EXPIRED: Part ONE of 2015 CLUB LEVEL (CL) INFORMATION and HELP Thread DO NOT POST HERE!!!

As abk96 posted, there is main building CL (Royal Palm Club) and outer building CL (Sugar Loaf). Just wanted to add that there are a few deluxe rooms in each CL and are a bookable category in RPC, but can only be requested in SL (not a bookable category in SL).

Yes. You will either book a room in the Main Building or Outer building (Sugar Loaf) club level.

Thanks :) I saw a post somewhere that indicated that CL rooms were in all building, but I can not find the post now. Thanks a bunch for helping me.

Also, do I have this correct:
When we arrive at GF someone will take us to check in at a CL check in desk.

When do we get unload our bags from the car? Do I call bell services to assist us when we are ready?

We drive and I use a roof rack, so I will not be ready to "unpack" the rack asap. Sorry...I am trying to get an idea of what to expect.....CL is a bit intimidating to me....

You're welcome :).

The main building is all CL (RPC) and SL is an outer building that is keyed entry, with all rooms being CL as well.

Someone from CL should be there to take you up to CL (if staying RPC) or to the SL building to check you in. Sometimes if the resort is busy, you will check in at the front desk, but that's only if things are very crazy and hectic with alot of people coming in. We usually arrive by a car service and just go in with our luggage to check in, but there should bellmen outside to help with your luggage.

Hope this helps and I hope you have a great time as the GF is an amazing resort :goodvibes.

Thanks Mickeynut1 :-). We are surprising my mom with this stay, so I have a great deal of anxiety over staying at a new resort , stay CL and keeping the surprise. :-). Thanks for help!

You're very welcome. What a great surprise and such a nice thing to do for your mom :goodvibes. You won't regret the GF as it's a beautiful resort!! Try not to stress, everything will be fine ;).

I haven't read the entire thread, so please excuse me if this is a repeat question.

I know we are not allowed to tip the CL staff, but that some folks have brought along gifts for them. I was thinking of bringing some local treats to hand out at the end of our stay. Any idea how many gifts I might need?

TIA
:goodvibes

I would bring about a half dozen for individual CM, and then if your wish one larger chocolate or hometown treat for CM to share at CL check in area. Of course if your want to bring more than a half dozen then I am sure it will be welcomed : )

If you write IPO with a room request, do they typically reply with an email or do they just update your reservation with the request and not reply? I don't want to nag them, but I sent an email day before yesterday and haven't heard anything back. I did get the automated response thing, though. Just wondering if I can assume it's all taken care of or should I write again to make sure they got the last one??
Glad it all worked out for you. I sent Ipo my room requests for SL and they took about 24 hrs to confirm that they have noted my request. I asked for a marina view, since when we move out of SL to regular resort GV room I requested Boca pool view. This way we'll get different views.

We've stayed at both resorts, although CL at just the WL, which we loved. Everything about it was great from the food offerings to the amazing CL CMs. With that said, I have read nothing but great things about AKL CL and hope to try it on a future trip. Good luck, but you really can't go wrong with either one as they are both great places to stay.

AKL CL is amazing. ::yes:: I like the way the lounge is set up better then WL. It feels like you're sitting along a hallway at WL to me rather then in a lounge. But I've only had breakfast at WL CL when we were Flag Family. I hear good things about it.

Hi Sue M :wave2:

You're going to have an amazing time ::yes::

Can't wait to hear all about it :goodvibes
Thank you :goodvibes. My (adult) daughters still think we are at Poly  I didn't tell them I switched. We did a split stay last August GF/YC and oldest daughter didn't want to leave GF! Can't wait to surprise them!

You're welcome :).

I'll be so sad if we don't get the CL check in. It's so much nicer sitting at the CL desk then standing at the lobby counter.

Hi everybody, is there any reason to do online check in for GF RPC? I'm paying for TPV already, so there's nothing to request. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this situation. Thank you!

Hey guys :) Just finished my full review of the YC CL! :goodvibes You can check it out here: https://erika_murphy.silvrback.com/disney-s-yacht-club-resort

I miss it so much!!!!!!!!!:sad::sad:

Hi Erika!! Loved your report!! I've read a few of them and really appreciate the time and details you put into them!!

I wanted to ask you.. we'll be staying at BC for the first portion of our split stay and am assuming the bus issues you mentioned applying there as well. We have one pre rope drop ADR for CP and am wondering if you think we'd be better off just taking a cab and not even trying to use the buses that day?? On our other days, we're not going to be crunched for time, so I'm not worried about how long it takes (unless it's hot and we're out in the heat waiting on buses) but that one morning would be important.

:)

Thanks for your input :). We love AKL and I have read nothing but great things about CL, so I am hoping to try it next year. We are thinking of staying Poly CL in July, so I'm thinking of doing 2 nights AKL CL prior to that. One of the things I love about WL CL is how the seating is arranged around the railing, which is similar at AKL, although it does look like AKL CL is more of a "lounge" (like you mentioned). Any suggestions on room requests to not be so far from the lounge?

