Expedition Everest Challenge May 5 @ 9:30 2012

Me and my fiance are both going to be in costume, we are both wearing some sort of girlie dress costume. Might do princesses or something, we were going to do tutus, but since we own like 40 women costumes, we are just going to do one of those. Not as many in costume as other races, but there will be some. Also, I will still upload the clues from last year, gotta find them first, somewhere in my room.

By the way, love the medal for this year. Not much different, but nice touches for the 5th anniversary.

Does anyone know what the corrals are?
We have 4 people going and trying to figure out how to make sure we are all in the same corral?
Thanks!

So nice to see so many more people joining in!!! Make sure if you do a pre trip report to post the link here so we can follow along and get to know each other that way too before the race. I've had one going since Jan 1st - your welcome to pop over and hopefully say hi. you will find my link below in my signature.

I'll try to answer a few questions but i've never actually done the run before so it's just what I've heard or seen.

Some people do wear costumes for sure but not as many as other races. i've seen a picture of ppl dressed up like yetis and cheese i think. LOL

I dont know that you actually know our corral before the race?? this could be wrong but i have not heard of anyone knowing their spot before getting there and registering. I do know you show up and look at a list of names to find your bib number and then get your package by going to the spot with numbers in the same range as your bib number is.

the other questions... i'm not sure :confused3 sorry - hopefully someone that knows will speak up :)

So happy to get to know you all!! I sure hope i run into a few of you on race day :) :)

Where did you see this years medal?:confused3 i'd love to see it too :goodvibes

Does anyone know for sure if you can SKIP the obstacles? I may be running with my 60yo Dad who broke his back years ago but still has issues with it. He thinks he may only be able to do the actual run.

Thanks! :)

Corrals (at least always in the past) are done by type of team. So the first corral has historically been individuals. Last year, the second was the male-male teams. The third and fourth corrals held the male-female teams. The fifth corral was the female-female teams. And last year, since there was a mother-daughter category, that group had the sixth corral (which isn't going to be the case this year, but I still suspect that female-female teams will end up with corrals five and six). My numbers may be slightly off, but that was the basic gist, at least for the last two years.

So, unless your teams are composed of the same types of people (both teams are female-female, male-male, or male-female), you are fairly much assured not to be in the same corral. However, as with many other runs, nobody seems to mind folks moving backwards. If one team is assigned to Wave 3 but starts with their friends/family in Wave 5, that would be fine. Just don't try to go the other way around.

The medal was at the princess half marathon expo. It still has the compass on the inside with a 5 in the background. Also, the front is colored in this year and i believe there was a 5 on it too. It still has the same look and brass color, just a few touches that make it look nicer and the anniversary touches too.

I know last year, on the last obstacle, the CM was telling people they had 3 options; go over a wall, go crawl under a net, or go all the way around the obstacles.

I'm pretty sure if you explain your situation to the CMs they'll let your dad walk around all of the obstacles set up, but I don't know for sure, so don't hold me to it.

I wonder if I call if they'd tell me.. hmmm.

:thumbsup2 I saw it this weekend, too - gorgeous! Meant to get a picture, but the Expo was CROWDED and we really just needed to get out of there quickly.

We ran the Royal Family 5K this weekend and I can't say enough good things about runDisney! It was just so much fun, especially being our first race ever, and at the end, my son said, "This was GREAT - I can't wait to do the Everest Challenge next!" :yay:

Thank you!!

Like others have said, the final obstacle last year included an official "go around it" option for those who didn't want to climb or crawl. The other obstacles are very doable for most skill levels, and walking them is encouraged. I may be able to run on flat ground, but I am no hurdler or fancy footwork person, so going over tires or hay bales was not about athletics at all. I slowed down to a walk, and just stepped over those obstacles. This was true of probably 50% of the people around me. So while they are totally a fun change of pace compared to a normal 5k, they shouldn't scare anyone away.

Hi everyone! I just registered for the race and Im super excited! I was hoping to get someone to do the race with, but right now Im running solo. It will be my first race ever :) Glad to find others on here that will be doing it too!

Good for you going it alone :) Some days I almost wish I was doing it alone b/c dd is being stubborn about training and just might not be ready to handle it and I'll have to keep pushing her through the whole thing. LOL>>> And you can always get an after party ticket for someone to join you after the race anyway :) Or just chat with us DIS EE Challenge runners :)

So for some reason I just now realized this race is going on during my next trip to the World...how did I not realize THAT!?! Decisions, Decisions....

I'll be there with an 11yo though, and it's really her trip...so don't know if it's something she'd want to do...then there's the bummer that the race is the night before we leave to go home. I suspect the ME will be picking us up around 9:30 sunday morning so that would be a rough one...and then the extra $200+ to the trip fund for the team entry. So many reasons NOT to do it...but knowing there's a medal out there just within reach is driving me CRAZY!

How difficult does anyone think this would be for an 11yo anyway? (She's not mine, just very close...I'm sort of like an aunt/big sister to her) She's really into cheer and dance, so I know she has some athleticism, and she's a tiny little thing...I could probably carry her across the finish line if I had too. :rotfl2:

Quick question for past participants:

I probably already know the answer, but do they rope off the closed parts of the park during the after party? I know there are only certain sections open, but DH would love the chance to take pictures throughout the park at night. AK is never open at night anymore, and this could be his chance to get some.

On our last trip, we were able to stall our exit as long as possible and he got some really nice sunset pictures at the park. But it didn't take very long for a very nice CM to offer to walk us out. ;)

Thankfully, and obviously, EE will be open, and I'm sure he already has a million picture compositions in his mind for this ride at night. AK being open so late that night is just one very nice perk for us!! I can't wait - just 9.5 weeks to go!

I don't think this would be difficult at all for an 11yo. The obstacles are fairly simple and I think you'd have fun figuring out the scavenger hunt together.

Yes, only certain areas of the park are open during the party - I think last year it was just Asia, Dinoland, and the area of Discovery Island between Dinoland and the exit. And they won't let you walk through the other areas. I think I tried to reach the exit by cutting from Asia through Discovery Island and they wouldn't let me. I had to walk all the way back around through Dinoland. The 5k and scavenger hunt do go through the rest of the park, but spectators won't be able to get into those areas.

Here are the Everest clues I had from last year, 2011.
