Fabric Pens?

I don't know if there is a different forum that I need to pose this question, but you all seem to be amazing.

I am taking 8x8 fabric squares with embroidery hoops to hold them taut to collect signatures. I want to then print pictures on printable fabric once we get home and put it all together in a quilt for him.

What brand/size/texture pen has anyone used before? Or does every one use permanent markers? When having them sign hats/ t-shirts ect.

The workers in the craft store said they wouldn't last. I am going to use my scraps and do some test runs, I'll heat set them and wash them a few times with clickies!
