A notice to "save the Date"- like 7 months away.??..and that the formal Invitation will Follow???:confused3

yes, it's fairly common these days

I think it's becoming pretty common. I've received quite a few.

I sent these out to out of town friends and relatives that might need to make airline and hotel reservations. I think it is fairly common when you will have a lot of people from other places coming.

The groom is from "out of town" and it did contain names of local hotels.
Thanks.....it was my first.

Yes.
Around Christmas, we got a "Save the Date" card for my cousin's wedding coming up at the end of August.

The invitation hasn't come yet...but we do have 8 months notice!

Yep, its very popular. Especially for destination and holiday weekend weddings.

yep - pretty common for wedding where there are a lot of people attending who have to make travel plans.

I got one not to long ago for my cousin's wedding in July and I sent them for my wedding (7+ years ago) because nearly everyone had to travel.

I have only read about his here. I have never received one, nor know of anyone who has...Thank god though, as our HUGE Italian family would just send one off weekly.:rotfl:

Yes, I've received them too. And I'm not sure if I like them. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old lady, but what makes this wedding so special that I need to set that date aside nearly a year ahead? And what if I don't want to save the date?
With these save the date cards, I have no legitimate excuse not to go to the wedding.:lmao:
And yes, I'm just being a grumpy old lady. But I'm still not sure I like someone holding my calendar hostage so far in advance! :)

I like them, I can think of two weddings that I had to miss because I was leaving for vacation that day. I would have happily booked my vacation for the next day if I knew beforehand.

We had "save the date" magnets sent to our family in England. We gave the rest away to our family and friends. I still see them on people's fridges!

I just sent them out for my wedding that is in September. We're having a destination wedding where everyone will have to make travel plans. If I was doing it local, I probably wouldn't send any. I sent everyone magnets for the fridge.

Although I think they confused one of FI's relatives because she sent me an RSVP through the website, which is fine. I guess I will email her that I will be sending out formal invites an she doesn't need to send a response card back.

This is what I made:

Yes. This is normally done when the wedding is taking place around a holiday. Ive recieved two. One was for a wedding Memorial Day weekend, the other around 4th of July Weekend.

Yes, because it was going to be a 3 day weekend wedding at a mountain top bed & breakfast out of state, and we all needed to make reservations far in advance or else the place would not guarantee that no outside people would be there same weekend.

on theknot.com they are called STD's!!!:rotfl2:

Yes, and sadly I refer to them as that in the outside world and get very strange looks. "Glad you liked my STD!"

I don't think that's why people send them. It's more for people who are out of town and might need to make travel arrangements. Invites are usually sent 6 weeks out and that might not be enough time for some people. But I do understand your desire to have a good excuse. ;)

BTW, I just received an email STD for a wedding shower for a person I didn't even know was getting married. The email was from her friend too, not even her.

yes, a lot of couples do this! We have gotten little cards and my favorites were refrigerator magnets!
