So I picked up what I thought was a FAKE Coach watch at a thrift shop. Its pretty and I'd never buy one that was real :rolleyes1 so paid $1 for it :)

Had it in my purse so when in Penneys, tried to get the battery changed. The woman said it seemed to be a REAL Coach watch!! And she wouldn't attempt to replace the battery because of it! :confused3

So since I've never had a real Coach, what now?

How can I tell if it's really a Coach? Take it to a jeweler? Ok that sounds like a DUH question LOL but its early here and I won't have a chance to go until Monday anyway, so please give me your thoughts.

:goodvibes

take it to any Coach store and ask them if the could change the battery. I'm pretty sure that they can tell right away if it's real or fake.

Ok. Can't believe I didn't think of that but it IS early here :rolleyes1

But how embarassed will I be if they say its a fake? Its not like I'm gonna buy something there to redeem myself,,,

I'm sure they get these questions everyday. Don't be embarassed.

if you go on the purse forum they have a section call Authentic or not( not exactly sure of the wording.)You could post a pic,and people will try to identify it for you.

I have a watch by Raymond Weil and the usual places in the mall won't change the battery in it for liability reasons. They told me to take it to a jeweler. I didn't want to do that, so I finally found a store called It's About Time, that will change the battery out for me. Batteries for this watch are more than regular batteries, but much cheaper than having to go to a fine jewelry store to have the battery changed.

Type coach watches in your google search bar and you will see lots of options for repair (local) and battery replacement. I did anyway.

Or frequently there are small watch repair stores in big malls or strip malls. I've taken several really nice watches to those and they've always been able to help me. No need to be embarrassed, they've seen it all.

Even if it is a real Coach watch, I don't understand why she wouldn't change the battery in it.

It's not like a Coach watch is an expensive watch.

Take it to a jewelery store and they will change the battery for you.

Coach watches are made by Movado. From what I understand, Movado batteries can only be changed by authorized Movado jewelers. I don't own a Movado so I am not sure.

I once had a Guess watch. I tried the Walmart, Target and Macy's and none would change battery for me. Guess is even cheaper than Coach.

I've since given up wearing a watch. I now use my cellphone for time, :)

It's not hard to change a watch battery. You need a really tiny screwdriver to pop the back off and change out the battery. Snap the back back on and your done. I've always changed my own.

The box stores don't allow their employees to change them anymore because the customer could cry damage and the store would be liable. They used to change them but haven't for a long time now.

I have always taken my watch to a jeweler to have the battery changed. My watch is only a $300 watch though and they charge me $8 to change the battery.

in case its real, FYI, http://service.movadogroup.com/coach/about.cfm
if you can not find a place to cheaply change it the watch will quickly become expensive over its life. all you really need is a watch specialist who has the tools to take it apart and properly put it back together (many watches need to be sealed when the back is put back on to prevent/air water from getting in).

i guess its a lesson learned that sometimes when you decided to purchase illegal counterfeit goods they turn out to be the real thing and people treat them as valuable. ;)

Better safe than sorry. I've got an ESQ by Movado and I just take it to a jewelry store and they only charge like $10. I dont trust the Walmart yahoos to do it right. (even though you dont have to be a rocket scientist to change it :rotfl: But "oh we dont do those "fancy watches" here. as I was told.

Frequently there are such places in your city or town, too - tiny little almost hole-in-the-wall watch repair shops downtown that have been in business for years. Support your local independent merchant ;).
