Encanto ride and Colombia in the world showcase

Being afraid of going to the theater is a poor excuse when spider man has made over 1.7 billion recently. And Covid cases were worse when spider man was released as well.
Nevertheless, it’s definitely quite popular now. Perhaps, they did a poor job of advertising it. But the music is fantastic & it’s everywhere now especially with young kids.

Encanto was also scheduled to be exclusively in theaters for 30 days before coming onto Disney+. Enough people (myself included) could’ve decided to wait to see it at home with their kids over the holiday break vs in a theater.

Also say that as one of those individuals that did go into a theater for Spider-man.

I would be for an Encanto ride. I don't mind IP it just depends what way it is utilised.

You are right there. I truly don’t understand how disney botched its theatre release. The music is good enough it should have done better. I am lukewarm on the actual movie though.

Arguments like these are exactly why Disney World needs a 5th gate already. Yes each park can still be expanded but it's starting to become like one of those old houses you see that have all these weird additions put on over the years until it just looks like a mess. I know we always argue about the theme of the 5th gate like the Villains or whatever but I think you just have a gate full of awesome IP rides you would feel hard pressed to shove into any parks and by doing so allow them to breathe and be something special instead of "lets fit Colombia between these two food stands" or "lets overlay Coco on Three Amigos". These IPs all deserve better. AND HOW ABOUT POCAHONTAS GETS SOME REPRESENTATION BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE! Sorry it's always driven me nuts that one of the classic originals responsible for the rebirth of Disney has been snubbed yet an acquisition they made in 2011 that was never associated with Disney gets a whole land (I'm looking at you Avatar).

I don't think you'll see any meaningful representation of Pocahontas in the parks going forward. The movie became very problematic for Disney and has been compared to Song of the South. Disney basing the movie on a real person but changing virtually everything about her to spin it positive led to plenty of criticism. It is also being discussed that the Pocahontas segment is being removed from Fantasmic, if so - there will be even less.

They thought it was going to be a huge hit and ordered mountains of merchandise. They couldn't give it away. There are still Disney employees that will refer to something like "Pocohontas effect" in referencing why Disney doesn't over order on things anymore. If you remember the HUGE demand for Frozen merchandise because they didn't order enough - blame Pocahontas.

But I agree it was visually beautiful with incredible music.

That is a small box office for a 150 million dollar budget. Frozen did 1.2 billion and Moana did 650 million for comparison. Frozen got a ride and Moana is getting a water feature. Based on relative numbers Encanto should get a souvenir stand.

It's borderline, but it's hardly a "bomb." The actual budger is between $120 and $150, but considering the pandemic's effect on box-office and the very quick realease to Disney+ it's understandbale. Even if box-office is somewhat muted, I don't think it can be argued that the movie is incredibly popular at this point. It's clearly a breakout hit,

I don't know that they botched it, they are EXTREMELY focused on driving Disney + Subs. I believe i saw that Turning Red, is only being released to Disney+, no theatres at all. When you think about it, it makes sense, Disney can build monthly subs, and cut out theaters from the action all together.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, would love to see Coco replace the Three Amigos. I mean, C'mon I know we all love nostalgia but, that ride is really in need of at least and update. Sometimes it's only the Two Amigos. 🤣
You know it was a different ride before the Three Amigos.

Yes, but it is WAY more profitable to have a full release in the theaters on a hit movie and than turning it over to Disney +. That is why Disney does not want to kill the golden goose that is a theater release.

I wouldn't exactly call a theatre release a "golden goose" anymore these days. Subs will provide them more money in the long term, they can also bounce movies back and forth between theatre releases, and exclusively on Disney+, to really capture as much as possible

Wow. Talk about reading waaay too much into something. I didn't say anything of the sort. Just FOR ME, with the limited space, I would like to see completely different LOOKING pavilions IF they were ever to add any and we had our preferences. Jesus.

But again, why do you assume that Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil all look exactly the same? Brazil and Colombia don't even have pyramids, so the pavilions would already look different from Mexico.

We all speak Spanish so obviously we're all the same :v oh wait, in Brasil they speak Portuguese.

I was in the same boat. There were lots of new movies coming out during the holiday season. So knowing after 30 days I could watch it at home without having to deal with any disruptive kids I made the decision to wait. This is coming form someone that has AMC A-List and could see it for no additional fee as well, so cost wasn't an issue. The convenience of the home experience won out for it though. That said I do kind of wish I went to see it in theatres, especially a Dolby theatre, to hear the music with the sound system there.

Sound quality is the one thing i can see that would still move people to going to the theatre, TV's picture quality is just as good now as a theatre. Once sounds is addressed, i think theaters really take a back seat. I could see them being like bowling alleys, (something to bring the kids to, and some enthusiasts, but definitely not what they used to be)

Well, you may still have your chance. It seems Encanto is so popular it is returning to theaters.

Screen size is a big reason too to me. No way I could get an IMAX experience at home. Honestly while I do love the theatre experience with the sound and large screens I think the biggest driving factor to go is a matter of not wanting to wait longer to see it. There were many movies we were excited for that we watched at home last year due to the HBO Max deal and the Encanto situation mentioned. But big movies/franchises we loved we would usually still go to the theatre opening weekend and do any rewatches at home on streaming.

Well, you may still have your chance. It seems Encanto is so popular it is returning to theaters.

I might have to go check it out then for the music. Didn't dislike the movie but personally found the plot pretty meh. Just had an amazing soundtrack though.
