I had never even heard of this custom until I saw a thread about it on the CB. What part(s) of the country is this common? How do you know how much your plate costs? Is it just implied that you pay, or is there a formal request? :confused3

Sorry for all of the questions.....I'm just curious as I've never come across this custom before.
I think that it's more of a northeastern thing. As far as knowing how much the cost of your dinner at the reception costs, I think that it's just a guess. But those that do it probably have a good idea.

For the most part, it's not asked for nor expected but occasionally you will find a bride/groom that asks for it.

Those that do pay for the plate, whether asked to or doing it voluntarily include the cost in their gift. So, say, if you plan on spending $50, you spend $100 instead.

I know that it can be a hot topic and am not wanting that here. Just curious if any that answer here do it.

Personally, I don't pay for the plate. I feel that if the bride/groom wants to have an expensive reception, then that's on them. It's not up to me to help pay for it.

I have never heard of something like this until reading it online. There was a thread on the CB about different customs, and such according to different states, and it was listed there. Try finding it, it was an interesting read.

Thanks for the responses Susan and Patsy. It really is interesting to find out about things like this that I had no idea even went on in this country. :)

To answer the question, I would say that I would not offer to pay for my plate. The concept is still so new to me, that it probably wouldn't occur to me to do so when attending a wedding.

You're welcome Patsy!

I'm watching on and off. I'm a bonafide Ranger fan but I think the Cardinals will win the series. Hope I'm wrong......

Not physically at a place but I'm crocheting neck scarfs for our Benevolence group at church to put in the goodie bags they give out each year around New Years to the homeless in Dallas.

We live about three miles from Lake Ray Hubbard. It's the closest lake to us. There are numerous lakes within driving distance (say two hours) from us, approximately 21.

Galveston is the closest we are to the beach and it's a five hour drive from here.

We don't go to the lake/beach very often.

No lakes here, but the closest beach is about ten minutes away. Our entire family had gone to the beach last week.

In your household, who is the one that does the most cooking, and what is your, or this persons speciality dish?

This is a question that my daughter came up with.

If you were to choose between jelly beans, and candy corn, which one would you pick?
