Everest - - My Husband Just Rode It

The podcasts were pretty good. They give a nice idea of what to expect, however I think the 'real thing' is going to be over the top! As far as does WDW need it? Sure, why not. There are a ton of attractions that the entire family can participate in. I, for one, can't ride Primevil Whirl. There is just something about the way it turns and drops that leave me ill. If I close my eyes I can do it, but what's the fun in that?! But, I can do M:S with no problems whatsoever. Not every attraction is going to be for everyone. I reallythink EE is going to be a huge asset to AK. Disney does need to add some super headliner attractions along this line. I know that when my brother and his family visit Florida, they never go to WDW anymore (the boys are 17 and 21 now)...for the past 10 years they have gone only to Universal and SeaWorld (sil loves SW). Never WDW though. He says it has nothing of interest to the boys or to him anymore. Maybe EE will bring those older teens and young adults looking for a thrill into the park. Not that WE need anymore people in there, but I'm sure Disney would like to see it.

As far as harmful to one's health? I don't think there are any attractions in WDW that are harmful. Sure, if you are pregnant or have a bad neck/back there are things you shouldn't do. But there is an awful lot of other stuff there. Something for every taste IMHO.

The video makes it look like either the big drop is curved or it's backwards....either way is fine with me. I'd prefer a shoulder harness because I hate the popping out of my seat feeling and because I worry about the safety for a smaller person (like my 5yo who can't wait to ride!) riding with a bigger person. Those lap bars don't come down far enough to make me feel like she is held in well. I guess I'll just have to do like I do on BTMRR and push that bar down as hard as I can on myself (ouch, not comfortable)so she's not bouncing around...unless they've made them individual lap bars, which would be great.

I thought I read somewhere that they were individual lap bars .I also think they are safer (more Comfortable) when riding with different size people.

I personally feel you can NEVER have enough roller coasters!

I agree with a lot of you that feel WDW could use more thrill rides. There are plenty of rides there for kids. However the 'big' kids could use some more rides.

As far as those of you concerned about the lap bar, one of the biggest(AND BEST)coasters EVER, has a variation of a lap bar. That would be Millennium Force at Cedar Point! If the lap bar is cool for Millenium Force, it will definitely be more than enough for this ride.

I watched the video last night, and while it looks very entertaining, I would definitely say it is a family ride. I did not find it that intense.

I'm so excited to ride this on our June trip. Question, is the height reqiurement 44 inches as rumored? My son really wants to ride and measures 45 inches currently. Second- I assume this will be a Fast pass attraction correct? What is the best way from the entrance of the park to get back to it? I will be running to the attraction our first day at AK, just want to know which way to go, AK is SO big.

Thanks,

My husband works at AK and just got home. They called a "town meeting" at 2:30 and took his whole department over to the attraction and let them ride it. He said it was very very very fast and he loved the "surprise" but that it was definitely scary. They gave him business cards to give out to friends (telling about the ride) and a free gift. He loved it and said he'll go with me again on Saturday (the rest of us WDW cast members get to ride it Friday, Saturday, Sunday). He said the store by the attraction is very unique .... very different. He thinks both the ride and the store will be huge hits. And they told him the park's hours will be extended once the attraction is open officially (April 1st). No other details.
Although I see you & DH are CM's, can I assume that you've ventured into "enemy territory" and ridden The Mummy?

I'm one of those ones with neck/back problems but, will not give up riding some thrill rides (Star Wars & Space Mt - usually ok, sometimes not/Dinosaur way too bumpy).

Can you ask DH if this ride falls somewhere between the intensity of Space Mt. & The Mummy. Specifically, I need to know about hair pin turns (ala wild-mouse type in the dark that I can't brace for) and sudden starts & stops.

TIA

Scary how? Do you mean the drops and turns etc or scary like the Dinosaur ride? My DD9 loves roller coasters but not scary like Dinosaur - this frightened her and put her off rides for the rest of our holiday last year. :sad1:

TeenaS.... thanks for the info !!! If there's any news of a soft opening, can you fill us in !?!? I will be in the world the first week of Feb and I am DYING to ride this !!! :hyper:

I guess I'm a minority here I could care less about this ride. We don't need another roller coaster ride we need a attraction that eveyone can enjoy and with some imagnitnation. There is no thrill if a ride is harmfull to ones health. That's what I see here just like Mission space. Just my 2 cents worth.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think that there are plenty of attractions that most everyone can enjoy...I mean, how many different boat rides and simulators can they build.

Regarding the health issue...I am sure that Disney is not interested in maiming or killing their guests...That wouldn't be good for business :rotfl2:

I too would like to know if there will be any chance of riding the first week of Feb I'll be there 2/2-2/6. Anyone heard anything other than the AP holders rides at the end of Jan? I have an AP, but won't be there then. :confused3
Thanks! Deb

Awesome!!! This ride sounds fantastic!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

DH and I are soooo excited about riding this on our May trip!! I will keep my fingers crossed that it will definitely be open to everyone by then. Woo-Hoo!!!!

Hmmm I wonder if we could bribe the ride operators :scratchin How much are you willing to pitch in !? :rotfl:

What is the backwards portion of the ride like. Is the train just moving backwards or are there hills and turns also? How fast does it go backwards? Just as fast as it goes forwards?

Rode it today.

Its really not that much more intense than Space Mt or BTMR, but some people may say otherwise.

Height limit is 44 inches.

Each individual seat (each row has 2 seats) has its own lap bar.

The Main drop, is more like 80 feet and its a curved drop.

The backwards section isn't very long and seemed like it consisted of a couple small drops (longer than USF's Mummy backwards section though)

I see this more as a Family coaster than a coaster for thrill seekers. Everytime you think its going to pick up, it stops and comes to a halt for the story to be told (not the best choice of words)

Overall, its a good ride, but I was a bit disappointed.

When they were building it, I saw the drop! I absolutly hate drops, but on the other hand I have to go on this thing because it looks sooo awesome!

So Slacking,

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate it. And just for comparison what would you rate Mummy?

Thanks for sharing. While reading another thread yesterday, I came across one that listed a site with a video of someone riding the ride. It took awhile to download, but it was neat. It reminds me of a faster Runaway Railroad. The site was http://distantcreations.com/**************/

This is a tough one for me. If I had to give a rating for Everest right now, it would probably be a 7. Its a fun ride and its very good, but some sections of the ride (particulary right after the large lift hill) just don't pick up enough for me and don't last very long (in particular the section I already named.) The Yeti is cool (its positioning and purpose reminded me a bit of the T-Rex in Jurassic Park River Adventure at IOA.) This ride will be VERY popular with the general public though, they should love it. I think most coaster enthusiasts (this was my 202nd roller coaster) will be a bit underwhelmed by it. I didn't mention the queue. Very Well themed and ltos to look at. The Yeti Museum us awesome. My concern is that the queue may not be large enough. BTW, I rode it 6 times today.

Now, The Mummy. When I rate rides, I rate them based on how fun it was for me. Personally, I have more fun riding the Mummy. The coaster section may be short, but its zippy, intense, and a lot of fun for me. Also, The Mummy uses effects such as Fire and water which for me makes the experience a little more immersive. Overall, I'd probably give Revenge of the Mummy about an 8 out of 10. I just didn't get the same sense of elation on my first ride of EE that I did on RotM the first time I rode it.

Both rides though are great, and like I said EE will be a hit with the public.
