I was told by someone at MS (someone who now does the exchanges, rather than booking DVC reservations) that there are two types of exchanges that the points, upon cancellation, go back to regular status, not reservation status, so that they can still be used to book DVC stays.

They are for Club Intrawest and this other one that I have never heard of. This other one can be booked on a per day basis and it has Tuscany Italy. She said that it takes 28 pts in the high season and 11 pts in November or January or something like that.

I think either Club Intrawest or this other one are mostly in Austria.

I used to think once you exchange, the points become reservation points. This is something good to know. She said that they are not on the website yet.

Is this old news or something new?

It's the exchanges through Buena Vista Trading Company. Now it's only Club Intrawest and the Cordial Group (mostly Austria and the like). There were previously a number of other resorts including HI, CA and the Northwest coast but no more. I think it's a program DVC should gear up but make it true exchanges including 7 days. It'd be pefect for DVC to run it's on mini exchange company. Add in groups like Hyatt, Hilton, Farifield, Bluegreen, Marriott, the Royals, Embassy's, Worldmark and the like.

I didn't know the points went back to regular status though, if that's true, expect it to change.
