Expedition Everest Challenge May 5 @ 9:30 2012

Registered and resort booked! :thumbsup2

Sure wish there was a training program for the scavenger hunt... I'm a lot more worried about that than the run! :rotfl: Thinking we may need to have some Disney-junkie friends on speed-dial...

Someone posted a link to their TR from last year when they did that includes photos of the clues. It's seems a bit tricky, but doable! :thumbsup2

They are pretty leniant on times for the 5k cause there is no road closures for the race, i believe you have near an hour to complete before they will ask you to stop. Once in the scavenger hunt portion, it seems thet give you enough time to finish at own pace as that portion is opposite the party, at least in years past and that you finish before the party is over, but im sure they would just ask you to head to the finish. I just registered today, was going to wait till princess expo, but got the cast online discount for $20 off team registration, so that was a better deal. We are a coed team and will both be wearing tutus and maybe wings.

oh wow, I am SOO glad to hear this!! I am sure i will be under the time but i've been having a hard time getting dd to keep to some sort of training schedule and this month we just stopped even mentioning that she should run b/c she has SO many after hours projects to work on from school that she just doesn't have any time to just relax. Now I can just relax and not worry about getting on her case - she's a better runner than me so we'll be ok.

I agree, they seem a bit tricky but I've heard if your REALLY stuck a cast member can give you a hint.

The cast will help, they have specified clue aids, but they will help, not give you the answer, just a hint on how to figure them out. I still have my clues from last year somewhere in a drawer, i can upload them later to help get an idea of what was asked in years past.

danhockey04, thank you for all of your help! It is such a relief to know I have as much as an hour to finish.

I'll have a car there - what time should I get to AK?

Oh good - clue-solving is definitely NOT my area of expertise!

:thumbsup2 I saw a few from years past and thought, "Sure, on a fresh morning I might get that, but after running a 5K obstacle course late at night?!" :rotfl:

I was going to register my kids for the kidsrace, but then I noticed there are different age groups. Will they not be able to run together?

Also, will it be a problem if they don't speak/read English?

I'm almost certain I'm signing up. It's just me, as my husband will stay with the kids. I'm concerned about my time. I did my first 13.2 today at 3:38:37, which is a little slow.

Glad to see so many people signing up for the EE5K Challenge! :thumbsup2

Last year, the race began at 8:30pm, and racers were told to be in their corrals around 8:10pm. My husband and I drove from our resort, parked, and were waiting in the parking lot area by 7:00pm. That was too early, in my mind. I think we could have arrived an hour ahead of time and been fine. However, we didn't check a bag, which I'm sure eats up some time.

Since this race is at 9:30pm, I'm probably aiming to get there between 8-8:30pm. But really, it all depends on how much pre-race stuff you want to take in. If you're the type that wants to hear all the speeches and get a good look at all the costumes, definitely plan to get there around 8. The time flys before the race!

Good for you! I am also doing this solo! This is my 2nd runDisney event - did the 5K during Marathon weekend in January! You will have a great time.
I heard this one is a lot of fun! Hope to see you there!

Thanks Lara! I know they suggest a partner for the Scavenger Hunt...is it really necessary?

Thanks for the tip - that really helps!

I'm still on week 1 of the Couch to 5K and, at the rate I'm going, will still be on that week 1 when the EEC gets here! Oh brother....that sucker is kickin' my behind!

My mom is doing the race solo, as well, and this is what I tell her: A partner can help, because if you get stumped on a question, there's a possibility your partner can figure it out. Two heads are better than one, and all that....

However, with all the Cast Members around, and all the other excited runners, you should have no problem finding help if you need it. I had a partner last year, and we both ended up having to ask a CM for help on one of the clues.:rotfl: Then, a little later on in the race, we helped a confused runner in the right direction. As long as you're comfortable asking someone if you are stumped, you'll be perfectly all right.

(And if you don't want to keep asking other people, just stand by the CMs and listen to others talk. Everyone's so hyped, they will be shouting the answers to their teammates and/or figuring out the clue out loud.):rotfl: DH overheard the final clue's answer from someone else last year.

I'm starting that program this week, but for the first two weeks I'm just getting out and walking. I know it's going to kick by behind, too, so I just want to take a little time to get my body used to exercising before I start jogging.

Anyone know?

Disclaimer: I don't have kids, but I've watched the kids' race at EEC a couple times.

I don't think it'll be a problem if they don't read/speak English because they can just watch what everyone else is doing and follow along. I also checked the photos from last year and it looks like depending on the age of your kids, you can either do the race with them, or you can stand on the sidelines and shout help to them if needed.

To see the photos from last year, go to http://www.asiorders.com/view_event.asp?EVENTID=79500. Underneath the search box, there's a dropdown for categories where you select the Kids category.

Hopefully someone else can help with your question about the age groups.

My husband and I just signed up for the race as a fun way to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. I have done several races 95k's 1/2's and 1 marathon) but none Disney!

So I purchased the Team with 1day theme park admission. But I am unclear on whether that is one ticket for each team member or just one ticket? Does anyone know for sure?

You know, I really do not know. This is my first Everest Challenge. I have been told that some of the solo's will help out each other, as well as the CMs.

Just registered a team for DH and I!!

We went out today and got some fancy running shoes and then I walked when we got home. He jogged/walked most of it, but I think I did pretty well for not being a very active person. I walked just under 2 miles in about 33 minutes. For a first walk, I don't think it's that bad. I'm close to the 16 minute/mile pace, so getting there in the next 10 weeks shouldn't be any problem!

I got the C25K program on my iPhone that I'll be starting next week after I use this week to get used to exercising.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys as we get ready for the event!!

This will be my first Disney race. I know there are costumes in some of the other races (princess, etc), does there seem to be people that wear some type of costume at the Expedition Everest Challenge?