I don't think CL guests get checked in a lot at the front desk, but I do know it has happened. With that said, I think you'll be fine as I don't think it happens all that frequently ;).

I can't help as we don't do OCI, but I wanted to say I hope you have a great trip. GF RPC is my favorite as everything about it is amazing :wizard:.

Um, nice idea but chocolate and Florida summer travel are not a great combination. I suggest something other than chocolate. It melts or turns white very easily.

Also, well...I've worked in customer service. If someone I don't know gives me food, I'm not inclined to eat it unless I'm certain it is a sealed commercial product- like a can of soda.

It may be tricky to figure out how to give out gifts, because you won't have the same staff every day. A simple thank you really goes a long way. Beyond that, thank you notes are great, especially thank you notes from kids. Those are the kinds of things I appreciated the most. Truly.

Beyond that...well I suppose if it was something truly unique to your hometown area. Like a pen from the college where you work, or a handcrafted item that's unique to your area.

OK,

I am breaking down the price and it looks like we can do GF CL for about $500 more than our current Boardwalk CL reservation. We are going during F&W so I thought that Boardwalk would be fun, however, I am wondering if GF CL would be better due to easy MK access as well as the monorail. I had thought that Boardwalk would be nice due to the boat going to DHS - but I'm not sure it is worth it now.

What do you think? Boardwalk or Grand Floridian?

We've done both. You really can't go wrong at any CL. I personally like split stays because it is nice to get a change of scenes.

When we stayed at GF, we stayed in the outer building CL, but I was able to walk through the main building. (so I've seen it).

In one sense, the food at all CL's is very similar. I've pretty much seen them all. They each have slight variations. I'll give a slight nod to GF for best food, because I'm a big fan of plain yogurt. The only places I've seen it are GF and I think Business class at CSR. Go figure?

The food options at the Boardwalk were also excellent. Though Kouzzina is closing soon - so the food will likely be changing a bit when it does. The odd things is, I loved the Greek salads at BWK CL, but we really disliked our dinner at Kouzzina. Flying Fish is great. As it happens....our room was the very furthest room in the resort. We were not close to the main pool, or especially close to the lounge- but we were close to staircase that lead to the quiet pool area. Normally, we'd pick the main pool, but the quiet pools at BWK is really beautiful! It is very peaceful, and it has a hot tub! We were so glad we tried it!

Both resorts offer the benefit of great location. In some ways, I give a slight edge to CR and BC as our top two overall faves, but you really can't go wrong at any. Each has tiny pros and cons. (Pool, theming, transportation, staff, food, parking) Most food is pretty similar. I can't say exactly why, but when I imagine myself at WDW, it's one of those two places.

What worked really well for us when doing a split stay was to focus on HS/Epcot while at the BWK, then focus on MK/AK while staying in the MK area.

I'm thinking about renting points for a AKV CL room. I've been told that not all CL villas are savannah view. Can anyone confirm this and if so does anyone know how many do/don't have savannah view. TIA

JRJ,

I just posted in regard to another post, but here's more to your broader question.

Truly, the food, in my opinion, at all CL's is quite similar.
At all resorts, breakfast looks pretty similar.
If you are looking at photos, and see variation, it may just be what Disney calls 'seasonal'. Like maybe some day s they can't get strawberries, and substitute melon. Just like all over WDW: melon and red grapes are pretty common. Berries are more rare. Many CL's put outa tray of fruit, but sprinkle a few berries on top as a garnish. yogurt cereal, pastries, etc.

Appetizers are also mostly pretty similar: a few hot starchy/meaty items (mini meatballs, skewers, DUMPLINGS- esp fried ones, maybe mini pizzas),a veggie plate (think raw broccoli, grape tomatoes, celery), a cheese plate (cheddar, blue, and a soft cheese, 5 grapes as a garnish), a cracker plate, rolls, beer, wine. Often cold salads- like caprese, or something chopped with olives. BC has tiny lobster salad portions one night a week. (or did), CR also has a seafood salad one night a week. Some also have something like California rolls one night a week, maybe a tiny bit of raw tuna.

I might give GF a slight bump for quality of offerings...but food is not the only aspect of CL that matters. One thing I dislike at GF, is how far away the self parking lot is. It's across the street from the resort! It's quite bit further than most. Poly next door, has much better parking.

Let's see: AKL - great view in lounge, very good food (our stay was short and long time ago). Rooms are a little smaller, our room was not on same floor as lounge, LOVE AKL on the whole, rooms slightly dark, animals huge plus, transportation small negative, best beer - we really need to go back!

