Exceeding occupancy limit w/ 3 yo? Sneaking?

If that's the rule then I wouldn't do it....however....I thought the values would allow you to have 5 as long as one of the children was 3 or younger. (I only have one child so no personal experience...just thought I had read that here on the boards at some point).

The child would need to be under 3. Children who are 3 years and older are counted towards the occupancy limit of 4. It may not make sense but that's the law.

One of my 3 year olds was a real handfull. If management had come to investigate I may well have said, yes, he is 3. You can take him away and I pick him up when I check out. And, thanks. Have a very Disney Day.

You know it's sneaking. As an adult, you can do what you want whether it's right or wrong and face the consequences. Whether someone else has been busted for it or not, you may or may not be held accountable if you do it. If you need to ask maybe you need to reconsider. I'm not going to be squeezing my family of 5 into a crackerbox of a value anytime soon(we get 2 rooms for the extra bathroom)but if I was going to I could make up my own mind without posting it here, KWIM?

The 3 year old would need a ticket. And then getting into EMH would require a room key- and yes they checked us. Plus if you are planning on dining plan that would be a problem.

For me I wouldn't do it. Not worth the "hiding" to me. You could do a family suite at All Stars if you want to go value following the rules.

Are you going to try to avoid buying the kid a park ticket also? B/c if so, if you plan on portraying him as under 3, then yes, you can "sneak" him into the room, just like you will be "sneaking" him into the park, and "sneaking" him food at a buffet (if you choose to eat at any buffets).
The ruse will work as long as your other kids don't tattle and you perpetuate it completely. Otherwise, get a room that can accommodate all 5 of you.

I asked because I wonder if others have done it, I wonder how tight it would be in a value room with a family of 5 (never stayed in one nor seen one before), I wonder if other people have thought of ricochet items I hadn't thought of (e.g. ME, the room keys, EMH). Lots of reasons to post the question.

While I've never heard of anyone being tossed out for occupancy, you might also consider that if you are frequent visitors to WDW, they ask names and ages of the family. They might wonder where your four year old came from next year, if they're not listed on this year's ressie.

I agree that WDW should have more options for larger families. We are a family of four, so it doesn't apply to us, but I'm sure I would be tempted as well.

I had to LOL at this. Wonder where they think my 2, 3 and 4 year old came from last year? We adopted....but still, too funny what they must have thought. This normal family of 4, now renting 2 rooms and having 3 more children all but one 'non infant'. We of course told them we had adopted...and we were celebrating with our trip, so we headed off any confusion. It's hectic to give them ages when we call too, and they've gotten them mixed up a few times, so they are never right when we check in and we have to change them.

I don't think Disney really cares if you have a child one trip that you didn't have before. Isn't it possible that you left your youngest at home with the grandparents?

As far as the OP's question, I find it valid. I wouldn't be so concerned with breaking the rules as space. Those rooms are very small.

We are talking about room occupancy here. Do you really think children know how many are allowed in a room? Young children? Mine wouldnt unless I came out and told them.

But if you are being charged a child rate for what should be an adult rate, your child must be considerably older than 3. A 13 year old is certainly more cognizant of rules than a 3 year old.

I agree, but I was not referring to teaching a 3 year old about honesty in this situation. It is obvious that the OP has other children going on the trip. I assume they are older than three.

The bottom line is that this is a moral decision to be made by the OP (or anyone else). Yes, many rules are broken all the time and people get away with it. Does that make it right? It is up to each person to do what they are comfortable with.

The OP asked a question and had been advised it is not only a space issue as it it a LAW.

To me it does not matter if someone has "gotten away" with it. That doesn't make it ok. It is still an attempt at breaking a law.

I can see that this thread is going to end up being closed with the morality battles going on now, so let me quickly add that renting points from a DVC member gives you more options on higher occupancy rates. I'm pretty sure that you can have 5 people in a 1 bedroom, and depending upon what time you stay those prices can be comparable to a room at POR. And you get a full kitchen, and your own washer and dryer, which is great when you have kids.

Once we started renting points, we never went back. Then we went completely over to the dark side and now we own. It's worth looking into...

ETA: I'm not suggesting you rent them from me-my family has already gobbled all mine up until 2009! But check on the DVC rent board on the dis...

Let me clarify my point about the occupancy limit being a law...

The local municipality sets the occupancy limits for hotel rooms. Hotels are expected to adhere to those occupancy limits. If they knowingly violate that law the hotel can be fined, not the guest. But, if you have more people in your hotel room than is permitted and the hotel manager finds out, (s)he is obligated to remove you from that room.

SO I can be frank to your original question. The rooms are small and I think the fit is tight. If the little one could share a bed with the other 2 kids it might work or even a sleeping bag could work as long as you picked it right up in the morning so you could walk around.

The value resorts are big with tons of kids running around. Noone is going to give you any hassle.

I think the decision boils down to what your family is used to and how long your planning to do it. If being squeezed together is no big deal you will be fine.

Does WDW really pay attention if we book a value for 2A2C, and bring our 3 y/o under the radar? I would like to stay somewhere other than Alligator Bayou at POR, and could also use the $$ savings by downgrading from Mod to Value.

I realize this is probably a touchy subject, but really, does anyone notice and/or care? DS3 would sleep in a little pullout chair or some such comfy-ness. I realize it might be tight quarters but we would put away his bedroll other than nighttime anyway.

I have a standard answer. Would you mind if you get caught & fined or toss out? If the risk is worth it, then go for it. for me, I have enough to worry about just arranging a vacation and the way Disney has been cracking down on cheaters I wouldn't risk it.

Why not have a thread on how to smoke in your room or how to let 5 people use 1 park pass?

I'm checking on it (we're a family of 4 so it hasn't come up). I know the studios are, but I *think* the 1 bdrms are 5 since they're two rooms-the "master" and then the sitting room that has the kitchen in it. It's huge compared to POR, so logically it should be 5, but I need some official consensus...

According to the DVC Vacation Planner 2008-2009 a 1 BR sleeps up to 4 people. There have been reports that MS will allow a 5th person (although that is not consistent) if they do allow the 5th person, there will be no extra bedding,towels or room key provided.

AKV has some 1 BR's that do officially hold 5 people.

I totally disagree with that statement. The Dis is very clear that they do not support any threads that encourage or "teach" people how to cheat the system. Threads are closed for that frequently.

That said, the OP asked her question, she has been told what she would miss out on, what the rules are and what other options are available. I think the need for this thread to continue has passed. JMHO

Ah hah!!! We took DD 3 times under 3 and then she's been several times over 3 so I was just confused about the time table (we got in as many trips as we could while she was still free) I do remember now her first trip over 3 I tried to book a king room because she slept with us anyway and they wouldn't allow it. (I thought that was odd too)

Yes, they do pay attention, because they are there to make money. The possibility that they will notice is slim, but you have to remember that if they do, you WILL be asked to leave, and the fire marshall WILL fine you. You have to decide if it's worth the risk.

There is very little space in a value resort, less than you realize before you get there. I went in '05 at ASMo with DH and DB12, and we were squished! Kids spread out a lot! And please remember that the 3yo may get upset being the one who doesn't get a real bed. My DD4 would have thrown a FIT about it. And you need to take into consideration that little bit may get stepped on if (s)he is sleeping on the floor and someone needs to use the potty in the middle of the night.

Also, 3yo will need a park ticket, and if (s)he isn't on the reservation, (s)he won't have a room key ticket, won't be on any dining plan you want to get, and won't be eligible for any discounts ya'll might get with a package. You'll have to buy his tickets and/or food separately.
