Excessive Room Checks?

Then you should expect mousekeeping or a room check. Seriously you can't lock the door for 10-15 minutes for your shower? We do it all the time. If members of the party are out they just wait the short time until they get a text saying the room is unlocked.

Cast Members will literally pound incessantly on the door if you lock it with the privacy latch. Ask me how I know.

What if I told you a magical system to notify housekeeping when the room is available to clean has existed for decades? It’s called the occupied sign, which is gone, and here we are. It was such a simple yet effective solution- sign on the door? Don’t knock and see ya later. No sign on the door? Knock and come on in if nobody answers. No need for AI, just some common sense and common courtesy, neither of which are common.

As a member of DVC, I don’t need nor do I want daily housekeeping.
Our thoughts exactly. When we stayed Boulder Ridge DVC we didn't think we would be bothered. But between Housekeeping and Security - we were.

Common sense implies that if you trash a room = you won't get to stay on Disney property again and law enforcement would get invovled. Common sense implies that if you are a predator of one kind or another or doing drugs = you won't get to stay on Disney property again and law enforcement would get involved. I think what people want is - if they are showering, going to the bathroom, napping or other room activities they should expect privacy and respect from the hotel that they won't intrude on those times. They need a Do Not Disturb sign that truly means Do Not Disturb. Heck - even Royal Caribbean has a magnet that says Out for our adventure or something like that to notify the staff that it's okay to enter to clean the room. What a concept!

We recently stayed at AKL and did not have security checks.
One thing that was weird though was DVC salesman called us about a week before our check-in day to try and sell DVC for Riveria.
We said no thank you, he called and emailed a few more times before our visit.
We've never had them pull our name from a reservation for cold calling before. Hope it is not a new trend.
I am spending $600/night, don't want to be hassled by a salesmen on the phone or knocking on my door on vacation.

They seem to be going hard on selling Riviera. It's tacky as hell. If I want a Disney DVC then I would buy a Disney DVC. They pretty much sell themselves. What's with the sudden hard sell? Also, I was at Wilderness Lodge lobby walking by with my Birthday button. The DVC seller said "Come here, come over here." I walked over there. He said "Come behind the desk here. I have a special Birthday message for you." He called some Birthday hotline with Goofy singing to me. I didn't mind entirely, and it was sort of a kind gesture. But I don't like the door-to-door stuff.

Stayed at YC last week and no random check(s). Also stayed at Pop on a split stay and no checks while I was in the room.

We did get that little print of Riviera as our free gift (they gave out a few different styles). We framed them and hung them on the wall.

Not only did they knock on our door during our afternoon naps (on multiple days!), but they also called right after, leaving a message to the effect of, "If you need anything from housekeeping...." Inexcusable.

I know nothing of DVC but ........... still selling Riviera means they haven't sold out? And we soon have Ft Wilderness Cabins and Poly DVC coming on the market? Isn't that unusual to have three DVC locations for sale at the same time competing? Perhaps Riviera sales people are worried about their sales once the others are wide open to buy?

NOT that it is an excuse. One would hope Disney DVC would not go the route of other timeshare brands and their obnoxious sales tactics. Now my question, you were at YC ... were you in a DVC unit or just a cash paying guest in a regular room. I think if I booked a cash stay in a room and I started getting harassed by DVC folks I'd be livid!

We were at Beach Club Resort (Non-DVC) cash stay getting harrassed to purchase DVC.

Slightly off-topic but Disney has been breaking my heart for years now. Like I've said many times now, I understand the sad reasons they have to do one daily room check. I felt our vacation was disturbed way too often. It wasn't relaxing at all. I hate to think of staying off site. But the times we have stayed off property we were neve bothered once. We napped when we wanted, used the room without fear of someone walking in etc. and we never had anything stolen while off site.

After 25 years of staying on-site at WDW, Disney should know by now that I'm a Disneyholic vacationer and not a threat to anyone. Heck, even the TSA knows I'm okay, since I have TSA Pre-check.