BWK - great food, great lounge, no view from lounge, main pool just so-so. I thought I'd like it, but it was too deep, too busy. Resort is very spread out, so it's a long walk across resort, very close to HS/Epcot/Swan/Dolphin, beautiful theming, very clean. Also, I don't know how to say, but the layout is such that the staff lets you in/out of lounge area.

BC/YC- love bright rooms, love pool, great staff, lounge not quite as deluxe as others, but overall excellent food, lounges have no view, great to HS/Epcot/Swan/Dolphin, great landscaping

Remember Piccabu is open all night! (Dolphin)

WL- great price, rooms too brown, smaller rooms, St CL can equal room w/view, Staff very helpful - but almost too eager sometimes, only resort to lay out strict rules ( THIS tv is only for cartoons. This tv is only for adult news.), food was tasty, but by far the least fancy. Lots of stew and cobblers. Of all the lounges, in that sense the food was unique. Tasty, good- but less fancy, appetizers had nice salads, small pool, close to amenities at Ft. WL

GF- outer - (which seemed similar to inner) - best quality food offerings in the sense that it was the only to offer full range of milk (0%, 1%, whole) and plain yogurt. Most offerings though are American food. Staff good, but not exceptional, has slightly different (or did) toiletries than the others. nothing too different - green H2O.

CR -Atrium - food very good, most boring theming of any resort, nice view from lounge, staff mixed- sometimes excellent, sometimes indifferent, old building!, elevators break down frequently, many folks confused by layout (so you end up acting as tour guide for folks who can't find monorail/dining), often check-in done at front desk, convenient to MK, good self parking lot, okay to Epcot- far from WS! Will see business guests.

(CR - top floor- similar to 14th floor, but smaller. food is replenished less. It has been remodeled since we stayed. )

Actually getting to the WS for dinner is far from all the monorail resorts.

Poly- great view in lounge, food is good, lots of skewers, unique beer, staff was just so-so, lounge is BIG- so can be noisy, transportation just okay - to use monorail- you must go outside along uncovered walkways, then up stairs/tiny elevator for monorail. (elevator very crowded w/diners too!), rooms dark, our room was not on same floor as lounge, so that was less convenient, one of few WDW resorts where we had noise from room next door- maybe just us (we like the values too!), parking great., no hot tub- but main pool has water jets (like hot tub), great theming, lottsa leis

CSR business- great value, unlike others- no coffee at 6:30am, lounge opens at 7am (the rest offer just coffee 6:30am-7am), appetizer foods are less (chips, dips, cheese), staff was excellent!, I think liquor was also less: they had beer and sangria- only CL to have sangria, Breakfast is pretty much like all others, had great fruit! Liked location, but must walk outdoors to get to lounge, parking great, they also had board games on hand, and a computer

Oh - and each resort has candy on your pillow at night w/turndown. Let's see:
chocolate: WL, CR, GF, Poly
Taffy: BC, YC, BWK
I don't recall what AKL had. No turndown at CSR.

Another thing to consider....I only did it once, and it is pricey, but each CL has or had - unique treat offerings if you look on room service offerings. (like last page) It's kind of overkill, but they often include something like chocolate covered strawberries. Each resort has a special menu. If you want some little fun treat sent to your room- and don't mind paying through the nose - it can be fun. You might end up with a chocolate Mickey or something. Maybe some have discontinued since they are encouraging guests to use Disney Floral instead.

At turndown, all resort will replace used towels.

None offer bottled water to take to the parks! that's the ONE big thing missing from all! One time, one resort did offer it (a fluke?), but only on one stay. Next time, no water!

If you are worried about cost, not that it pairs well with CL tastes- CSR is a great option. I'd stay there again any day. They just need to make Pepper Market as good as it once was. It is not quite the same as the rest, but staff was super sweet. They do not have IPO, but I can live with making my own ADR's.

I could also write another big post about how many of them deal with food allergies (though not all).

Oh, and another thing to know is generally- the lounges only have food 7am-10pm. They leave out a fruit basket (apples oranges, maybe pears), and fill the cooler with soft drinks, but the cooler drinks get taken. But some lounges close up at night, and others remain open for sitting. I'd do a solid list, but that changes over time. Lounges that can't close include CR, AKL, GF Lounges that lock up include WL, BC, CSR. (I think YC, and BWK close?) At WL the tables are still available, but no drinks.

We've more or less stayed at least once at every resort now, except ASSp, and DVC resorts. We really like variety, and Pop/AoA are great too! Every resort has pros and cons.

You could try the bus first and if you start to get nervous about the time just walk back over to the front and grab a cab. We've done that before. If you allow plenty of extra time you should be fine, but if you're running late a cab might save some stress. :)

Yes, all club level rooms have a view of the Arusha savannah, 4th floor, either on Zebra trail or Kudu trail. :) If you are on Kudu you can easily access the strairs up to the lounge on 6. If you're on Zebra you'll be closer to the elevator to get up to 6. :)

For some reason I'm not getting email notifications for this thread anymore! :scratchin
