I read these very interesting statistics and am wondering, why are they still calling it the Food & WINE festival???? Why not the Food & BEER Festival :lmao:

Walt Disney World's Food and Wine Festival begins its six-week run September 26, 2008, at Epcot. The 13th annual festival serves up authentic cuisine, wine, entertainment and cultures of more than 25 international regions. Exotic marketplaces from South Africa to Mexico offer exciting taste treats. The festival is the largest food and wine event of its kind in the world, beginning at the Festival Welcome Center in the Wonders of Life pavilion and fanning around the promenade encircling World Showcase Lagoon. Here are a few fun facts about this event:
-- More than 300 national and international wines and more than 76 kinds of international foods
-- More than 160 of America's most celebrated chefs and Walt Disney World chefs
-- 1,200 wine and beer seminars featuring more than 100 topics
-- More than 1,200 fireworks rockets exploding each night over World Showcase Lagoon in "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth" grand finale to the festival
-- 135 Eat to the Beat! concerts performed
-- 33,000 bottles of wine and champagne
-- 1.2 million hors d'oeuvre plates
-- 2.1 million Vanity Fair napkins
-- 750,000 beer cups
-- 600,000 forks
-- 338,000 wine glasses
-- 100,000 miniature desserts including creme brulee, traditional apple strudel, baklava and more

LOL, I don't think they can call it the Food and Beer festival until they get some worthy breweries participating, lol.

Bring on the micro-brews and belgians!

I wonder if we can get a to-go cup because we have no plans to eat there and quite frankly no interest in eating there either.
Depending on how busy they are, you can!! :cool1:

If they're not packed to the brim full, you can stop in and ask at the Le Cellier podium and they'll sell you a to-go cup. DH and I are huge La Fin du Monde fans so our waitress suggested the "to-go" option one year! :rotfl:

Why don't they call it the Walt Disney World Drunk-a-Thon, and serve up beer and spirits as well ? :) I would say on average , the beer selections around "The World" are better than the wine selections ... especially at Epcot and Animal Kingdom.

At the very least, though, they could include an Oktoberfest day to celebrate brewing.

the full festival brochure will not be released until the Festival actually opens. at that time someone around the boards who lives in FL usually is kind enough to scan it for the rest of us to look at.
Please, please-somebody from Florida be kind!!! Anxiously awaiting the end of September..

Back from WDW and can report that this is indeed on display. Epcot has now put up the two large blockades where the Australian walk-about and the special countries (this year cities) are normally located.

Otherwise, it is too early for the placement of the temporary food booths you often see about 2 weeks before.

For all of you DDE members STILL waiting for you "mailing" or for all of you who just want to see one I just found a web page with the scan of it!

Thanks for the link!!

True confessions time. Anytime I read about the Bocuse D'Or Grand Gala per person price of $450.00 I can't help but laugh when then next line is theme park admission is not required. It's a bargain!! :rotfl:

OK I love that statistic... stats never made much sense to me, but I love 'em!

I thought there was a keg tapping Oktoberfest thing in Germany during F&W?? (we never made it - but I remember reading about it!)

We 2nd the Micro brews!!

They used to include Oktoberfest complete with keg tapping, it's own little pavilion and everything. Miss that, and it really hasn't been gone but 2, maybe three years.

Loving this thread!! My DH and I will be going to F&W for the first time in October to celebrate my birthday! A dream come true!!

While I'm a FOODIE (yes in CAPS - FOODIE!) while my DH is... not (small case - not!).

I have got it into my head recently that I would like to celebrate my actual birthday by attending PFTS... which I know I will LOVE! But, how about DH? For those of you who have attended, will a non-foodie still be able to appreciate PFTS? I know that there is so much to choose from, but he is super super picky.

In other words, please convince me to not worry about DH and just buy those tickets already!!

btw: kabuki ~ i like your avatar!! ;)

Does anyone know what is sold out this year?

Used to be allearsnet did a great job telling you, but this year... either NOTHING is sold out or they aren't updating (and my vote is on the latter!)

I tried for 11/9 (last day) Sweet Sunday and it was sold out. I just reserved Taste of Louisiana this past Sunday for 11/7, but I didn't ask about any other events.

I love your avitar too!
Non-foodie huh? Does he drink? :rotfl:
Last year they had everything from Great Cheese to Ruben Spring Rolls to Duck Dumplings .. I am sure even if he's not a "FOODIE" he will have fun. It's an event just watching all of us eat .. in a scary I can't believe it way but it is an event! :thumbsup2

OK I can relate to him completely! I am very fussy. I don't eat fish, seafood, most meats (except chicken & steak) and some veg. The first year I went to PFTS I found that there was alot of stuff I liked. They do have a good selection of cheese (my fave thing in the entire world) and they had a nice mix of various foods. The second and last time I went however I was disappointed. I went on a night when mainly there was seafood and fish. I ended up just eating cheese all night which to be honest wasn't the nicest. There seemed to be a lot less desserts than the previous year too. I did enjoy trying the different wines but that was it.

We loves the Choco!! And yes, the DH DOES like his drinks. I will sell him on that... and maybe I can get him to hold the table while I wander around. I think it will be less overwhelming for him that way!! I am ThisCLOSE to picking up the phone and order the tickets...

Hmmmm... DH may not be happy with just cheese... but I had a talk with him last night and hashed it out with him. He's definitely more willing to go along with it since I am playing the "It's my BIRTHDAY!" card! ;)

On another note, dizneykid was kind enough to send me the link to those wine lanyards which I have gone ahead and ordered... so I really don't an excuse NOT to go...

Oh ya, maybe the $280+ price tag... :rotfl:
