***Epcot Food And Wine Festival Info 2008***

It's our first time doing F&W and haven't made too many ADRs for this trip because we intend on Epcot booth hopping. Is that a good strategy? Or would we exhaust all the booths within two or three visits?

How about this - we live in Orlando, go to the FWF 2-3 times a week, and in the four years we've gone, we've NEVER fully exhausted the booths.

We do repeat foods some, but we've never ordered all of the beverages. That's my goal this year.

Since we're skipping the first Saturday for the AdvClub, I think we're going to try to head down on the 25th as well and see if there are booklets. If there are and we get one, I'll try to get it scanned. No promises, since I still have to work the next day.

Thank you for even thinking about picking a booklet up and trying to get it scanned! No promises taken but the thought is much appreciated!

Oh no, believe me, it's for purely selfish reasons! The sooner the Festival gets started, the happier I am. ;)

I'm very excited about going! I think I'm driving the rest of my family nuts with my planning. :goodvibes

Hmmm... interesting. I just looked on the official F&W site and they've updated this info...

Epcot® is All Ears for Pears
Fresh USA Pears Take Center Stage at 13th Annual Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival at the Walt Disney World® Resort

Portland, OR- Pear growers from Oregon and Washington have forged a magical relationship with the nation's quintessential family vacation destination. "Where storybook fantasies come to life," the Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival is bringing to life the story of Pacific Northwest pears for visitors to the festival this fall.

From Sept. 26th – Nov. 9th, pears will be featured at the 13th annual Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival, which showcases cuisine from around the globe. Part of the festival will feature a fully interactive pear-themed country fair located in the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot®. The "Pearville Fair" will offer guests a chance to learn about USA Pears from Oregon and Washington, home to 84% of the U.S. fresh pear crop.

With pear growers from Oregon and Washington as guides, visitors to the Pearville Fair will learn first-hand about this key Pacific Northwest export. Featuring carnival-like games for the whole family, culinary demonstrations, and educational activities, the Pearville Fair offers a PEARfectly fun experience for everyone.

"The variety, flavor, diversity and nutritional importance of pears will be presented in a way that is designed to engage and enlighten guests of all ages," says Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO, Pear Bureau Northwest. "The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is world renowned, and the famous Disney Imagineers certainly pulled out all the stops when they created Pearville."

After whetting their appetites for sweet and juicy USA Pears, guests will have the opportunity to purchase fresh pears of their choice at a kiosk located within the Pearville Fair. Several varieties of USA Pears will be available for guests to choose from, and, with a medium-sized pear offering 6g of fiber (24% DV) and 7mg of Vitamin C (10% DV), they're not only tasty, they're also a healthy option for families.

I am betting they thought the foodies would be all over this - and didn't anticipate that they'd be put off by the price.

Did they allow you to order pears last year? I can't believe they are doing pearville again, lol.

Cool! We will be there for the Smithereens and I'd sooo much rather see them than Peabo Bryson.

I've been reading all these posts and thinking gee, I wish we were gonna be there for the Smithereens and then realized - WE ARE!! I never went and rechecked the linup. Peabo-Smithereens??? Well of course its the Smithereens!!

Yes, they had pears for sale but all the unique ones were gone by the time we made it to the exhibit. This year, we will try to get there.

I read a blurb that last year the Pearville exhibit sold more than 3 times the amount of pears Disney expected to sell. So hopefully the 'pear people' will be more prepared for the demand this year.

I do recall seeing pears for sale last year and I also remember thinking that $3 - $4 for a single pear was pretty outrageous. And I guess I'm a pear snob ... I prefer Anjou pears with mascarpone cheese. Yum! ;) :thumbsup2

Ain't nothin' (double negative baddie) wrong with that combo! And add a slightly peppery red Zinfandel and 'bliss' is in the making...

CYA footnote: I hope someone sells a Zinfandel at the festival this year. ;)

Hmmmm, your suggestion sounds acceptable to me ... I believe we will have to give that a try this weekend. :thumbsup2

I was surprised to see the pear fair again this year, but at least it allows for tipsy pictures in the cardboard cutouts again! One of my best memories from last year is playing around in that area while listening to Starship (and singing along, badly) and taking ridiculous pics. What can I say, we are easily amused! Good times! :thumbsup2

The pear fair was cute (I don't recall them having actual pears and I would have remembered $4 pears) but I did not expect it to return this year.

I wonder how much they'll charge for those carnival games.
