Excessive Room Checks?

We are afternoon nappers and the last two trips were ridiculous. There is NO privacy at DVC anymore and it is infuriating to be woken up when on vacation. There is nothing worse than the knock on the door with the privacy tag alerting staff that guests are in their room.

I've been DVC since 1996 and a DVC rep knocking on the door would send me into the stratosphere!

The only resource you have is the security bar. It will prevent cm coming into room.

The checks are not going away. It is just part of traveling , especially to WDW.

Disney / Florida is a huge draw for: Drugs, drug dealing, child traffic, guns....
Big corporations insurance insist there is a place if place ANY crime happens that 'may' have been stopped.

It will be 8 years this week since the PULSE shooting . He had a plan for Disney Springs.

Except the off-site hotels don't insist on barging in during nap time for a room looksie. That's a Disney specific specialty and has zilch to do with security, they just don't want to pay people to check on a room multiple times a day trying to work around a guest's schedule.

My trip this year they didn't bother me once, it was wonderful. During Covid times they were incredibly obnoxious with their security check timings.

I stayed at Coronado 2 weeks ago and had a few room checks when I was just returning from the pool, which is annoying as I was gone literally all day but whatever. I can move past that. What bothered me more was that they did a room check while I was in the shower and even despite me saying I was in the shower, they insisted on coming into the bathroom anyway. So I had to quickly throw on clothes despite being soaking wet....just for them to look in the bathroom for about 5 seconds and then they left.

I don't know if we've been lucky but in the seven plus stays since they've enacted the policy, we've never had more than a visit a day. I understand it can be an annoying, but I've been in the travel industry for over twenty years and am saddened to report that yes, we've come to this. I have several coworkers who are based in Vegas, many are still traumatized and "waiting" for it to happen again. My advice, deadbolt your door the second you enter your room, regardless of where you are staying. If you are showering and your door is opened the deadbolt will save a lot of embarrassment with both parties. Giving you ample time to get presentable. Trust me, most of the "cast members" are as uncomfortable with the room checks as are you. Until this crazy world does a complete turnaround safety for everyone is a top priority. I will happily take a room check as added security for my family. I have not always liked the changes at WDW but this is one I welcome. It's one reason we continue to pay the inflated prices and visit. I like the sense of security I feel when I drive through the "magic" gates. Yes, bad things do happen at Disney but considering the number of rooms rented on a daily basis and the number of people entering the parks they do a pretty good job of keeping it safe.

I just got back from Disney and wanted to share my experiences good and bad. I found no fault with you, and it was not a personal attack. Since you've been on the boards before you can understand how one can doubt a first post. I think I was in shock more than anything. I couldn't believe they wanted to come in even though they knew I was showering. They were kind of rude about it too, so that's fun.

Did you happen to talk to the front desk (in person) about it?

Kinda curious how they say to your face, “yes, we have the absolute right to walk in and see your naked behind. Or front”

Stayed at the Yacht Club last week and did not have this experience at all. Housekeeping was excellent and we were never bothered by security. If they came in it was while we were out of the room.

We’ve had good experiences at YC as well. If we have the room occupied sign on for much of the day, they have called on the phone to ask if we need anything from housekeeping & when they can come to do the room check. Have never had anyone, housekeeping or security attempt to enter the room before we answer… at any resort. And the DVC gift has either been left in the room or slid under the door. Have never had anyone from DVC knock on the door.

I am still stuck on why guests can't use the Security locks during intimate activities like showering. That's why I have a hard time with these Day 1 posters starting yet another Room Check thread with claims of literally about 4 visits per day...

My mind went there for a moment and wondered what if Disney offered a Gift card for the Room Checks, guests would be clamoring for 4 room checks per day.

ironic how some say that the room checks make them feel safer. If anything, CMs having the right to barge into people’s rooms even when they are occupied, entering the bathrooms when guests are showering, makes me feel less safe.

Can’t use the lock if a traveling companion is out at the pool or something and planning to be back soon.

I understand a daily room check but we just got back from a stay at Beach Club and it was SUPER annoying. First knock after being in the room 15 minutes. "Housekeeping need any more toilet paper, soap, towels?" No thank you. Second knock... Timeshare salesman for Riviera. "Hi I want to give you a Free Gift". Here is a special gift just for you a Riviera keepsake and information on how you can make a magical stay year after year". No thank you. Security "Room Check, may I come in". It was literally about 4 times per day and just nuts. Like I said I know a few bad apples have spoiled it for everyone but there has got to be a better way. We did a split stay and while we were at Boulder Ridge DVC we were trying to stay out of the heat and just go out in the late afternoons. Security would come completely into the room and spoke to us/questioned our plans etc. I would go through finger printing, a lie detector test and a full background check vs having to be disturbed on my vacation like this. My Husband and I are now discussing staying off property to have a less intrustive experience at our resort.

Don’t leave room occupied sign on door the whole time is my advice, if that wasn’t on than not sure.
