Extreme couponer arrested for stealing coupons

I picked my Sunday paper up at the grocery a couple of weeks ago only to get home and discover that someone tore two of the coupons out of it. Seriously!

It wasn't for something I use, so I wasn't too mad...just :confused3

my favorite part of the interview is where she admits that she stole all the papers before....but she was moving! and then says its inconvenient to be facing the charge. it's like going to the foodstore and opening 50 boxes of cereal to get the toys inside, and saying well yeah but i paid for one box.... you just can't logic with some people.

It is getting insane! Someone here was arrested for bringing 100 copied internet printable coupons. I used some the other day and the cashier looked at every one. Now I know why!

As for vacuum sealing, that wouldn't work, either. Apparently some coupon books were in pkgs. of Charmin at a local Target and someone went through all the pkgs. and tore them open to get them out!

I'm all for saving money for my family, but stealing and dumpster diving are NOT in my playbook!!!

Coupon stealing happens alot in my town. My poor husbad has to stand and go through the papers at the gas station to make sure the coupon inserts are in there. I will never put my money in a machine again:sad2: It makes me so upset to waste my money.

You know, at some of those small convenience stores and gas stations, the OWNERS take the coupon inserts out (they come in on Thursday) themselves. They have someone clip the coupons and then turn them into the companies or a coupon service place for the redemption value. I wonder how much trouble THEY would be in if they got caught???? I know I never buy the paper at my local 7-11 because NONE of the Sunday papers (and there are 3 local papers) ever have the coupons in them -- and I grab the paper from the bottom of the pile, the top, the middle, etc to check! I stopped going there Sunday mornings because of this. Now, I have to go to the supermarket or Walgreen's to get an entire paper!

That just happened at a local store here. The owner is going to jail, maybe even prison for it since it involved theft of thousands of dollars--all in little penny increments per coupon.

Proof that mental illness is alive, well, and breeding in the states...

Actually, I don't think that's a fair assessment. Granted, I would never "prepare" for more than a year, and am, in reality, far short of that. But you know, for Mormons, preparing to provide for your family for a year is a religious mandate.

I just wanted to reiterate that not all "preppers" are crazy, or take it to those lengths.

I almost never have any luck with coupons, because we always buy store brand if it's available. I have a credit card for that store that I pay off every month, and if you buy store brand there, you get three points on the card. The points add up to free groceries gift certificates.

On top of that, the other thing that's really helped me save is the tip to read the 'price per ounce' noted on the shelf tags. It's a really quick way to help you compare apples to oranges, when things are of different sizes. And there have been times that the store brand was actually not the cheapest, too! So I always check it.
