Ever Met a Celebrity at Work?

A fairly famous NFL player came in for Reading Week as a Guest Reader.

He showed up with a 5 car Escalade entourage in tow.

Sat down, opened up the book (this is for an elementary school mind you)

AND COULDN'T READ IT. Like listening to a kindergartener trying some new book for the first time.

It was painful.... even the kids were very uncomfortable.

He tried to get through 2 or 3 pages, then put it down and started talking about himself and his team.

Oh, you can't give us something like that and then not give a name!! :rotfl:

I have met:

Art Carney
Clint Eastwood (my uncle did PI work for him)
Katherine Hepburn
Tom Selleck
Jackie Gleason
some guy that was on Falcon Crest
Julia Roberts
Richard Thomas of The Waltons

Yes. Our company is in a joint venture with a retired NFL player and he has an office down the hall from mine. He has a lot of famous sports figures in and out of here all of the time.

Working in the restauarnt business for years, both my DH and I have met several "celebrities". While waiting tables at a restaurant in Wash DC, I would sometimes sub in bartend at a club that the owner also owned. While there I served a few R+B and rap artists, Biz Markie, Warren G to name a few plus some I probably had no idea who they were, lol. Also alot of Wizards players used to go to this club, one night Shaq was actually there but he was up in the VIP area and I didn't get a chance to see him. When Rasheed Wallace played for the Bullets (now Wizards) he used to live 2 houses down from me. I've also waited on a couple of soap opera stars when I worked in Annapolis.

Now my DH has met quite a few, while in college he used to wait tables at the Trump Marina in Atlantic City in the summer, he met Donald trump many times (thought he was actually pretty cheap when tipping!), Regis Philbin, Kathy Lee and her husband and I know there are more. When he was a manager at a restaurant in Baltimore in the habor he met alot of MLB players and we are big baseball fans so we have some pretty good autographs, Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, Mariano Rivera. He only would ask for autographs from players my DS really loved and of course only after buying their meals for them, lol. He would see so many players, my DS wanted to camp out in his restaurant on game days when the Orioles were playing against some of his favorite guys. Now my DH is a general manager of the same restaurant in Annapolis, there he has met Montel Williams (comes in often), Pat Sajak (his wife is there there a few times a month), Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte and Nicole Ritchie. Paris Hilton was there one day when she was dating Benji but my Dh was off that day and believe it or not the servers said she was pretty nice!

I was a background extra for four seasons on Friday Night Lights. I met lots of celebrities but the one that will always stand out in my memory is Kyle Chandler. By the time the show wrapped, every time Kyle would see me on set, he'd come over and give me a big hug. He acted like we were friends, was always gracious to me and my family and never acted hollyweird at all. Just an overall nice guy.
Heres a blog post about my experience as an extra.

The darndest thing about doing FNL is that now no one's a celebrity to me. after meeting and working with my favorite actor, I have no problem talking to anyone famous. They're just people to me. I may admire them or whatever, but the celebrity mystique is gone for me.

I love Kyle Chandler

Not met, but saw. I used to work in an office building that was right on a river...about a mile downriver from a yacht manufacturer. Well, word around town (its a small town) was that Scottie Pippin from the Chicago Bulls had ordered a yacht from this particular company.

One day someone yelled "Everyone come here!" We ran to the windows just in time to see Scottie crusing down the river test driving his new yacht.

We used to see people when I worked at WDW, Paula Abdul, the cast of Full House, (didn't get to see John Stamos though), Loni Ansderson, various athletes especially just after big events we'd see the Ï'm going to Disney World" ones. The one I remember most was Scottie Pippin, we were out in the park as guests that day and saw him, no Guest Relations people or escorts, just him enjoying the parks, a little boy saw him and stopped in awe to stare up at him. Scottie stopped and shook his hand. I though that was nice.

Honestly, I don't remember, he isn't as "famous" as some of his supermodel married to Bieber hair lookin' teammates.

