Expensive Ebay Mistake

l need to have a little rant if thats ok  . On Sunday l won a Vauxhall car radio on Ebay, as it was a local seller he kindly agreed to drop it off at my house. When he arrived last night, he held the radio out of my reach until l handed him the money. He snatched this out of my hand, gave me the radio and then quickly drove off. When l gave the radio to DH he informs me that it looks like it was stolen :guilty: . Needless to say it doesnt work and now l am left feeling guilty that someone has had their radio stolen and also out of pocket by £34. As l didnt pay using Paypal l cannot recover this money but l just wonder how people live with themselves. On reflection he didnt look a very honest person :sad2: . This is going to be the last thing l buy from Ebay, there are just too many dishonest people trading on there.

What a shame. Sorry you were misled

sorry this has happened to you, you should report it to e-bay

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but even if you do report it to Ebay they won't do anything about it.
I sold a brand new mobile phone (unwanted gift) a couple of years ago, communicated well with the guy and he said that it was for his brothers birthday so he needed it to be posted straight away. Anyway I posted it out and the next thing you know my Paypal Account was minus £200.00 - so even if you do use paypal you aren't guaranteed that you will get your money. SO then I was £200 out of pocket and I lost my phone - then I had Paypal chasing me for the £200 as my account had gone into minus when he somehow managed to cancel the transaction when it had cleared.

I don't know how some people live with themselves. But just think what goes around comes around - he will get his eventually. There are some honest people on ebay.... I am too honest sometimes that it will cost me a sale but hey at least I can sleep at night - well when Harley isn't crying! ;)

thats really bad luck, I agree with the others though report him to ebay, it may stop someone else getting swizzled

I would also inform the Police as although you bought the item in good faith you now believe it to be stolen goods. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience :(

Claire ;)

Thats terrible. I dont like ebay to be honest mainly for the fact that people i.e friends or a duplicate user name bids on there items for sale so they get more money for it. I always look at previous items they sold and bidders :sad2:

Contact ebay if anything it should get his account cancelled and perhaps report it to the police so the police can fingers crossed get his address.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I love buying from ebay, but I agree, you do need to exercise some caution.

I take it that it was not in a box or anything?

You will need the code to get it to work, so if he has not supplied that its not fit for purpose anyway.

What is his rep on EBay? You can leave a poor feedback at least for others to see.

Yes leave a letting others know and info the police
sorry to hear this

Good point, but wouldnt it come up with the word CODE like mine does everytime I have change fuses I always take the car radio fuse out

Sorry to be a bit basic but wouldn't the first step to be to contact him via ebay to give him a chance to put it right? It may be stolen as your husband suspects but how does something 'look stolen'? If he does not respond to your contact then by all means go down the reporting route with ebay (and if necessary the police). He does sound a bit odd from your description and may be dishonest but wouldn't it be nice to give him a chance to prove you wrong on that count?

I hate hearng things about what has happened to you Racheal, it makes my blood boil  cause it puts people buying of ebay & over sites alike & then spoils it for the honest one out there.
I know it's a terrible thing to say but are these nasty people taking over cause us honest folk seem to be getting fewer.
I'm sending you a group hug tomake things better i hope this works :flower3: :grouphug: :flower3:

Thanks for the hug Goofysmate, its much appreciated. And thanks everyone for your good wishes. l have emailed the guy and he said he will refund the radio if l take it back to him. l really don't fancy setting up another meeting with this person, l will just put it down to bad experience and call it a day. There was a code with the radio but it made no difference it still wouldnt work. l could always try to get it decoded but l dont want to be driving round with a radio not knowing where its come from. We live and learn :sad1:
