Explosions and shootings in Paris

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news.../?postshare=8231447766977268&tid=ss_tw-bottom

This is worth a read. Many people are seeing some pretty stunning parallels between the anti-Jewish sentiment during WW2 and what's happening now w Syrians.

I don't think you can compare the two. People may of been anti-Jewish out of pure prejudice. The Jews were no threat to anyone. People in this country are not against the Syrians because they are Syrian, they are concerned with extremists being brought into the country with these refugees. Americans are scared, and they should be.

Instead of seeing the parallels, too many are pleased that pols in states are "just saying no." I was shocked when a local TV station interviewed a Syrian immigrant business man who is pro-Assad and wanted other Syrians kept out because they were anti-Assad.

Americans should be asshamed of their religious prejudices in the late 1930s though the early 1940s and today too.

It's not prejudice, it's fear of extremists coming in with these refugees. Americans are scared, rightfully so.

What's your source on the ambulance? TV news reported nothing was found.

I read about the ambulance too.

I found this in an article on USA Today:

"German media initially reported that a truck, possibly loaded with a bomb and disguised as an ambulance, was found near the HDI Area in Hannover and that the intention may have been for it to go off near or inside the stadium. But no explosives were found, Boris Pistorius, Lower Saxony's interior minister, said."

No, that wasn't said during WWII, it was said during the great depression.

What we need is to understand that having belief systems not based on logic and reason and based on stories written thousands of years ago, and then fighting to the death over those stories is severely hindering the progress of the human race.

You're right, March 4 1933.

IMO it's vile enough to come here and dismissively refer to the belief systems of millions of people of a multitude of traditions as merely illogical fantasies based on stories written thousands of years ago. To then have that statement quoted at least twice as if it isn't offensive to all people who believe in peaceful coexistence and mutual respect is incomprehensible to me.

Wow, that's good news if accurate.

Did they say if Abaaoud was one that was arrested, or was he killed?

In the case of our state, with the quotes I provided above, what was unreasonable or constituted "childish" behavior in your opinion???

Can you tell me what quotes you provided? I have read several pages of this thread which were above this quote a few times now trying to figure out what you are referring too, and I must be blind or too asleep because I can't seem to figure it out.

Though I would also kind of expect that, whatever quotes you mean and whichever state you live in, the part of my quote that you deleted probably addressed it. The federal government does not need assistance from states to move in refugees. States can make things more difficult, but they can not alter the outcome. I think that trying to throw up roadblocks and make things difficult because you dislike an outcome is childish, and that there are more effective ways to share their concerns than the types of statements I have seen.

It's all over now, there is currently no news on identification.

There are rumblings Congress is going to draft legislation to block the refugees resettling anywhere in the US.

Only unclear as information has not been released on anyone's identity yet.

Remember alot of this information is quickly being translated from French to English, so it's not always clear when statements are released
JMO-I think the French will be very cautions about releasing any information about him quickly for two reasons:
1. They would want to verify beyond question IF it is him. (DNA)
2. IF it is, they would want to be prepared for any potential reprisals after the info is released.

Agreed on both counts.

I have a confession to make. Part of me wants to abandon my civilized principles and hopes tight lips are being practiced to keep people in the dark on this so they can exert pressure on a captive "mastermind" without a public outcry.

I totally agree...And I think after recent events the French would support whatever means necessary, for as long as necessary.

And I really couldn't blame them, yet I want to be careful at the same time not to abandon my principles and become a barbaric waste of human flesh like these enemies of peaceful civilization.
