Are you able to get fruits, juices, or other products that has the island flavor such as papaya, mango, guava, passion fruit, pineapple.... and if any, what flavors/products do you enjoy?

Yes, we can but I don't because I don't drink fruit drinks. I stems from my childhood......

Yes we can get these things. I love fruit.. all of the above, especially mango and pineapples. I grew up in California so we seemed to always have all sorts of fresh fruit growing or that we can buy.

Now that I'm north of the border we can still get everything but it's usually expensive (have to get to Walmart to get mangos on sale for .79 each.) The other problem is that many of the tropical fruits really are picked too soon so have little flavor.

Same here, mango is my most favorite tropical fruit. Freshly cut chilled mango on a hot summers day-yum!

We can get all kinds of juices, but I like pineapple best. Fresh pineapple is sinfully yummy.

For those of you who buy pineapple, have you ever tried the white pineapple? Instead of the inside being yellow, it is white.

oooooh, a new fruit! I've never had white pineapple and have never see one. I'll have to ask around at a few stores to see if they ever get them.
Perhaps this calls for a trip to Hawaii some day. Trying white pineapple ... sounds as good as excuse as any!!!:thumbsup2

I have not seen it at stores before. It is not so common, but we used to have a few plants before.

Patsy what is poke?

Poke is small cubes of raw fish, octopus, cooked shrimp...and other items mixed together with different sauces, and ingredients. Chopped green onion, bulb onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, Hawaiian chili pepper, rock salt, kukui nut, seaweed, cucumber..... there are many different varieties.

So it is that time of year again where another one of my kids will be celebrating their birthdays. This time it is my son whose birthday is on Monday, but we are having his birthday party on Saturday. I told myself time, and time again that we will not have anymore big parties. At the start, we were only going to have around 15 people, then it turned out to be around 60 or more people attending-YIKES! So, that means alot of preperation, cooking, baking, clean up, .... so tell me about parties that you have hosted before.

***For those of you who were here for over five, close to six years or more.... this party is for my son. I still remember when many of you sent me gifts for an online baby shower, and that was soooooooo sweet of everyone.
My baby is growing up so fast. Can't believe that he will soon be 5, and has already started school. Time sure flies!

What occassion was it for? How many guests did you have? Was there a theme? What type of foods were served? Were there any games, and if so what type of prizes were there.....?

Patsy why is the Kitkat avatar green?

Happy Birthday Brandon. party:

Big parties that i have hosted were birthday parties for John or my self.

About 25-30 guest.

I did a cookout one time (typical cookout foods), and another time i did deli platters with sides.

No games as there were more adults then children.

It is green tea Kit Kat, distributed in Japan.

Oohh different.

Yes, different but oh sooooo yummy. Sadly they are discontinuing this flavor :(. There is also a citrus flavor, ume-(plum), and wasabi-(horseradish). All of these flavors are mixed into the basic chocolate taste, so it is not so overpowering.

The biggest parties I had here at the house have been for 20 - 30. If it was family, we've always had potluck with a theme, mexican, italian, etc. For the kids, we cooked hot dogs, hamburgers with chips and dip and other finger foods. Easy to prepare, easy to clean up.

I have helped plan banquets at church and for Carol's high school band. The banquets at church were for around 100 and the band banquets were for 200+. Sometimes we prepared the food for the church banquets and sometimes we had it catered. The band banquets were always catered.
