a lot you are not a professional.

2nd question..did you check the store return policy? If she has a clear no return policy it really doesn't matter what you feel about authenticity as she would not be obligated to take a return because she has a policy that states she does not take returns and you agree to the return policy when you make a purchase.

I think it's none of anyone's business what I wear or why I want to wear it or who bought it for me.

Then why in the world would you devote so many wasted paragraphs and words to tell us exactly those things? :confused3
