Will I have any trouble on this ride? Has anyone with Vertigo ridden without any trouble? I was planning to take dramamine first. Still worried about EE and Forbidden Journey.

Are there particular motions that you are more sensitive to?
EE goes backwards in the dark for a bit - that could be bothersome. And there are a few tight curves, but that is about the worst of it.

Certain head positions.....laying flat, turning head to side while laying flat, upside down, etc

The backwards part shuffles me for about an hour. Minor stuff, but if you are very sensitive to orientation change in the dark, can be tough. For me, the fact that I am not getting visual information in that part helps.

The forward part of the ride doesn't affect me. It's a steeper faster tighter version of Big Thunder Mountain.

I get vertigo a few times a year. The last time I rode EE about 8 times in a row with no problem. That being said, I can ward my vertigo off with medicine that I carry with me 24/7. When it attacks, I'm out for the day. I never had any problem with it coming on during or after the ride.

I would suggest Bonime instead of dramamine. Bonime does not make me drowsey and seems to work better. I rode Everest and did not have a problem, and I have severe inner ear imbalance.

Bonine knocks me out for a few days that is why I cannot handle it. I also have some Phenergan (prescription) anti nausea vomiting med. It is an antihistimine for motion sickness as well. Maybe I will try that?
My vertigo is usually set off when I'm sleeping, I roll over and everything spins! I'm worried the motion and bumpiness and jerkiness of some rides with loosen those inner ear crystals that create vertigo. Not sure how much it takes to loosen them?

I rode EE for the first time in 2008. I got nauseous immediately. I rode it again later in the week and got sick again. I tried it again in 2010 with Bonine and didn't have a problem at all, even rode twice. Fast forward to Feb. 2011. I took my Bonine and tried it on a solo trip. I was immediately dizzy, stayed dizzy for a week. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with vertigo. I still have problems with it and chose not to ride it in June. I'm not sure I will ride it again, which I hate because I love the ride.

Did any other rides affect your vertigo?

Back in 08 when my daughter and I rode it 10 times straight I had to tell her I would need at least 15 min to recover I swear that vertigo kicked in during that 10th time

First time I rode this I got SUPER dizzy. I didn't know what was going on in the 'backwards in the dark' part- it felt like we were going upside down and all crazy. Then I saw the 'lights on' version... it ruined the ride for me, but you should watch it. This helps me a LOT- I no longer get dizzy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObSo3RyvEDY

Did it help you because you knew what was happening? I dont get it?

it does help me knowing - and I do take bomine -

I cannot ride Star Tours at DHS - but I can take Soarin (well until it gets to the end - there are 2 parts in Soarin that are very hard, I either close my eyes or look at the floor where the operators are controling the ride - its a struggle to stay above the vertigo)

Oddly enough none of the rides at Disney has triggered my vertigo. But I absolutely cannot walk on the wooden bridge in the MK that connects liberty square to the area by splash mountain. Something about the spacing in the boards that when I walk across them makes me extremely sick, so dizzy I almost pass out. I've had it happen in similar situations before the one at MK makes me severely ill.

I don't have any medical conditions and LOVE roller coasters. The only rides I can't do are ones that spin in a circle like teacups, and even then I can do them if they aren't aggressive spinning.

The only ride on my entire disney vacation last time to bother me in the least was expedition everest and it was completely unexpected.

I loved the ride and it was really fun until the backwards, in the dark, almost upside down part. I was completely disoriented and felt terrible. When it was over, I couldn't even see my ride photo, I had to immediately sit down and felt TERRIBLE. I sat with a frozen water bottle on my neck and face for 20 min while DH rode (we did baby swap), and by the time he got back I felt well enough to stand but felt really sick for a good couple of hours. It didn't ruin my AK day, but I will not ever ride it again!

I just watched the video with the lights on. ..... it sure felt much longer when I was on it hahaha

Anyways, I think the heat made it felt worse too. It was crazy hot the day we were there and very humid and that backwards part did me in.

It's a shame though as the ride is really fun otherwise!

I have mild "positional" vertigo, mostly when I turn my head to the side (or completely tip it forward, as if I were going to stand on my head). Didn't have problems with EE at all.

The one I'm leery of is RnR, since it goes upside down. I'm afraid it will trigger some spinning! To me, it's not worth taking a chance, even though I love RnR!!

Me too! Sometimes looking down and looking up in the sky triggers it for me. I mostly have issues when I roll over in the middle of the night. I have done a ton of rollercoasters in my day. Hulk, Dueling Dragons, all of the ones at Bush Gardens, Space MT, etc and I think those are the reasons for my vertigo. The jerky, g-force, upside motions must have dislodged the crystals in my inner ear. Now I am petrified that going on those types of rides will set me off again. I am worried about Forbidden Journey because I heard it tilts you back and then it jerks you all over the place. Yikes! I never suffered motion sickness and as I get older I am starting to suffer. Watching home videos makes me soooo nauseous. Forget video games too. I was fine on Soarin though. I felt ill on Simpsons but if I closed my eyes I can get thru it. I don't even dare go anywhere near Star Tours or Mission Space. NO WAY JOSE!

I would love to ride everest with vertigo!

Why do you think I spin around in circles with my kids? :rotfl:

You wouldn't be laughing if you actually had vertigo. It is nothing like your typical spinning around dizziness. It is the whole room around you spins and your eyes flicker like they are being spun inside your head. It makes you very ill and is very debilitating. Not funny at all.
