Express Luggage service with rental car?

no...i think they DID report to the desk, but my TA said something about the bus driver scanning something when you get on...see our issue is that i'll have DH's bags, so 2 people on the bus with 3 people's bags, i just wanted to make sure that all of our bags would get on, even though HE will be getting the car at alamo....
i completely understand your point and think that for an extra fee maybe Disney should think about offering that service. I just dont think that it would be such a good idea now, and why risk your luggage being left...

oh btw, my TA said that they had to go and GET the luggage, disney would not send it. :confused3

Thanks again Gina for the info. I really WOULDN'T mind paying at all, since I think the 'Don't touch your bags from checkin to your hotel' is such a cool service. I guess I'm just disappointed with the illogic of not being able to use 'half' of the service they're offering me for free without using the slow bus service.

TJ, no problem...i just dont want you to have to GO BACK for your luggage the next day!!! (think of what you'd feel like in dirty clothes..lol)
I guess Disney's logic is the ALL or NOTHING way. Like i said, we are going to use it, just cuz ALAMO takes forever to get the car, and I just dont want to sit around with a 3 year old...oohhh perish the thought! lol
That time of night, maybe one of your should get the car and the other wait for the bags...that can make it a little easier...MCO i think is one of the slowest as far as baggage claim!! Have a good time anyway! :teeth:

I find MCO pretty fast with the luggage compared to other airports. Many times at MCO the luggage is already going around by the time I get to baggage claim.

I think you're missing the point ... its about UNACCOMPANYED Bags

you know ... bombs and terrorists?

Airlines and disney cant be transporting a bunch of bags without owners. Who knows what could be in them. Its why the ask you if your bags have been out of your possession.

Disney isnt try to be difficult ... Its a safety issue ... yours and mine.

So .. either split your party or travel with your bags.

The airlines no longer ask if the bags have been out of your possession

okay ... but is sending bags without owners through airports and into WDW still a valid concern?

There has been repeated discussion about this queston for months on the Transportation Board.
The answer is NO, you can not use DME for luggage transfer only.
Why - Because this is how it was designed and it is how it operates.
As others have stated, they scan your documents twice - once at checkin and once as you board the bus. If you do not scan at both of these points, your luggage is not transported.
You can ask at the DME check-in desk, but why are you willing to waist your time doing this, when time and a late arrival is your issue?
I don't understand.

I son't know what answer is going to satisfy you. Numerous people here have stated that DME is not a luggage transfer service. Yet you still question as to why not. The people here don't know..we can all guess that it's because they don't want a bus full of luggage and no people..if they wanted to provide a luggage transfer service don't you think they would have split thoses components up? If it really is such as hassle to wait for luggage, carry your bags onto the flight. I realize that with large families/large suitcases that is not always feasable...but really how difficult is it for one person to ait at baggage claim while the other gets the rental car. I think that's how people used to do it in the old days before DME.

I'm sorry to sound bitter, but it seems that if someone came on here and said.."I did it..I did not ride the bus and my luggage was delivered to my room." that is the only way you are going to stop questioning this. Of course, that's not going to happen, so just accept that and come up with a plan B.

Our last two trips into Orlando, our luggage was already coming out by the time we got to luggage pick-up. Instead of wasting time trying to convince DME to transport your bags, grab them and head for baggage claim. Even when my bag was one of the last out, I didn't wait more than 15 minutes. I bet you'd spend that much time arguing at the counter.

Hmmmm ... I hadn't thought about the security angle. I guess there's some merit to that one. Thanks for the thought Tinker.

Hopefully -- I guess I'm not expecting much of a line at the DME desk and am just looking for the quickest and easiest way to get us to the resort and into bed. I understand that it's been discussed before, but I have yet to read of anyone with firsthand info. Gina's helpful info from her TA is the closest I've found. If you're aware of a firsthand account, I'd appreciate your help with finding it.

Srfrgrl -- What's wrong with hoping for firsthand info? If someone said 'I tried but the DME desk person made me retrieve my bags and take them with me.' then that would also answer the question.

Like I mentioned above, the FP system is designed to operate with a designated return window, but most of us will use late FPs because we know that we can. I don't find asking this question about DME to be at all unethical, but I apologize if others view it that way.

I wondered if someone would point this out. The airlines don't put a bag on a flight if you don't get on the plane and I don't think Disney is going to do it on their buses either.

Shouldn't this be on the transportation board? It has nothing to do with theme parks.

We always split the group. 1 person goes to get the car (we usually use an on-site rental company) and the others the bags. By the time we have the car rental settled the other has the bags and we are off to the Kingdom.

Maybe you should have your husband take the kids to get the car, you get the bags and by the time everyone is done, you are on the way to the car and out of the airport :)

My goal is not to cheat any system. Am I asking for a service for free, for which others are paying? This is NOT like the age-old 'Can I reuse my refillable cups?' question. It's much more like the 'Can I use my FastPasses after their expiration time?' question. If you consider using late FastPasses cheating the system, then I respect your position.

Actually, it's like neither situation.

Disney's Magical Express is transporting YOU, whether you have checked luggage or not. If you happen to have checked luggage, they will also and separately transport your luggage BECAUSE they are transporting you. The purpose of DME is to get the GUEST directly to the Disney Resort, NOT the luggage. As I said before, if you don't want to hassle with going to baggage claim, waiting for your luggage then hauling it all the way across the street to the rental car, you can ship your stuff down in advance - either via a freight service like Federal Express or UPS, or through a company that specializes in shipping luggage.

Disney did NOT create DME to transport luggage.

I prefer to look at it that DME is intended for my luggage and I just happen to be there too. Disney did NOT create DME to transport people! ;>)

Wow!
Reading this thread reminds me of my HS days on the debate team.
I think your question has been answered.
I am sorry it was not the answer you wanted.
Accept the fact that Disney has reasons why they will NOT transport luggage until the guests have been checked in and loaded on the bus and are on their
way to thier resort.
Have fun at Disney!