But, that being said, if they're looking for weapons, for example, shouldn't they be opening all the bureau drawers and closed suitcases? Yet they don't do this.

And if they're concerned about human trafficking, which is apparently such a big problem in Orlando that there are signs about it in the ladies' room stalls at MCO, then a mere housekeeping visit while the occupants aren't in the room shouldn't be sufficient. And, btw, if you do have housekeeping come to the room while you're not in it, then there's no additional security check. So what's the point?

And, yes, I've been disturbed several times while trying to nap, although, fortunately, I've never been in the shower when security showed up. The security people who do come never make any effort to identify themselves. It's very intrusive and I'm always relieved when I get back to the room and it's been made up, since this means (usually) that no one else is going to bother me for the rest of the day.

After two bad stays with the checks I moved offsite full time. First thing I noticed (aside from the savings) was being told or having a letter in my room that they would not be doing "other brands style room checks". That they respect our privacy and want our trip to be relaxing. Some hotels will tell you if the DND sign is out for more than 24 hours without anyone going in and out they will do a well check to make sure you are okay.

I've been back onsite a few times since COVID now but had serious conversations with the front desk. I have not been bothered since. As an AP who was there 4-6 times a year, my file should have been noted for anything they need to know and we should have been left alone. They know our guest makeup, they know why we have the things we have, they shouldn't need to keep trying to put eyes on us in our room. It should be in my file. For others, spy on them once and then leave them alone.

I am wondering if your experience has been had by many lately. Social Media is now rolling with news of the rooms checks and terrible experiences. So many responses from folks saying they are cancelling and moving offsite or that they won't book onsite in the future. I don't know what is happening at Disney that this is becoming a big problem again but it's now a "new" big discussion.

They never made up our room at Beach Club or Boulder Ridge. Not once. *Edited to add - they took our garbage daily this was done by security and not housekeeping BTW.

As someone who stays at Dolphin almost every visit, I’ve never been disturbed there once. For all I know they are doing security checks at Dolphin, but the fact that I’m unsure if they are even doing it means they are taking guest satisfaction into account.

When one is staying at a Deluxe resort on a cash reservation, as you were, one is supposed to be getting maid service every day. Emphasis on supposed to be, since the last time we were at AKL we had to repeatedly ask for housekeeping to come to our room.

That sucks. My room was made only once at Coronado but they did take the garbage every day. I don't care about beds being made but I like getting more towels and the mouthwash (haven't seen that being given at any other resort).

Oh yea that did not work out so well since many guests forgot to remove the DND sign to get their room cleaned and then complained when their room was not serviced all day and mousekeeping had left for the day. And it made checkout day very confusing since many guests left with the DND sign still on the door when they left the resort. So guess what door knocking was required as new guests wanted their room ready early.

I enjoyed the old style DND signs that had a Please clean message on the reverse side. However even that was ruined by children that ran the hallways turning the room hang tags around or swapping on different doors.

There is simply no perfect solution that meets all needs or requirements.

Cast Members will literally pound incessantly on the door if you lock it with the privacy latch. Ask me how I know.
What would you care if you are in the shower. However if you or your children are napping that's a major impact. But as a reminder the privacy latch you mention is really a security latch to prevent anyone from walking in on an occupied room.

Heck - even Royal Caribbean has a magnet that says Out for our adventure or something like that to notify the staff that it's okay to enter to clean the room.
This only works great with trained Guests. How many guests forget this handy feature. So does RCL just not clean or service the room if the Magnet is not on the door? I don't think so.

Yep. I was pissed. They intrude on us multiple times at both friggin resorts and don't even care to make our bed, bring fresh towels, or anything. UGH.

We stay at AKL/V often and always have the checks, even if we weren't there for them and were out in the parks. They'll come in and do the trash etc, and that counts as a "room check."
