Evolution vs Creation

OT, but, did you know that Jedi is an official religion over here in the UK? Enough people put it down as their religion in the last census for it to become a formal religion.

Personally I prefer the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ;)

And this is one reason why the whole "God" thing falls down, for me. If one omnipotent being is responsible for all of creation (and bear in mind our galaxy is just a speck amongst billions of galaxies) why did he make everything so complicated and yet imperfect?
What's interesting is that I see the same things, yet see something completely different.

I see a universe where the basic rules are very simple and perfect. But the end result of those rules is both incredible and imperfect. All of which fits neatly into my view of a universe that God set up, but doesn't necessarily get involved in the day-to-day details. God is behind the laws of physics, but not behind who wins an NFL game.

Tying into one of the main themes of the thread - it's hard to say if my views about God's involvement in the universe are based on my views of the universe; if my views about the universe are based on my views about God, or a little of both.

Yep, me too. For me the more I analyze things such as the human body, just one thing lately the ear canal and how we have the whole balancing hair thingies and stuff that help maintain our equilibrium and balance etc, is just so fascinatingly perfect to me. The human body is almost perfect in a way. It does break down and people do get diseases etc., but it is just such a perfect machine in a way, I can't fathom that a creator wasn't behind it. Just as how a nice Ferrari was created by man, and couldn't have just "poof" magically evolved from a tricycle, I think there has to be a God behind something as incredibly complicated as the human body.

Very true. I don't for a second believe that any holy text is the be all and end all word of God. God's truth and word is too grand and intricate to be shriveled down into our pathetically basic languages.Rich::

I believe this too. And similarly, I also believe the human mind is incapable of comprehending the true nature of God and the universe - although I do believe (hope) that when we die all becomes clear.