And I think if you aren't into sports it's even harder to remember them. I met a whole bunch of guys that played for the Redskins. It was years ago and I couldn't remember one of their names if my life depended on it. :rotfl:

It's good to know he's so nice. My son used to love watching Early Edition when he was little (and it was on re-runs). :)

Trace Adkins stayed at the hotel I was working at. He was in town to do a concert. A few of us girls were down in the lobby just chatting hoping to catch a glimpse of him. He came down to get some coffee and said Hey. He was very nice. He was getting ready to leave to go to his concert so we all stayed around to watch him walk out ;).

My BIL is a professional body builder and at one of his events, I got to meet Lou Ferrigno and saw Arnold Schwartzeneger (He was only there for a short time and no one was getting close to the Govinator though. Bummer.)

I have never met a celebrity when I was working. The closest I've ever come to it was talking to Carol Baldwin (mother of Alec Baldwin) on the phone at a temp job I had. She is so sweet on the phone.

Other than that, there is a sci-fi author who has written for both Star Trek and Babylon 5 (and other sci-fi novels) that lives in my town that I see every now and then.

That's about it.

There were a few others, but most of them were local Chicago celebrities that a lot of people may not have heard of

:rotfl2: I was thinking I probably have never met any and then it dawned on me that I *might* have and wouldn't really know it since some of the more local celebrities live close by (or at least I think they do) -- the one that stands out is Marshall Broden (I think that's how you spell his name -- basically Whizzo from Bozo!) but I wouldn't know him if he walked right past me (unless of course, he was in costume). The other one is Tom Skilling but I can't say I've met him, I think his brother lives around here somewhere or that was the rumor.

The only other celebrity was obvious things like when Alton Brown came to the Museum of Science & Industry.

I would be the notorious one though for not having a clue OR doing a "gee that person LOOKS like so & so" but not really thinking it was them.

In the office: Michael Stipe (REM), David Wakefield (English Beat, General Public), Mitch Snyder (homeless advocate, others from green and animal rights groups...

On the Phone: Marlon Brando, Bruce Willis, members of Grateful Dead, Indigo Girls, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield.....

also, some of the people I worked with are somewhat popular - you sometimes see them on the news - they now work for various think tanks,etc....William Arkin, Eric Furst, Stephen I Schwartz...

I work at a daycare in the DFW area and Jay Ratliff of the Dallas Cowboys has his kids there and I see him a lot.

n high school I worked at a movie theater that hosted premiers for the Toronto Film Festival. I met Javier Bardem and Kevin Spacey, both who were very kind.

Some of the more senior people I worked with were escorts for people like Nicole Kidman (apparently a sweetheart), Tom Cruise (very nice), Megan Fox (refused to talk to anyone) and Natalie Portman (quiet but lovely).

I also have a friend from high school whose sister is currently David Letterman's nanny, so she has many, many stories of meeting celebrities- including a few horror stories.

Not in my line of work, although when I interned with a NBA team a few years ago the Cavaliers came to play and I almost go ran over by Lebron James (compared to him I must have looked like an ant :lmao: ). My mom drives limos occasionally and has driven Paris & Nicky Hilton (apparently they're both trashy) and Gene Simmons (nice guy, very business savvy from the way he talked on his phone, good tipper). Just in general I have met a ton of celebrities (my mom says I'm a magnet, if someone famous is close I'm bound to run into them :rotfl: ): Tony Stewart, Clay Aiken, Clint Black, Dierks Bentley, Elliot Sadler, Fantasia Barino, Florence Henderson, Sarah Fisher, Denny Hamlin....I'm sure there's more, I just can't remember them.

Jack Scalia, from the 80's - he was on Dallas. The pilot for a new series he was starring in was filmed in downtown Jacksonville, Florida - my office was their headquarters. He was super nice, and :lovestruc quite handsome!

I met Jimmy Buffett through my job many years ago. He was the nicest guy, very laid-back. At one point I called him Mr. Buffett and he said, "Please, call me Jimmy." So I always tell folks I was on a first-name basis with him. ;)

I was working front desk at a hotel and Corbin Bernson (LA Law) walked in wanting a room. My DS intruduced me to Ron Jeremy very ackward for me but my hubby loved it!
