EPCOT Tunnels are Flooding

1) Due to the hard rains over the past days, the tunnels are flooding.
2) There are places where concrete is being ripped-up.
. . . the biggest hole is at Electric Umbrella
. . . they have to dig down to find the leak in the concrete
. . . then, as we are told, rebuild the section
3) In some spots, the Epcot tunnel is closed.
4) Hopefully they get the leaks fixed soon.

NOTE: For a while, CM's thought they were building a E-Ticket water ride. :)

Huh....I didn't know Epcot had tunnels.

I am having such a hard time deciding if this is some sort of inside joke or a real issue. It doesn't seem funny enough to be a joke but the irony of the Electric Umbrella having the most trouble because of the rain is throwing me off! Either way, I hope Epcot is business as usual!

It's not a joke. The parks have service tunnels underneath. It's also how CM's get from place to place in costume without having to walk across the parks. There are wardrobe departments among other facilities down below. When the parks were built, dirt was brought in and built up on top of the swamp land. The tunnels were built in those mounds of dirt.

Just a very few tunnels in Future World.

NOTHING close to the scale of the Utilidors in Magic Kingdom.:)

I knew MK had tunnels, did not know the other parks did although it does make sense that they all would.

Well, I hope they get everything fixed and it's not too much trouble! That really stinks!

Epcot doesn't have the extensive tunnels that MK does, but it does have some and I don't think AK or DHS has them either.

Walt was so far ahead of his time. What a great concept...now if we could just get those jet packs we dreamed of as kids...

. . . under Future World
. . . like a big circle for CM's to get to the pavilions
. . . and stock delivery

. . . no joke

I guess it makes sense because you walk "uphill" from Spaceship Earth into the rest of Future World...

1. You want to waterproof the outside of the tunnel shell.
2. You want to install (or clean out) perforated pipes running lengthwise below tunnel floor level, either just outside or just under the edges of the tunnel. These pipes empty into sump pump chambers at intervals along the tunnel.
3. So long as the water table is above tunnel floor level, the perforated pipes will be collecting water and the sump pumps will be operating. The water is pumped into non-perforated storm sewer lines.
