I think that it's more of a northeastern thing. As far as knowing how much the cost of your dinner at the reception costs, I think that it's just a guess. But those that do it probably have a good idea.I had never even heard of this custom until I saw a thread about it on the CB. What part(s) of the country is this common? How do you know how much your plate costs? Is it just implied that you pay, or is there a formal request?
Sorry for all of the questions.....I'm just curious as I've never come across this custom before.
For the most part, it's not asked for nor expected but occasionally you will find a bride/groom that asks for it.
Those that do pay for the plate, whether asked to or doing it voluntarily include the cost in their gift. So, say, if you plan on spending $50, you spend $100 instead.
I know that it can be a hot topic and am not wanting that here. Just curious if any that answer here do it.
Personally, I don't pay for the plate. I feel that if the bride/groom wants to have an expensive reception, then that's on them. It's not up to me to help pay for it.
