ER question... what is wrong with Dr. Carter?

lucy_knight03.jpg

She was a medical student portrayed by actress Kellie Martin ("Life Goes On"), in the 5th and 6th seasons. I think she was one of the most underrated characters on the show, in its long history. She was killed in the same attack where John Carter incurred iternal injuries (presumably, to his kidney).
I've been watching since the beginning, and the stabbing episode is the one I have never seen (I have seen clips from it, though). Ever since then, I've always been paranoid and hidden the cake knife at work.

Robert "Rocket" Romano...I can't believe you forgot his name!:lmao:

You mean like the time he was killed by the helicopter in the ambulance bay after catching (scott grimes) smoking pot?
I always remember going into work the day after that episode, and my friend laughing and saying, OMG, he was just like Capt. Hook! The helicopter that took his arm finally killed him, just like the crocodile in Peter Pan.

I remember that episode so well, I never laughed so hard at someone being killed off a show in my life!
Captain Hook, now that is funny :lmao:

I have watched every episode from the beginning and while some have been less than memorable Thursday night will never be the same again this spring! When I was home last year I would watch the double episodes every day.

This season did start off rather choppy though and I did lose interest....briefly; couldn't keep interest in the Sam saga and trying to tie up the loose ends with her son. They never did really explain how he could be so mentally off and then come back, get into trouble, get hurt and turn out okay. ER has pulled off some whopper story lines but this one is a bit too much. I do like the fact that they have her studying/training to be an anesthesiologist.

Let's hope they have created a good pull-together story for each of the characters coming back; I like the possibility of Carter either dying and being greeted by previous characters or getting Benton's kidney or maybe both!

Keep on speculating......

I totally agree this season has been back to what ER started as. :yay: I had to quite watching for several seasons because all I would do is sit and cry during the episodes. Not to say I havent had my fair share of tears this season. It has been great seeing the old characters back. I hope they dont kill Carter off. Benton donating a kidney now that sounds better. Cant wait for the next few weeks.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this board. I checked it out to find out what the news was on Dr. Carter, and decided to join up! I'm a huge fan of E.R., been watching faithfully since the beginning. Will sorely miss it when it goes away. I heard there was an article in the L.A. Times a awhile back that was suggesting "E.R." might make a move to ABC, focusing on the newer characters, with John Stamos as the main lead. I like that idea. Anyone else heard anything similar?

No, but that would be interesting............I love John Stamos

In the second episode of this season, Abby and Luka moved to Boston. They both got jobs there and had agreed they wanted a fresh start. This was their ending. On Thursday's ep, Carter and Sam spoke about them and John said he was glad to hear they were doing better.

I liked the looks on their faces...b/c Sam and Luka were an item, and Carter and Abby were too (or maybe just flirted? it's been so long)...they had wry expressions on their faces, like "well we have to talk about them, don't we?" :)

I have seen rumors that Maura Tierney might make another appearance, later in the season.

She's one of the people pictured on the "coming in next episodes" during the ad breaks on last Thursday's episode, so I imagine that's more than a rumor, yes?

Welcome aboard!

I think if John Stamos and his character got a show after ER .. a spin off... it would need to change from our beloved County ER.. maybe another Hospital, a rehab center or one of the suburban hospitals. It would be nice to have cameo appearances by ER regulars like Jerry, Archie, Sam, Frank.... etc. etc.
I like John Stamos a great deal. Good Ol' Blackie Parrish from GH!! He also had a show on ABC ...I can not think of the name. It was funny and he can do comedy well.

Full House (with the Olsen Twins as the baby) was his ABC Show!

I would love to see John Stamos continue on to something, I have always liked him, "have mercy" :rotfl: he is easy on the eyes as well :lovestruc

Man I hope they dont kill Carter off, I've been waiting for him to come back...I had it set up in my mind that he would come back and some how end up in charge of the ER and life at county would be good as its fades into the sunset......Well so much for that idea!:sad2:

I would like to see Abby and Luka again....ahhh Luka :woohoo: and of course Carol and Dr. Ross, as well as Susan.
I'm sure I missed someone, i'm just bummed it almost over, Thursday nights at 10pm will never be the same :sad1:

I didn't watch it.. but now I'm glad I didn't...

If the storyline is to kill off Carter I'm gonna be pissed. It continues the falsehood that if you have kidney failure you need a kidney or you will die suddenly. Not true! The first few months on dialysis are heck until the blood is cleaned well and electrolytes start to balance out.. people can and DO live on dialysis for years.

My husband.. 13 years and counting.. doing quite well thank you very much!

Don't forget though that Carter only has one kidney to begin with. The other one was removed after he was stabbed. Could that make it more life threatening? If he only has one kidney and it is diseased in some way?

Best wishes for your husband!

LOL... of course silly goose.. Full House. Uncle Jessie was fun!
I was thinking of John Stamos ABC show that only lasted one season but it really was sweet. It was called Jake in Progress. I think it was back in 2005

That's why he's on dialysis. If his remaining kidney was working, he wouldn't need it.

Nope, hubby had only one at birth. Well now he has two.. one of his own, one of mine that later rejected.

I was told by the transplant team that the difference of when a person would start dialysis in the case of kidney failure is just 3 months sooner if you have only one kidney. My thoughts.. 3 months in the highly unlikely event that I would develop failure was such a small amount of time compared to my husband's immediate needs.

Just a little education for those who know someone who wants/needs a kidney transplant.. it's not that bad of a surgery (laporatomy/ keyhole approach). No match necessary, it's better to match but you don't need a perfect match.. I'm tired of media continuing the falsehoods, it just makes it harder for those who want/need living donors. And for those who are on dialysis to explain to family and friends that a transplant is not a cure.. it's another treament option, the new forms of dialysis available can be better or just as good as transplant .. without the side effects of immunosuppressants.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I didn't know all that about kidney transplants/dialysis. And that is incredible that you gave your husband one of your kidneys. :hug:I can totally understand your frustration with the media. I thought a show like ER had medical experts, even doctors on staff. Why would they continue to perpetuate these falsehoods??? Do they really want ratings that badly?

Haven't watched in years either. Tuned in last week and was hooked again. Carter's story has always touched my heart. Why o why can't that boy get a happy ever after?

Refresh my memory.....why did Carter call Neela "grasshopper"....:confused3

Have a Magical Disney Day

It is a reference to Cain, from Kung Fu.

Can someone please answer a question for me from last night's show? I missed the part where Neela's dr. boyfriend (name??) confronts the foster father. Next I saw he was drunk, saying he had made a mistake. What happened? Thank you!

He was abused as a child, so he assumed that the foster parent was also abusing his children.
