I LOVE Tiffany jewelry and I am fortunate enough that I have a DBF that loves to buy it for me. I have several pieces one is in my signature pic! It's me it's how I am.

I deal with a high end consignment shop a few times a year. I wear a lot of high end clothing and what I don't want the following season goes to her. I usually make $300-$500 and it always goes right into the Disney fund. Never once had a problem.

I found a new store on Craigslist that specializes in Louis Vuitton. I have always wanted one but I refuse to carry a fake so I still don't have one. All I need to do is skip a Disney trip and I could have one but I can't seem to be able to do that. I recently went to this new consignment store and she had about 15 of them. They all seemed real according to my research. She also had all the other type bags, all real.

Today I brought her about 8 items. I am dumping all my Coach stuff. I figured I would use that consignment money made to buy one of the Vuitton bags she has. I was planing on bringing her a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes we would both made a nice profit on! THEY are real fur sure I saw the invoice when my DBF bought them for me!

I spotted a Tiffany bracelet and I bought it. When I went home I put it under a magnifier glass and it's fake. I called the owner up immediately. She argued with me about it. Later called me back and said she went to the Tiffany web site and that bracelet is there. YES it's a classic, doesn't mean that it is real. I spotted several differenced from he Tiffany picture and the bracelet I bought from her. It's a good fake but it's FAKE! So now I have to go back and argue my case with her. Her web site says AUTHENTIC stuff. I think she should take it back with a great big apology to me but I have a feeling that this is going to be a fight.

My argument is just because it looks like Tiffany does not mean it IS. They are quite specific on how they make their jewelry. When I called her to say it was a fake she should have said bring it in for an immediate refund.

Guess I am NOT getting a Vuitton from her, there are a LOT of fakes out there and if I could not trust her with a bracelet I don't see how I can trust a much more expensive bag, even with all the research that I have done about how to spot a fake one.

If I do not get my money back I will per sue it with my bank and I will be the biggest mouth about how you can't trust the validity of her stuff! I am really angry about this! Not only will she lose a good customer she will lose a great consigner. Her store is a lot easier for me to get to so I decided to give all my business to her.

I know some of you are not going to get this. A few will!

I agree with you. I don't mind buying knockoff, but when I buy it, I know that its knockoff. I don't want think I'm buying genuine (even at consignment prices) just to find out that it was knockoff, KWIM? And if this is the lady's trade in her consignment store, it would seem that she would want to protect her good name (and, it sounds like too, your lucrative patronage :) ) and refund what you paid for your knockoff item.

Hope it works out for you.

I'm sorry this happened to you but honestly, I am not someone who needs to have high end products. I am sure others will express this sentiment also and probably not politely. Sorry about that.

Since this is the first time this has happened to you with this store do you really need to cause her so much trouble over this one object? I would consider how she handles it and realize it must be difficult to evaluate so many products. I hope you can resolve this so you can both continue to do business.

You'd have to equate it to going to -maybe a pawn shop?- and purchasing a diamond ring just to find out that it was cubic zirconia or something. The value comes with the name, though, not necessarily the metal or the stone when dealing with something like Tiffany. But certainly, if you are purchasing something that you think is genuine, just to find out its not, you would probably feel just as duped as the OP. And probably be just as PO'd.

I would take it to a jeweler that is an expert in Tiffany and have them certify that it is fake before I go accusing and threatening law suits. That way you can go in calmly, armed with an outside expert opinion and ask to return it for a full refund.

And next time, when purchasing jewelry from anybody but the dealer, I would bring that jewelers loop with me to see if it is real before purchasing.

oh I completely understand that not everyone cares about high end stuff. I don't judge anyone for that and I hope they do the same for me!

My problem is she argues with me on the phone and then called me back a few hours later to argue some more.

What I said was I will bring it in with a magnifying glass it's easy to see the flaws.

If she refunds my money no harm no foul, it's a good fake and it was a rookie mistake by her to let that go by but live and learn.....right!

If she resists I will go further. It's the principle of the whole thing. Her business is built on selling legitimate objects. I trusted that, got it under my magnifying glass and saw otherwise.

I would say that part of the issue is companies knocking off this stuff but how to stop them? My Sister was given a Tiffany necklace from her boyfriend she is a LOT younger than I am she was thrilled. One look at the box and it came with....fake. I am sure her 21 year old boyfriend had no idea either!

I never told her!

I would look at picking my stuff back up and taking it to the person you trust.

If she's going to boast that it's the real deal, she better go to every length to make sure it's the real deal. I would also chatter with her to find out how she identifies the real ones from the fake ones. If she can't give you specifics, then avoid her like the plague.

You should also write some reviews of your transactions on as many sites as you can, like Yelp and Google. First customer reviews like that are going to make or break it for this woman.

Just because a person likes expensive stuff, doesn't mean they know everything about it. There's just way too many fakes out there, and it takes more than the average person to identify these.

Gingerjay, I do understand about consignment. I think if you are buying something of high value you take a chance unless you are getting it from the original maker. This is NOT meant to be a rude reply. Honestly. I guess if it is important enough for me to have something high end, I wait for it to be on sale. I do that with my good leather purses and buy them at Macy's usually. If I got a knock off from them you can bet I would be livid.

I think taking it to a jeweler for assessment is a great idea.

What happened to you is exactly why I would never buy from a consignment store. If I'm buying designer anything it is straight from the source or a well known store that carries the brand. Sorry this happened to you but maybe this is one of those lesson learned situations.

This is the reason I don't buy high end merchandise like Tiffany used there's just too many fakes out there.

Take it to Tiffany. They will tell you if it is a fake or not. THEY will pursue her if she is selling fakes. Then you have stepped out the suing her issue.

It is also a rookie mistake not to verify high end stuff like that before you walk out of the shop. It is actually a fairly common scam to buy a piece and then trying to return a fake claiming that when you got it home you discovered the problem.
When you return the item to her, she probably doesn't have anyway at all to verify it is the exact same piece you walked out with.

Many reputable places will accept no returns at all because of scams like that. When she is arguing with you, she might be trying to avoid losing her shirt to scam artists. After all, she doesn't know you any better than you know her.

In complete agreement with the PP. Tiffany will go after her for re-selling fakes and affecting their brand.

very true... the store owner thinks she is being scammed..
buyer beware....

!

So you sell your high end gifts to make $$?
If i was your Boyfriend, I'd be ticked off:sad2:

I didn't read anywhere in her post that she wanted to SUE the lady, just wanted to pursue the issue with the CC company for a refund.

Sometimes browsers will automatically correct a word, or she picked the wrong word under spellcheck.

This exactly! I don't blame her for not being receptive to your claims to be honest. I would also check to see what the store policy is..it's entirely possible she does not return items and that is on you not her as you agree to those terms when you make a purchase at an establishment.

Did that happen with the fake Rosetta stone stuff you were selling?
;)

I would say thats pretty crappy customer service and if she insists something that is fake is real she doesn't seem to be an expert on the products she sells if you so easily found out the item was a fake. I would get your money back and if there are websites that review businesses in you area I would make a post about it. If someone is going to be selling high end products they have to know what they're talking about,

Is this post a joke?

If you're worried about fakes why not just buy one at Tiffany? Also, you can bring any LV item to an LV store to be authenticated.
