Everest - - My Husband Just Rode It

I am going to WDW February 12-17 (yay!) and just got some materials from Disney with a map and things like that. Included in there is a piece mentioning what there is to do during our trip and it says..."We picked these 'don't miss" attractions just for you: Disney's Animal Kingdom Expedition Everest-Before its official opening, take a sneak "peak" trek on this new high-speed train adventure where the Yeti (a.k.a. The Abominable Snowman) lurks."

So it sounds like there will be a soft open because these pieces are personalized for your specific situation. Like, we're staying at CBR and the pictures in the pamphlet are of that resort. So they know the dates we're going and are promoting it being open for sneak peaks. I personally am scared to death but my boyfriend says WE ARE RIDING IT.

How do you get those kind of materials? Do you have to book a package? Thanks! :goodvibes

Does Disney actually announce soft openings or is it just a nice surprise when you get into the park and the ride is open? Because if there is a soft opening I am going to make a mad dash (literall :teeth: ) to the ride! :hyper:

thanks for the info -

Just subscribing in high hopes that there WILL be a soft opening the first weekend of February when I am in WDW for a short weekend!

My sister rode it the other day, and said it was awsome. Also my parents get to ride it this weekend. Sometime I wish I worked for disney. Oh well I will be there in Nov to ride it.

Cheers: :cool1:

I'm curious as to how a rollercoaster, which looks like a continuous circuit coaster with multiple trains, can go forward and backwardso n the same track. All the forward/backward coaster I've been on have one train, and are slow loaders.

I'm going in May and I can't wait to ride Everest!!!! :cool1:

RNR is my favorite rollercoaster...followed closely by Raptor a Cedar Point.
I wonder if Everest will bump either down on my list! It looks so cool!!!!

I wonder though....it surprises me that the height restriction is 44", especially since the height restriction on Primevil Whirl is 48" -- so how "thrilling" can Everest be? Of course, I've never understood the reason for the 48" restriction on Primevil Whirl. It's kinda boring if you ask me.

There is probably very little track that the trains go both forwards and backwards through. When the train is stopped at the mangled track, a piece of track behind you switched between 2 tracks similar to the way the 2 stations on big thunder mountain work but in reverse (ie exit left station, flip track travel backwards into station right station. The other possible method is a turn table like the norway ride. While the car is stopped, the section of track your on (boat path on norway) turns to point you towards the new track. The Mummy and USF uses both methods with the turntable being a full 180 degree turn. The mummy loads very quickly so I don't think that will be a problem.

Height restrictions have NOTHING to do with how thrilling or intense a ride is. They are based on how tall someone must be to safely be secured by the attractions restraint system.

We're headed to the AP event next week for a 3 day stay. We are going for a week trip the first week of April as well, but we knew the ride would be dreadully packed. Also, our AP ends on April 3 so we would miss the grand opening anyway on April 7 (we are doing some other things around Disney instead of the parks after the AP expires...relaxing for the first time at Disney!).

So we are taking advantage of the AP weekend next week. Our youngest daughter LOVES roller coasters, and was finally tall enough to get on SM last October. She clears 44" barefooted now (SM required some "height assistance"). She can't wait for the ride! BTW...this kid rode her first roller coaster (Goofy's Barn Stormer) at 2 yo with both of her hands up in the air and had the biggest smile on her face the entire ride. I think EE will be one of her new favorites!

I got to ride at the cast member preview as a guest...I was so excited :)
I think the ride is awesome! For the switch between forward and backward sections, it looked as if the the track flipped, so the piece on top ended up being on the bottom (if that makes sense). I have seen it on some other Vekoma coasters, like their flying coasters I believe with the dual loading stations.

Hi There,

Any DVC members willing to adopt my thrill-seeking husband? We'll be at AK Saturday January 28th! I'm know he'd love to ride it- he's yet to find a ride at Disney he thought was exciting enough. :goodvibes

Thanks

PixieTwinkle asked about the materials I received in the mail. I did not book a package, just room only. It was a little pamphlet with a four page letter, maps of each park and WDW as a whole. I booked my room about a week or so ago so it came pretty quickly.

Ok.. we are leaving for WDW next Wednesday for the AP/DVC EE Preview. I very much dislike rollercoasters! I just don't like the way the drops make me feel. I had never really rode any ride until my husband and I first went to Disneyland together. He got me on a few things. I do love Space Mountain and my favorite ride is Big Thunder Mountain. He got me on California Screamin' (I don't know how) and I cried and cursed and vowed I will never go back on again. So, I have not rode Splash Mountain because after that experience I was through. I do like loops. So, my husband convinced me last trip to WDW to go on RnR. I was freaking out in line, which was a waste because it was like nothing. There are absolutely no drops and I don't mind the loops. So anyways.. back on the EE subject.. do you think I can ride this? I just don't want to be all upset after I get off.

Thanks!

Oh I can't wait to ride. I was so happy to see that the AP Preview weekend was the weekend of DH's B-Day trip. :cool1:
